Pssst, can I interest you in some free video games? (feddit.uk) angielski

Howdy pardners, this is a cheeky self-plug for !freegames, a community I’ve created to post limited-time full-game free giveaways. It’s been going a month or two and I’m already claiming games faster than I can play them, so come and join me and make your what-game-to-play choice paralysis worse!

Omegamanthethird,

If I already have a subscription, anything extra is, in practicality, free.

PlayStation’s first Remote Play dedicated device, PlayStation Portal remote player, to launch later this year at $199.99 (blog.playstation.com) angielski

PlayStation Portal remote player brings the PS5 experience to the palm of your hand. It includes the key features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback*. The vibrant 8-inch LCD screen is capable of 1080p resolution at 60fps, providing a high definition visual experience that’s...

Omegamanthethird,

I’m a dad. This is pretty much perfect for when my kids are watching TV. But $200 is a bit steep.

Omegamanthethird,

2 of my favorites of all time. Final Fantasy VIII and Morrowind.

Final Fantasy VIII, to my knowledge, never once tells you that enemy levels scale. This wouldn’t be a problem if you never grinded fights (for exp, AP, items, etc). I think the intention was that you would never need to grind so you never would (the game is actually super easy). But people do grind, and you can level up very quickly if you want to.

Morrowind just drops you into the world, for better or worse. There are some prompts to familiarize you to menus. But that’s it. Most of the basic functions are self explainable. Except fatigue. Fatigue affects everything you do. And you won’t realize that it’s the reason whatever you’re trying to do isn’t working. Most players get frustrated and quit because they can’t hit anything with their weapon, not realizing it’s because their stamina bar is drained.

Omegamanthethird,

Because even a fraction of their original viewership is still really good ratings. And they know a good chunk will watch every bit of new stuff that comes out.

What I can’t figure out is how there’s an audience for Walking Dead games outside of the Telltale series. It seems like the people still watching are middle aged women who got hooked by Daryl and drama. Most of the gamer types I know who used to watch it, fell off during the Negan season. Plus every new game has had horrible reception.

Omegamanthethird,

I’m confused then. I played through Pacifist and thought I got the true ending. Though I am aware of a different ending if you play a Genocide run beforehand.

I’ve never heard of a neutral run in particular adding anything on subsequent runs.

Omegamanthethird,

To anyone who hasn’t played it. You might love it, or it might not click with you. And that’s fine either way.

Omegamanthethird, (edited )

So, I have only played through the entire game once and it was a Pacifist run. I did the full extended run, reloading my last save and everything.

I started a Neutral run later, but I haven’t even completed it yet.

Edit: I just googled it. You have to view the neutral ending once, which you get at the end of the Pacifist run before reloading. You do not need to do a full Neutral run.

Omegamanthethird,

What do people even do with 64GB? There’s a lot of games that wouldn’t even fit on that by themselves.

Omegamanthethird,

Still Final Fantasy XVI (PS5) and Final Fantasy XII (Switch). Loving both still.

Backwards compatibility is the best feature of Xbox, and I don't understand why Sony is so far behind on this

When I got the XSX recently, it was so I can play Starfield when it comes out. That was basically the only reason. I did not realize the extensive backwards compatibility that this thing has. But since getting it, I’ve been playing FF13 trilogy, Fable games, Dragon Age series, Lost Odyssey, etc. Basically all games of note...

Omegamanthethird,

You’re absolutely right. However I will add to your initial point. If I could have paid an extra $100 - $150 (for the hardware) in order to have PS1-PS3 games play on my PS5, I would have just so I could have it as an option. Bonus points if the entire PS3 digital library (especially the PS1 classics) were still available.

Omegamanthethird,

I loved the first Soda Dungeon. But I couldn’t get into the second one in the same way. I think the progression was slower. I think maybe they thought the first was too easy.

Most emotional moments in games? (SPOILERS)

Just for the heads up, this thread will probably have a lot of spoilers. I’m gonna try to go vague on spoilers for anybody that hasn’t played Hotline Miami 2. If you’ve played the game, you’ll probably know what I mean, but I’m going to say some purposefully esoteric shit to keep it out of full spoiler territory....

Omegamanthethird,

The beginning of The Last of Us.

The end of Final Fantasy X.

The entirety of disc 3 of Final Fantasy VIII.

Omegamanthethird,

Final Fantasy games. I’ve replayed FFV and VIII, restarted X and XII, and started XVI within the last year.

Omegamanthethird,

One of my two favorite games of all time. I wish I could unlearn how to play. Some of my best memories are scavenging for anything remotely valuable and finding myself somewhere I shouldn’t be at that level.

Xbox's biggest crisis right now isn't games. It's hardware. (Opinion - Jez Corden) (www.windowscentral.com) angielski

"Today, PlayStation revealed that its PS5 has sold 40 million units. Microsoft doesn’t share hardware numbers typically, but court documents, math, and slides from an ID@Xbox in Brazil seem to suggest the Xbox Series X|S line-up is around 20-23 million units sold globally. That essentially puts the PS5 at a 2:1 advantage...

Omegamanthethird,

I have a PS5, but wanted to get the Series before Halo Infinite came out. But since it was on Xbox One as well, I justified the purchase because Fable would eventually be out as an exclusive.

I definitely would have waited if I knew Infinite was going to be shit.

Omegamanthethird,

Finding alternate ways of playing a game, whether by doing a self-imposed challenge, or just playing a game differently than it was intended, are a good way of spicing up games you’ve played hundreds of times.

Or in some cases, playing the game how it’s meant to be played. Like in a lot of RPGs, you’re not really supposed to grind.

I played Final Fantasy VIII without grinding cards, draws, items, or anything until end game content. It was relieving to not have to worry about any of it.

Omegamanthethird,

Not “made for”. But I fully recommend No Man’s Sky. Flying around in VR is quite the experience. It genuinely feels like it was made for VR.

Omegamanthethird, (edited )

Rogue Legacy was going to be my suggestion. Such an easy (as in no stories/puzzles to keep track of) game to pick up and play. It’s something that was lost a bit on the second game. But it looks like you’ve played it.

Dungeon Encounters is a pure turn-based RPG with almost no story.

Theatrhythm is a fun music game.

Sound Shapes is a platformer.

Immortal Redneck is a FPS rogue-like.

That’s just what’s in my games list that might be what you’re looking for.

What are your favorite video games that force you to pull out the pen and paper? angielski

Ever since the language puzzle in Tunic that got me to fill up 6 pocket sized pages of notes over multiple days while trying to puzzle it out as I tried to and, eventually, succeeded at translating the in-game “paper” manual, I’ve had a craving for games that force you to pull out a notebook and take notes/puzzle things...

Omegamanthethird,

I did that at one point too. There was a newspaper that I used to get that had a game that did the same thing. But I can’t seem to find it now.

Omegamanthethird,

Only 2 games that really made me break out pen and paper.

Myst 3 and Final Fantasy XII (The Great Crystal).

Omegamanthethird,

I just got my notes out a month ago because someone was sharing their FFXII collection. It has so many switch names, one-way markings, and strike-throughs where I messed up and realized I went in a big circle. I’m so glad I didn’t use a guide for that.

Omegamanthethird,

I’m liking XVI. But IMO, XII should have been the future direction of the series. The next evolution of the ATB system instead of a one-off.

Choose Four Consoles to Have the Largest Selection of Games angielski

So I’m reassessing my entertainment center since seeing the Video Game History Foundation’s report. Since the study it’s got me thinking, if you could pick any 4 consoles to have hooked up to your TV (4 becuase I’ve got 4 inputs to my TV) which would you pick and why? I will accept modded consoles as answers too.

Omegamanthethird,

Missing some PS3 games. But that’s about it. And even then, they’re bringing a lot of those over to PS Plus Premium.

Omegamanthethird,

Start with XVI. There’s a lot of buzz/conversation around it. I find that it’s such a great collective experience for movies and games when everyone is talking about it.

Then check out a game that interests you. All of the numbered games will be all inclusive. X and XII are my top suggestions, and very different from one another.

Some of the others are mildly related like Stranger of Paradise.

Omegamanthethird,

Still playing Final Fantasy XVI. The story and characters are fantastic. Now that I’ve put some time into it, the combat feels pretty great. Excited to see where it goes. I feel like I’m still in the first quarter of the game.

Omegamanthethird,

Shout out to Morrowind. That opening menu BOOM, BOOM-BOOM gives me chills.

Also Final Fantasy VIII, X, XII are some of my favorites of the series. But the franchise really has a lot of top-tier music.
