Is Star Citizen's new server meshing tech plagiarized? angielski

Sorry if this is not the right place to ask, but am I the only one who thinks that Star Citizen’s new server meshing technology is an old hat? I believe it’s the same technology that a few highly scalable Minecraft servers have been using for years. WorldQL introduced this back in 2021, but I think the idea was around even...

DmMacniel,

Server meshing isn’t new at all. But how CIG is doing it, is. The dynamic nature of it is what makes it revolutionary. Servers can be spooled up and retired as needed. A certain area of the universe is under heavy load as there are thousands of players having a small fleet engagement? Add more servers to handle the load. There are some planets and even star systems that are not visited by players? Retire them and just let Quantum (CIGs universe simulation) run the simulation for those star systems.

DmMacniel,

Perhaps yeah, and it sounds like that. But the scale is not really comparable. Or can WorldQL still simulate whatever is going on in unloaded chunks?

DmMacniel,

As always, yeah :)

Space sim Squadron 42 is "feature-complete" and gunning for Starfield's lunch with massive new video (www.rockpapershotgun.com) angielski

Squadron 42 is the single player campaign of Star Citizen, that is supposed to launch as a separate game. It's basically a small portion of Star Citizen, but with a story and ending. I'm still not confident; waited too long for that.

DmMacniel,

It looks so good. And the demo is so awesome. I can’t believe it’s fricking GZDoom!

DmMacniel,

An early access that already had a demo and extensive Dev Logs/Videos. This Game won´t be abandoned.

DmMacniel,

[…] Under the tentative new plan, Unity will limit fees to 4% of a game’s revenue for customers making over $1 million and said that installations counted toward reaching the threshold won’t be retroactive,

really? Thats nearly the same appeasement Wizards of the Hasbro offered after that huge debacle earlier this year.

FUCK THEM!

DmMacniel,

me as well… well some months before that debacle but…

DmMacniel,

If those are the most fatal flaws… well I guess it’s pretty much perfect then?

Starfield Is Seemingly Missing Entire Stars (the local 'sun') When Running On AMD Radeon GPUs (wccftech.com) angielski

So a user on Reddit (ed: u/Yoraxx ) posted on the Starfield subreddit that there was a problem in Starfield when running the game on an AMD Radeon GPU. The issue is very simple, the game just won't render a star in any solar system when you are at the dayside of a moon or even any planetary object. The issue only occurs on AMD...

DmMacniel,

Waaaaait… it was a bug and not gross incompetence?

DmMacniel,

It’s just a general software development joke. Eventually your customers will rely on that bug, because thats how it works right? So you can´t fix it later as it would break workflows thus that bug becomes a feature.

DmMacniel,

Who the Eff would expect planets to be like Disney World!?

“We could have made a game where there are four cities and four planets,”

Three planets and one gas giant (for now), Todd. And those probably have more diversity or non-boredness than your thousand planets.

DmMacniel,

Could be, could not have been. But four planets and four cities was in my opinion quite specific.

DmMacniel,

So it is really happening now, huh? I hope that I can play my Toreador again! We shall have fun :)

DmMacniel,

Such a great article full of absolutely nothing.

DmMacniel,

Isn’t there a quest in Black Rock Mountain where you actually had to die? Also does this makes resurrection/reincarnation again worthless?

DmMacniel,

Who will replace him at being 4 parallel universes ahead of us?

DmMacniel,

wow, 18 years of service. That’s quite impressive.

Time to download everything for perservation reasons.

DmMacniel,

Also Radiant Quests were already part of Oblivion as well, which they had to dumb down for whatever reason.

DmMacniel,

Given that its the same engine over and over and over again; I don’t think they put that much work into making it extensible anymore. “It just works.”

DmMacniel,

Sure but I wouldn’t call

making their games as extensible as possible

hard work since it has always been like that.

DmMacniel,

Bethesda would need to completely rework their tooling and engine to block out this core philosophy.

DmMacniel,

We shall see with CreationEngine 2 if they would removed that facette. But I doubt it since its the essential core of that engine to be extensible.

DmMacniel,

I only remember that it could render it rather difficult. but not that difficult. thanks for clarifying :)

DmMacniel,

Palapeli. It’s such a great jigsaw puzzle game.

DmMacniel,

And thats where it fricking belongs.

DmMacniel,

it belongs there because its simply Overwatch 1 without all the features promissed for Overwatch 2. 80 gigabytes from /dev/random has more worth that this “game” and its cheaper!

DmMacniel,

We should all agree with these gamer tantrums?

no, why should we? But should gobble up the lies and the shit corpos give to use? No, absolutely not.

Larian's unfair advantage (credistick.com) angielski

This post was inspired by two things I saw recently: The connection between these two items is not obvious, but it is interesting. The lemon problem WeFunder, for the uninitiated, is a crowdfunding platform for (primarily) technology companies. It allows community-oriented startups to sell a small % of ownership to their users...

DmMacniel,

Great article. Make your community your unfair advantage. But why call it unfair? Unfair to whom? To those who try to nickel and dime their players with MTX and the same shit every year? Nah i don’t think that’s unfair. Unfair only perhaps to indie developers, but then again everyone starts somewhere and they could imagine that when they are doing quality work that a community will flock around them.

DmMacniel,

Then I’m absolutely fine with it being unfair :)

Player stats for the first weekend of Baldur's Gate 3 (store.steampowered.com) angielski

We’ve cooked up some statistics highlighting data from the opening weekend following launch and prepared a handy infographic outlining player choices, actions, deaths, and the like. Some inspiration as we head into our second weekend, if you will.

DmMacniel,

Well the class selection ain’t surprising.

The cleric is someone everyone wants in the party but nobody wants to be.

[…]

But then again they are so versatile you can have a party entirely Made up with clerics and call them the A-Men who can bully Tiamat for her lunch money who would rather built a toilet to give herself swirlies. And now you know how to play cleric, you’re welcome! (Dainty music)

DmMacniel,

Thank you :)

DmMacniel,

Look how happy they are in that thread. How they cheer for Rockstar’s embrace…

We all know how it will inevitable end.

And I hate how cynical we’ve become :(

DmMacniel,

I have those strange black boxes as well (vulkan, nobara linux and amd) but when I tried DX11 today it doesnt show them anymore.

DmMacniel,

Baldurs Gate 3 on my linux machine runs pretty good and smooth. Already died because I failed a persuasion/deception check which led to a party wipe. It wasnt uncalled for either and didn’t came out of the blue. I really enjoy it.

DmMacniel,

Shoving gobbos from a cliff to kill them by falling damage. Soo good!

Bards are Baldur's Gate 3's best class and I can't imagine playing it as anything else (www.pcgamer.com)

I was planning on paying a rogue, paladin, or warlock (based on my tabletop characters), but this article nearly has me convinced. I am waiting for the PS5 release, so any agreement or dissension from my PC friends? Other class recommendations?...

DmMacniel,

My tiefling light cleric would like to know your address…

Spoilerto talk about lathander of course :)

Spoilerand to throw a fireball in your face!

DmMacniel,

Bask in the beautiful light that is Lathanders brilliance!

What games have you played in the last 365 days that stand out to you as the most memorable experiences?

I think the most common answer is going to be Tears of the Kingdom, and that is one for me that stands out for sure, but I will try to add some more unique inputs as well. Many are games that came out longer than a year ago, but i didnt get around to playing until more recently....

DmMacniel,

Played Hardspace Shipbreaker. Damn it’s good to do some industrial action :)

What are some game genres / styles you like that aren't being made anymore, or are being mde but not very often? angielski

For me it’s first person puzzle games. I can think of maybe a dozen off the top of my head that came out in the last decade. I especially enjoy when they’re open world. The ability to just quit a puzzle that’s stumped you and go try something else for a little bit is incredibly refreshing.

DmMacniel,

Have you checked out Pathfinder Kingmaker and Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous? Those are relatively new.

DmMacniel,

Rhythm Games like Guitar Hero, Band Hero and DJ Hero. Those were fun.
