narc0tic_bird, w Learn the art of seedin' torrents and boostin' the pirate community's strength, aye?

I use automatic torrent management mode with qBittorrent for most things and set it to seed every torrent for 40 days (iirc). If I had unlimited storage space, I’d probably seed forever, but I found that 40 days works well for me.

Also, don’t use a Debrid service. These services just leech requested torrents and then instantly stop seeding (if they even upload during download, not sure). This is bad for torrent health on public trackers, and will quickly get you banned on private trackers.

Lypropos,

If you seed from the same drive where you store your files, learn the art of hardlinking any torrents you’ve downloaded (that don’t require unpacking), and you can seed without taking up too much more space on your drive.

Hard links are essentially links that point to the same file. When one link is deleted, the other still exists and it is only when the last hard link is deleted that the underlying file is actually deleted.

For Windows see the following site for a hardlink tool that is integrated with the right click menu - schinagl.priv.at/nt/…/linkshellextension.html

narc0tic_bird,

I use a local HDD for downloads and a NAS for storing media for Jellyfin.

I usually keep around 3 TB seeded, a lot of the stuff I seed I don’t even store myself, it’s just temporary.

sylverstream, w Missing German Torrentio + Real Debrid Shows

RD is down, that may be related…

xKeaton,

I am aware of it, but I am facing the issue since my installation last week

Bombastic, w [SOLVED] - Stremio - RealDebrid taking down shows?

Real debrid down for maintenance

sylverstream,

Aahh thanks, stupid that I didn’t check their website. I thought it was just this show, as other shows did show RD+ results. Thanks!

CheekyYoghurts, w Where do you have your VPN setup?

On my router (Wireguard). OpenWRT ftw

Search for The Amber Room in tg, it’s basically a new Trove.

xilliah, w For a copy of Photoshop on macOS Is it current possibly to get generative fill working?

FYI Krita and Gimp should have plugins for that.

wolfshadowheart,
@wolfshadowheart@kbin.social avatar

Krita does a decent job but for my workflows I definitely want the Photoshop plugin.

I would imagine MacOS has a harder time with generative fill, you'd be using Adobe's and not Stable Diffusion (which I'm pretty sure if what these non-Adobe plugins all run from).

I mean, if there's a way to get a stable diffusion server running for you and then you... no I had to look it up, I think this looks like your best bet and even then... I'm not sure

Nerdic, w Having a hard time settling on a VPN

It’s slim pickings now if you need port forwarding. The vpns with the best privacy practices have left it behind. Windscribe has the best policies while retaining forwarding at the moment imo. You have to pay extra though unfortunately…

DonnieDarkmode,

Ah damn. From what I understand, that lack of port forwarding is what’s hurting my download speeds on torrents. Windscribe wasn’t on my radar though, I’ll check it out

JelloBrains, w Trying to download/export, and convert 1000ish kindle books to get out of amzns ecosystem
@JelloBrains@kbin.social avatar

You don't mention how they read these books, is it a Kindle e-ink device, a Fire Tablet, or some other way? I ask because the shitification has started, they have a new file format they deliver to devices that are capable of KFX. That's anything made after the 1st Paperwhite e-ink Kindle. The new KFX file is not crackable with current NoDRM/DeDRM tools that can be found on GitHub.

As for FOSS, Koreader can be found on github and is installable on most Kobo devices as well as Remarkable devices if going with e-ink, and can be installed on android devices through F-Droid or manual install. Always read the install instructions to make sure you understand the install procedure on e-ink devices.

DaCrazyJamez,

Currently android tablet with kindle app. Uses windows desktop to organize library (which the latest update forces you to do via cloud)

JelloBrains,
@JelloBrains@kbin.social avatar

I'll send you to an older post, here.

It's a hassle, but it works mostly, unless it's textbooks or books made for the Indian market. Mobile read has info about the changes, here and here.

It basically involves installing an android emulator to windows and using old Kindle for Android apps as the workaround, but Amazon can stop that whenever they feel like it.

exu,

KFX up to Kindle for PC 1.26 can be converted with the KFX input plugin.

dream_weasel, w Trying to download/export, and convert 1000ish kindle books to get out of amzns ecosystem

Is there a good FOSS e-reader platform? I was considering moving from nook TO kindle, but now you’re giving me pause.

refurbishedrefurbisher,

PineNote is one of the only ones I can think of with an e-ink display.

fmstrat,

KOReader. Even runs on jailbroken Kindles

WeAreAllOne, w Where do you have your VPN setup?

Depending on your routers capabilities. I have my VPN on my router and chose which device gets behind it or not. Works like a charm. If you want to access your server from outside your local network, you have to see if express vpn offers port forwarding.

phx,

Seems to be an increasingly rare thing these days from VPN providers. Mullvad recently dropped it, but it does look like ExpressVPN may still support it

WeAreAllOne,

Unfortunately this is true and I can’t figure out why…

Proton still supports it; easier in windows than in Linux. Also windscribe does.

melmi,
@melmi@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Nah that ExpressVPN article is about regular port forwarding, not through the VPN. If you use that type of port forwarding you’ll be leaking your IP.

phx,

Ugh, wait what? Why would anyone even do that with a VPN?

FuckyWucky, w Finding mainstream media on usenet - am I doing it wrong?

Get a tweaknews block account. From what I know they use NTD instead of DMCA and may have the missing blocks.

For indexers I’ve found nzb.su to be pretty good.

omalaul,

Thank you for the advice!

thisusernameistaken,

if the post is from 2 years ago ntd or dmca is not going to make a difference. it will be long gone regardless.

FuckyWucky,

Not sure. I’ve seen better success rates with Eweka+NewsDemon than NewsDemon/Eweka alone. Maybe different blocks are being deleted?
