FluffyPotato,

I have exactly the same issues with Sims 3. My PC is pretty much as powerful as it’s gonna get but Sims 3 with all the performance tweaks and mods just won’t run properly, it’s downright unplayable. Too bad it’s my favourite Sims.

Does anyone actually buy the Sims games? Like the full game costs a fortune, just sail the high seas, EA shouldn’t get a cent.

FluffyPotato,

Fair enough, that’s a sense you build up over time with some plunder, or at least it was for me.

If you wanna try Sims 4 I’m using Sims 4 updater by anadius, that gets everything you need and keeps everything up to date (while having less of a footprint than Origin).

FluffyPotato,

I tried playing Sims 3 again recently and holy hell is the performance bad. Like the FPS is running at whatever I cap it at but there are constant freezes and stuttering with no FPS drops even with all the recommended performance mods. I then remembered I stopped playing for that very reason ages ago and now my desktop is like 100x more powerful.

FluffyPotato,

Is Sony saying piracy is justified by making it not possible to buy this game? I guess if I have to.

FluffyPotato,

If your only option to play a game is moving to a different country then I’d say it’s the most justifiable. If you only have a PlayStation piracy won’t really help you play PC or XBox games though so I don’t see how that would help.

FluffyPotato,

I’m sorry you misunderstood what I said. I was saying that Sony is encouraging piracy by making it impossible to play their games legaly in some regions, including mine.

Personally I don’t think piracy is wrong with the exception of indie devs. If you think you are fighting corporations by pirating then yea, that’s dumb but I haven’t heard that stance yet.

FluffyPotato,

It actually does, it’s something people get their accounts banned over.

FluffyPotato,

I still remember when the Java edition was supposed to get a modding API…

Elden Ring is getting a free-to-play mobile version with in-app purchases (www.rockpapershotgun.com)

Action-RPG colossus Elden Ring is reportedly getting a free-to-play mobile adaptation with in-app purchases, which takes inspiration from miHoYo’s Genshin Impact. It’s being published by Tencent, who apparently acquired the licensing rights to Elden Ring back in 2022 and put a few dozen people to work on a prototype, even as...

FluffyPotato,

My first instinct was to check if this was an Onion article…

I definitely didn’t have Elden Ring gets a gotcha game on mobile on my 2024 bingo card.

FluffyPotato,

Elden Ring doesn’t use a server, it’s peer to peer.

FluffyPotato,

Matchmaking is also peer to peer as far as anyone knows but I can’t find any info on how messages are handled. It’s entirely possible those also work on their peer to peer system but even if not a server that serves short text snippets with coordinates to all these players could be run on 20 year old hardware so not even costly enough to register.

FluffyPotato,

Oh, yea, they have a verification server for shadowbans but it isn’t strictly necessary for matchmaking, if that verification process were removed you can still play. The seemless coop mod for example does that.

FluffyPotato,

Oh yea Empress may be the most transphobic person alive currently

FluffyPotato,

I’m pretty sure that if she had the power to do so she would have deathsquads going after anyone remotely suspected of being trans. I was in her telegram group just to watch the crazy unfold and she is absolutely batshit and hates trans people with a burning passion.

God of War Creator Is Unhappy With New Games and Kratos' Story (comicbook.com) angielski

Despite being nominated for numerous awards and even winning Game of the Year in 2018, the creator of God of War, David Jaffe, is not a huge fan of the new direction the series has gone in. Jaffe himself hasn't worked on these new God of War games, but thinks that they're not staying true to the spirit of the character and the...

FluffyPotato,

Did they finally release modding tools? Bethesda games without mods are such a slog and Starfield was worse than any previous one.

FluffyPotato,

Studios being bought up like this usually means stuff from them will degrade in quality fast. The last thing from Blizzard I liked was Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 2 so for me no big loss. I’m more upset about Obsidian and InXile.

FluffyPotato,

I don’t even care about exclusive. Obsidian, CDProject, InXile and Larian are like the only studios left that make really good RPGs and whenever a studio gets bought out their quality absolutely plummets, I can’t think of a single exception to that. I do like Larian’s and CDProject’s stuff but Obsidian RPGs have been my favourites and it just feels like I won’t get another amazing Obsidian RPG. Like I already saw Bioware, Bethesda, Troika and Black Isle either disappear or have their quality go to absolute shit.

Also FYI Wasteland is like a super old franchise.

FluffyPotato,

I can’t think of a single exception to a big company buying up a game studio and that studio’s quality absolutely plummeting. EA has been buying up good studios and gutting them for decades, I doubt Microsoft is any better, they already have a history of doing that to different software.

FluffyPotato,

Like 5 developers of Black Isle founded Obsidian but as far as I know Troika just disappeared along with it’s developers. I can’t find anything about Bioware and CD Project or Larian collaborating though.

FluffyPotato,

Hasn’t modern Mortal Kombat been absolutely crap? And Rockstar games have felt worse ever since GTA 4 and they are currently just focused on milking online content.

Relic I only know for Impossible Creatures and Naughty Dog isn’t ringing any bells for me so can’t say anything about that.

FluffyPotato,

I havent owned a console so that explains why I don’t recognise Naughty Dog. I vaguely recognise Uncharted and the last of us but I know nothing of the games themselves.

I haven’t played either of the RDR games or any Company of Heroes games and the last Warhammer I played was Soulstorm so I can’t comment on those.

I have played quite a few fighting games and the genre is definitely quite stale when it comes to single player. The only ones I can think of where I enjoyed the single player was the new Smash and Skullgirls. Mortal Kombat hasn’t had a new idea in like decades, they seem to be content with milking the franchise without doing anything new.

I don’t think commercial success is a good indicator of what makes a good game though, like all the Call of Duty games released every year are not good but they are successful. Not to mention the sport games that rake in obscene amounts of money while nothing much changes between releases. Or mobile games…

FluffyPotato,

Don’t all the sports games and Call of Duties also review and sell well? I don’t think many would call them good games.

Yea, I don’t follow any gaming media or forum. I pretty much get new things to play from either Steam’s recommended list or Humble Bundle.

I haven’t played the last Mortal Kombat, that’s true. All previous ones, which I did play, including the 2 Injustice games, felt too samey for me to bother with another one.

FluffyPotato,

I’m more worried about it being a traffic simulator more than a city builder like the first one without any expansions. I would like to design a city I want to live in. It’s good to be honest about performance at least.

FluffyPotato,

Nope, I don’t follow any gaming media other than what I see when browsing all in Lemmy. I just noticed a new Cities Skylines game under Steam’s top seller list so I only know what I saw from the previous game. My main hope is I can make walkable cities.

FluffyPotato,

I finished Baldur’s Gate 3, finished Starfield, finished Expeditions: Viking and I’m currently playing Expeditions: Rome.

FluffyPotato,

Yea, basically what happened was some crooked businessman took over their company by some very fucked up methods, ousted the people who made the game and stole their IP. This is the most justified case of piracy is good.

FluffyPotato,

Steam prices are already the same. Steam games aren’t cheaper in Estonia at least.

FluffyPotato,

I get like 99% of my news about upcoming or newly released games from steam. There have been so many games I’m not even aware exist, like last week I found out Saints Row got a new game a while back but it was epic exclusive so I never knew.

Also being a Linux gamer steam has amazing support for Linux while epic has none.

FluffyPotato,

Isn’t that illegal in quite a few European countries? I vaguely remember something about 3th party software requirements needing to be disclosed some amount of time before release.
