Good list. Too many specs forget about these basic information. But what about the “NETWORK: High-speed Internet connection”? I assume a connection is required while playing, because of some anti cheat or DRM? And why is High-speed connection required to play the game? Is no offline play possible?

thingsiplay,

Is this proven? I’m not using Windows, so just asking out of curiosity.

thingsiplay,

The linked page isn’t actually proving your statement being true. It just explains in theory. Which was my point, if there are benchmarks that prove this undeniably being true. Especially in context to gaming. If a game is not fully utilizing multithreading technology, then it wouldn’t much benefit from the better ThreadDirector. Maybe this game doesn’t benefit from it much.

thingsiplay,

E3 was expensive too, with way less people seeing it live. These mega companies have enough money to pay that. It’s just a big advertising platform. Only indie devs cannot pay this, unless they are hugely successful.

thingsiplay,

It’s not the first time where a click game got viral. But it’s probably the first time having this much success. What can I say, if people find it enjoyable, go for it. But what I don’t understand is, how people cheat with even such a click game, by using bots. It’s so funny.

edit:

Despite this seemingly benign gameplay

Calling this a game or gameplay is funny in itself. People are “playing” the dumbest things if they get bored.

thingsiplay,

Apparently not enough, because Sony focuses on PC more than ever.

thingsiplay,

consoles are more popular than PC by quite a big margin.

How do you measure this? Steam alone has 130 to 150 million active users, more than Switch customers at a whole. And that does not even include some of the most popular PC games at all. I also expect PC user base to grow, it has more potential than consoles.

So yes, its a big deal for companies like Sony to open up this big to PC and to be that successful. They don’t even need to sell a console to sell games. Off course consoles will remain popular and for good reason. But most popular games are mulitsystem games and not specific to consoles anyway. In my opinion it is remarkable how much Sony focuses on PC now. I hope they keep doing it; its only beneficial for the players, the publishers and for Sony.

thingsiplay,

I mostly take issue with the smug tone of the article acting like it’s over for consoles just because they didn’t meet expectations and decided to bring some games to pc. Consoles are still extremely popular and far more powerful than the average pc according to steam hardware survey. They will still be around and successful no doubt about it.

I agree with you here. These articles are stupid telling people it would be over for consoles. It’s just clickbait or they are uninformed. Maybe besides your point that the “average pc” is that weak as you say. Most are at a level of PS4 or stronger. But that is not all you need to compare if you want to an analysis. This topic is extremely complicated. You can’t just take the average. There are far more PC users than console players. Its like taking the Game Boy into account and saying that the average game consoles is weak. That’s not the full story.

In example most monthly active users on consoles play games that could be played on a potato PC or last gen consoles too and these people probably do not buy newest games. Similar to the situation on PC.

thingsiplay,

Compared to other companies, Valve let the community use alternative community servers. Even if Valve does not care about the game anymore (sigh, one of may all time favorites), it’s possible to maintain community servers. This is something any other game wish to had, without hacking the system; it’s just part of the game. And people can even use modded communities and there exist some really cool stuff (admittedly I never tried them, I would play the game if it didn’t have the bot problem).

But please stop review bombing other games with the cry to fix TF2. Those reviewers should get a review ban for misusing the review system.

thingsiplay,

Is there a simple way to download the save files before they get wiped? I mean without downloading the game and sorting out where the saves are and such. Steam has a dedicated page for that: store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage (there is no download all link, but at least it’s straight forward)

thingsiplay,

Okay?

thingsiplay,

It was not just 6 months later. Original GTA v was released on old gen consoles, 1 entire year later on new gen consoles, then again 1.5 years later (meaning 2.5 years later from original release) it got out for PC. But I expect it will come to PC much faster this time, as every day not releasing it is not earned money. They won’t wait until next generation. GTAv was release quite at the end of the last gen back then, this time around 6 will come out in the middle of the generation. Also the current consoles are closer to PC in hardware and software than before, so a port is easier than with v.

I hope they take their time to upgrade and optimize the PC version. This is a massive game that needs its time. Especially because PC player have higher standards than console players and a more variety in hardware that needs to be tested and ironed out as much as possible. Obviously I’m a user like you and don’t know how much truth to all of this is, but sounds plausible in my opinion.

thingsiplay,

The console war between Atari and Intellivison ended long time ago, not by the recent acquisition.

thingsiplay,

Valve is way more valuable than Activision-Blizzard-King.

thingsiplay,

Microsoft wanted to buy Nintendo and Valve before. It was in the leaked documents. And I’m sure Microsoft makes suggestions all the time, we just don’t hear about it usually. We mostly hear about deals that happen.

Besides that, I can’t imagine that a competitor could buy a competitor. That would be illegal in most cuntries. Unlike Activision, which was not a competitor to Microsoft.

thingsiplay,

according to unverifiable rumours. … The leak comes from an unknown and unreliable source in the gaming industry.

But continues to write an entire article about it. I wouldn’t be shocked if the rumor was set by the person who writes the article itself. Edit: Which itself is only a few paragraphs, but filled with ads, links and images on the entire page.

thingsiplay,

I was about to recommend the same. Dark Souls is hard to get into, but it will train you to play a Souls like game like a Souls like game. However Elden Ring might be a good intro into the genre too, and is a bit more modern and accessible too.

Its a classic conflict of interests. But I believe he is a sportsman guy and truly was happy for the kid. Kinda felt bad though, but this is how things goes. Either way, congratz to both.

Most people don’t need the newest and expensive tech. From the last 30 days of active games on Playstation brand, here a split PS3/PS4/PS5 (I just show a ratio that is set in relation to the numbers of players for the game), meaning left side is older console:

ps-timetracker.com/statistic/last-30-days

  • - / 42 / 14 Fortnite (3 times)
  • - / 3 / 2 Roblox (1.5 times)
  • 0 / 33 / 9 Minecraft** (3.7 times)
  • - / 14 / 9 Cod:MW2 (1.6 times)
  • - / 38 / 12 GTA V (3.2 times)
  • - / 23 / 8 Rainbow Siege (2.9 times)
  • - / 26 / 8 Apex Legends (3.3 times)
  • - / 17 / 7 Overwatch 2 (2.4 times)
  • - / 1 / 1 EA Sports FC 24 (1 time)

Edit: I have added simple math result in how many times the PS4 player base is big as the PS5 player base. Just out of curiosity and to provide a quicker way of scanning through the list.

(**ps3 players almost at 0 level for this game)

As you can see, all games are available for PS4 and they run decent enough, are multiplayer games and the new consoles do not offer anything substantial for these kind of players.

thingsiplay,

All the greatest recent games run super well on the Steam Deck

I get what you are telling here, but it’s not 100% accurate, generally speaking. It might be true for you personally. I own a first gen Steam Deck myself and its just a complementary hardware to my PC (and wonderful at that). It does not run all greatest games at all or in some cases limited and problematic. So “super well” is a little bit exaggerated, but that does not take away how fantastic the device is.

thingsiplay,

I own an Xbox Series (got it for free, you can’t argue with that), but still will wait for the PC port. I don’t think it will take 3 years before it comes to PC, especially not in todays landscape with a strong PC in Gaming overall. They surely are already working in a way to enable such a port. So 1 year from console release date seems to be realistic.

… who am I kidding to?

The History of Tetris World Records [by Summoning Salt] ~ a 2 hour documentary (youtu.be) angielski

I just watched an excellent 2 hour (just needed to edit title, as I noticed it was 2 hours and not 1, wow time really flew away!) long documentary. The build up in stages and showing the evolution of the best players achievements, is intense and very well edited, narrated and written documentary!...

thingsiplay,

You can watch them piece by piece (meaning if its broken up by chapters like this), if its too long. I personally don’t do that, but can absolutely understand it. Nowadays I also watch most videos at higher speed. Some talk really slow, I mean slow that I watch it at x1.4 speed and it sounds like someone else is talking at x1.0 speed. But this video, I didn’t have a problem with the narration itself.

BTW I recommend Looking for an addon or like that if you watch on a browser. I have a more fine control over the speed values, as x1.25 sometimes is too fast. In example I often watch at x1.1 by default or sometimes at x1.2… and in really bad cases even faster.

thingsiplay,

Steam doesn’t have a version pinning. Automatic updates are forced.

thingsiplay,

“It’s okay” or “not the worst” or “not bad like xxx game” (where xxx is a bad game to compare to) are technically also not negative.

thingsiplay,

At this point, I’m convinced that Microsoft is just trolling everybody and have a blast in the office.

The hunt for the next controversy goes on.

thingsiplay,

But it was not required, so the information was clearly wrong.

thingsiplay,

My observation since the very first Dead or Alive from the 90s: People having problems with bouncing boobs in games are more nasty than those who actually enjoy them.

thingsiplay,

It was rather obviously meant as a joke, so I’m confused about what people were mad at.

Welcome to social media in 2024.

thingsiplay,

What do you mean its not polished? Any example to what you mean by that?

thingsiplay,

I don’t think the person is here to discuss, otherwise would respond to any of the replies and questions. It’s just a post out of frustration. I feel like wasting my time again.

thingsiplay,

I started emulating Switch this year and played Breath of the Wild for the first time on Yuzu through with 130 hours. And I’m proud of it.

thingsiplay,

I don’t agree that Fan the Deck became too much clickbait. I know Deck Ready too and its incredibly bad with his clickbait. Stopped watching Deck Ready. But regardless of the title in this video from Fan the Deck, I had same expectations as you, if you watch the content then the title makes sense and is not clickbait. I agree on every point and the recap he did in the beginning too.

Regardless what you think, if I am paid to write this or not, I mean it when I say this video title is not misleading clickbait.

thingsiplay,

The video content isn’t talking about the current market or the past, but how Steam Deck is the biggest threat to Xbox in the future. Xbox has a lot of potential. The leadership changed (which is addressed in this video too). When Microsoft was at its worse, Steve Ballmer was the boss of Microsoft and Don Mattrick was ruining Xbox in the ground with XBox One. Now we have Satya Nadella and have Spencer, who did bring back the Xbox brand and seem to understand their stuff better.

thingsiplay,

Always good to have good recommendations. I subscribed to her channel and will watch a few videos before coming to any conclusion.

thingsiplay,

I like when he talks about the Steam Deck, but he talked too much about other handhelds and accessories. Plus most of his talks are about (software) modding the Deck, which I am not doing much. That’s why I unsubscribed, but not because it is bad, I’m just not the target. Seems like he stopped posting because I unsubscribed… :D But I recommend anyone reading these replies to look at his YouTube channel and watch some older videos. They are quite interesting and go in depth in some of them:

thingsiplay,

I actually didn’t encounter anyone saying Dark Souls and like games being an ARPG. Dark Souls like games are usually called Souls like. The problem is, that the term RPG and Action are not a distinct genres. This is a long standing issue in gaming, long before 2000s even. When I was a teenager, some people called Zelda an RPG, others said Action RPG, some people (me included) said its an Action Adventure. Genres and terms that are vague and broad will always clash with others. Don’t let me begin what Secret of Mana (SNES) actually is.

Look at Racing games. There are Mario Kart and Gran Turismo, two very different kind of racing games and both still are. What about motorcycle racing or classic racing games like Rock’n Roll Racing (someone remember? this is what Blizzard did before they became Blizzard!).

OK, so you see it’s a mess of terms. Diablo isn’t a new game, it evolved from previous games that were similar and mixed in from other genres. How do you classify such a game in an already existing set of genre terms? It’s kind of an Action RPG that existed before, so its natural to put it into such a category. Look at all those RPG games, they are all RPG but still vastly different. BTW I never heard of bullet heaven, but that sounds really funny. It sounds like an anti name for jokes. And being the one with the bullets might even fit into the category funny and fitting name.

If have a new name for Diable like games, it will clash with other genres again. You put generic terms like Loot or Build into it and so on. What if a Diablo like game isn’t that grindy? Or does not focus much on Loot. We have been through this with various other genres. Therefore I would not even try to invent something and not take genres too seriously. It’s a mess. You can’t getting it right by adding more mess to it.

thingsiplay,

Exactly. Nowadays almost any game becomes and RPG. The terms are fluid. BTW I wouldn’t myself call Dark Souls anything like a Metroidvania, because my personal understanding is that the focus of Dark Souls is not quite on the backtracking and learning new abilities. I mean our discussion here shows again why game genres aren’t useful anymore.

We nowadays use the tagging system, which allows us to give any number of “genres” and combine them individually for each game. Even though we don’t agree on all terms, it’s still better having a single genre like ARPG associated with a game.

thingsiplay,

The only reason why EA Play is interesting to me is, because its offered on Steam and Game Pass is not. EA Play is even part of Game Pass, if I am not mistaken. But I don’t now the details, so anyone who wants to clue me in, is welcome.

thingsiplay,

Little bit offtopic, but I don’t like headlines that tells me what I think.
