SuperDuperKitten, w Nintendo's claim that emulation 'stifles innovation' isn't just absurd—it's hypocritical

Didn’t for Super Mario 3D All-Star, they just downloaded a rom of Super Mario 64 on a ROM website?

givesomefucks, w Cyberpunk and Witcher developer announces it's cutting 'roughly 9%' of its staff over the next 7 months

This makes sense tho, the big cyperpunk expansion is out in 2 months. So once that happens they won’t need as much staff.

As their next release approaches, they’ll probably staff up again.

Zana, w Telltale is back! The Expanse: A Telltale Series launches today

EGS exclusive, now I know why I haven’t seen anything about it. EGS is a black hole for marketing.

Belgdore, w Critically Acclaimed PlayStation Exclusive Struggling on PC

The game is mid and the length of exclusivity meant that it lost public attention before the PC release. A lot of people who have PCs also have PlayStations and already bought the game.

Metal_Zealot, w Critically Acclaimed PlayStation Exclusive Struggling on PC
@Metal_Zealot@lemmy.ml avatar

Maybe port the rest of the series to PC too, let people play everything back from the PS2/PS3/PSP/PS4.

Besides the original PS2 trio bundle for PS3 (and Size Matters from PSP to PS2), all the games are stuck on their original platforms.

NightOwl, w Critically Acclaimed PlayStation Exclusive Struggling on PC

Maybe try that simultaneous release strategy everyone else uses.

Ardon, w Critically Acclaimed PlayStation Exclusive Struggling on PC

I suspect it will see some more sales when it goes on a discount. It takes a hype cycle to get people to pay $80 (cad, in my case) and a timed exclusive of a known quantity story driven game does not have a hype cycle.

People want to buy the brand new exciting new chapter, they’re less keen on catching up to a now old story

Eheran, w The Problem with Linus Tech Tips: Accuracy, Ethics, & Responsibility - Gamers Nexus

What do people like about that character? When I saw him years ago he was clueless regarding technical details and somewhat childish. Did that change?

agressivelyPassive,

It’s entertainment. I think hardly anyone actually watches guys videos because of the details - which are often enough irrelevant anyways.

steal_your_face,
@steal_your_face@lemmy.ml avatar

I think a lot of people look to LTT for guidance on PC components and trust their conclusions even though they’re not as technical as something like gamers nexus.

Hello_there,

People just want to answer the question: what gets me more fps" - or "should I get this one on sale? Or go for the more expensive version?"

Elderos,

They’re making mistakes on this kind of stuff.

NightOwl,

I don’t think that is the case anymore. Saw a comment in an unrelated thread of someone talking up how LTT takes the time to make sure their sponsors are trustworthy in response to someone saying to not trusted whatever products youtubers shill in sponsored segments.

So there is a number of people who do see LTT as a respectable and honest outlet that takes their recommendations seriously.

Eheran,

With details you mean the actual tests and what not? If that is the case, I highly doubt it. LTT is even quoted/referenced/talked about by people like Dave from EEVBlog.

agressivelyPassive,

I can’t really judge the tests, I know too little about them. My point was rather that these tests are not really relevant to 99% of buyers. If, for example, GPU A is 3.5% faster than B, but costs 5% more, but also draws 5% more power, is that really a relevant information for a gamer?

flower3,

Yes

agressivelyPassive,

If you think that, you don’t understand how statistics and computers work.

flower3,

I guess you don’t understand how gamers think.

BudgieMania,

I think it's mostly a "be first, be smart, or cheat" situation, and he was first.

By the time the other productions overtook them in quality, LTT was already established enough to not get affected I guess.

Casmael, w The Problem with Linus Tech Tips: Accuracy, Ethics, & Responsibility - Gamers Nexus

Wow that billet labs thing is fucking not good man

EccTM, w The Problem with Linus Tech Tips: Accuracy, Ethics, & Responsibility - Gamers Nexus

Level1Techs, GamersNexus and Paul’s Hardware.
That’s the true trifecta of tech knowledge, in my opinion.

LTT are too busy writing jokes and hiring more merch staff these days.

PS: feel free to suggest other good tech channels

EccTM,

Just read the response Linus posted on the LTT Forums in relation to this video, and I’m now officially unsubscribed from anything LMG-related.

sLLiK, w The Problem with Linus Tech Tips: Accuracy, Ethics, & Responsibility - Gamers Nexus

It’s a bad look, and I won’t make excuses for them, but none of this really surprises me, either. I still like their content, and I already understood most of this to be the case by inference without it being spelled out like this. Their coverage has been good enough, and when I need someone to genuinely go hard on the nuts and bolts of a thing, Gamers Nexus is the better choice.

The laptop sponsorship thing is a perfect example. He straight up says he invested in them, which instantly makes the video revealing their latest model a clear extension of that sponsorship. Did I still keep watching? Hell yeah, because the laptop modularity looks awesome. Should I trust everything in the vid is presented objectively without bias?

…have you been on the Internet before?

conciselyverbose, (edited ) w Baldur's Gate 3 is going to get some big updates

ziabice about 3 hours ago
The game's great, but they should fix the inventory (is a complete mess, seems one from a game in the '90), the font size of the UI and they should let me see the cards/stats of every member of my party, even the ones which are in my camp, so I can decide what items or enhancements are best suited for them.

This is basically my only nitpick, too, playing with a controller. D:OS2 was better. I don't need the character stuff taking up half the screen of inventory management, especially when it isn't done in a way that really enhances your information on the utility of equipment to your character.

Inventory should be its own section, so you can use the triggers to hop between tabs of different types of gear. I'd also like it if they took inspiration from Elden Ring for what it does display on the characters. It's also not perfect, but letting you cycle which info sheets show in the extra panes provides a good balance between making a lot of information readily accessible without making it a chore to find.

Willy, w Is there a mouse that vibrates?

I had one 20 years back. it was cool, but somewhat limited in its adoption.

Darkassassin07,
@Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca avatar

That’s fair.

Was just the first thing that came to mind.

CoolMatt,

That sounds like force feedback joysticks for aerial combat games, where the recoil is in the peripheral.

But in modern shooters, the recoil is on screen instead, so I wonder how well a new vibrating mouse that recoils itself would pair with that.
