EmptyRadar, w Can registrations on kbin.social be disabled to stop spammers

I agree that this may be the only real solution for the time being. I have personally been trying to submit good content to my favorite magazines to combat some of the spam, but there is a real influx of it and it's making it difficult to use the site.

Hello_there, w Can registrations on kbin.social be disabled to stop spammers

Metafilter had a charge of a dollar or two to sign up, and no recurring payments. Seems like a good way to prevent spammers.
Not too much of a hurdle to cross, especially if payments are thru Amazon or some other existing service ppl have trust in. Any funds go to server costs.

MoogleMaestro, w Cross posting norms and etiquette?
@MoogleMaestro@kbin.social avatar

A bit of a miscelaneous request, but I would kind of like a single button "x-post" for articles so that I can quickly cross post to related communities. If it's a thread (like this one, and not a link), it would link directly to the thread and and also show the comments of the thread (basically becomes a pointer to an article)

HeartyBeast, w To those genuinely interested in moderating
@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

Has anyone actually been accepted as a moderator? I requested to help moderate /science a while ago - just because it was full of spam - and I've heard nothing - not even a rejection. Still happy to kill spam.

daredevil,

Since @ernest is the owner for that magazine, I think moderator requests have to go through him. Unfortunately, he was dealing with a slight fever awhile ago, and has been dealing with financial planning and project formalities awhile back as well. Hopefully things haven't gotten worse. For what it's worth, I think it's great you're eager to contribute. There have definitely been some spam issues recently. I hope a solution can be found soon. Maybe even something like posts which have a <10% upvote-to-downvote ratio over a day/week can be temporarily quarantined until an admin approves of it. Anyways, best of luck with modship.

shazbot, w Is there a way to message a user?

If using KES, check General > Add mail iconto append an icon/label next to a username to directly message them. (If on the same intance as you)

morgunkorn, w Is there a way to message a user?
@morgunkorn@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

When you click on a user name (at least in the web version), you land on that user’s profile and there’s a button “Send message” to write privately.

Please note however that the admins of the instances will have access to theses messages, they are not encrypted.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

yup one of those mental blindness things I think. Even after you said I could not find it and then did a control f and low and behold its like right there. don't know how I did not see it. even has a mail icon.

ghostatnoon, (edited )
@ghostatnoon@kbin.social avatar

Do note that you can't currently message users on other instances from kbin. The button will still be there, but it will bring you back to the homepage. I believe Ernest said something about it being "unimplemented," so I'm assuming cross-instance messaging will happen someday, but is probably not a high priority at the moment.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

thanks. that is good to know. its a rare thing but once in awhile I want to message someone.

daredevil, w What's the quickest way to find a magazine/community you've subscribed to?

You could make a (private) collection for your subscribed magazines. Not exactly the feature you were asking for, but it's an option to curate your feed. On Firefox I have various collections bookmarked and tagged so accessibility is seamless.

Kierunkowy74, w Combating spam on kbin - some thoughts
@Kierunkowy74@kbin.social avatar

A) Appoint more administrator (or other system roles with the ability to block/delete spam accounts)

@ernest already wanted to do this back in this autumn. It looks, that /kbin software actually was not ready to this, though. :/

fisco, w Anyway to get this spammer's account banned?
@fisco@lemmy.ml avatar

I think your wish may have already been answered…

HeartyBeast,
@HeartyBeast@kbin.social avatar

You may be right because the sdgfdg@kbin.social account is now doing the same thing

fisco,
@fisco@lemmy.ml avatar

That one may have been bombed off now also…🤷🏻‍♂️👍🏼

HubertManne, w [Solved] How to get rid of the arrows at the bottom of comments which collapse/expand the text?
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

I use a browser on pc and its never obscured the text once expanded for me.

speck,

Might be a mobile thing. Or browser. Always many variables to account for! But @pamasich code snippet seems to have resolved it for now

SuperSpaceFan,
@SuperSpaceFan@kbin.melroy.org avatar

I agree. It's on mobile. To get around this, I try to use the new Kbin app Interstellar. It's in early development, but progressing nicely.

speck,

Haven't heard of it. I'll look it up!

Prouvaire, w [Solved] How to get rid of the arrows at the bottom of comments which collapse/expand the text?

It may have something to do with the bug mentioned here:

The improved collapsible comments add-on, part of the original KES collection in version 1.0.0, has some conflicts with kbin's own implementation of collapsible comments. I am cleaning this up, but it may take some time

speck,

Ah, nice thank you. I'll look for that and disable it, see if it helps

mules, w To those genuinely interested in moderating

@Ernest is the process for approving an ownership request done manually by you? I requested ownership of a magazine a few weeks ago and it hasn't gone through. I know you've been busy with running/improving the site so it might be worth making the process either automatic or give permission to someone you trust to approve/deny. Hope you are having a good one!

DarkGamer, w What do you think about upvoting/boosting your own post?
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

I'm all for it and I think it's funny when people give me crap for it.

olorin99, w Improved Channel Select Menu 0.2.0 — Makes your subscribed magazines and liked channels more accessible
@olorin99@kbin.social avatar

Found a bug. On mobile the menu is partly offscreen. image. Looks like the menu is aligned with the button rather than with the edge of the screen.

Just released a new update. Is it fixed?

olorin99,
@olorin99@kbin.social avatar

Yep, all good now.

Prouvaire, w Improved Channel Select Menu 0.2.0 — Makes your subscribed magazines and liked channels more accessible

Thanks very much for this. I've been hoping that raltsm4k updates Floating Subs List to incorporate collections, but they haven't been active since mid-last year.

Given your code is partly based on this script, I wonder if you might consider modifyingraltsm4k's Floating Subs List script so that collections appear as part of the sidebar. As a fallback, maybe modify your script so that collections appear before magazines rather than after. This would make it easier to use both scripts, one to access magazines in the sidebar, and the other to more easily access liked collections.

ThatOneKirbyMain2568,
@ThatOneKirbyMain2568@kbin.social avatar

I'd definitely be up for that! I also got a lot of use out of raltsm4k's sub list, so I can see how some might prefer to have it in that format.

As for sorting collections and magazines in my script, I plan on making a setting so that you can toggle which comes first.
