Looks gorgeous, like Homeworld 2 but bigger. I really want this to be good: I spent so much time picking through the HW2 game files to create my own robot drone race, with its own tech tree and ships. Of course I was hopeless at 3D modeling so I couldn’t do the full mod like I wanted to, lol. Maybe I can make my robotic Vorlon race again?
Oh it definitely is. I mean we've had many re-releases of a 2600 including multiple Flashback consoles.
AFAIK, only one was moddable to use old catridges, but none shipped with that capability. But many came with a 20+ games and were significantly cheaper.
I still can’t believe they made some of the Flashbacks with IR remotes. My kids grew up in the age of the Switch. They have no idea how to keep a controller within line of sight of the console.
Be also ready for the realization of how barebones those games are. Played a couple of 2600 games with a friend and there is just a tiny amount of genuine fun to be had. And I am definitely not hating on simple old games! But most of the games we tried boiled down to “follow ball” with terrible controls. His collection might just have been bad, though.
Game quality is what crashed the home video game industry between Atari’s decline and Nintendo’s rise. Not that all of the games were bad, there were just so many bad games out there that buying games became a gamble that disappointed more often than not.
Nintendo improved on this by requiring games meet certain standards before they’d let someone release them for their system.
There’s a few games I missed out on over the years, due to a long period where I had neither a console nor a GPU. HL is one of them… I’ve tried checking out some older games now I have a GPU but struggled to get into them due to the graphics.
So I’ll 100% be getting stuck into this when it’s out! Big thanks to the team taking on this task.
I find I can’t get into them if I physically play them on PC. One look and I get the “potato graphics” feeling and start increasing AA, texture packs, etc. Now if I stream it to my TV or phone, it’s like “oh okay this is normal for this thing” and it tricks my brain to not caring.
This could totally get me to finally get going and build a new gaming rig.
I wish the team luck. I’m sure it’s not am easy task, looking at other, similar projects like Black Mesa, but the demo is stunning. Would love to see what Ravenholm looks like…
My first thought was “So Holland is just going to grunt and breathe or something?” Then i remembered that they made J&D games past The Precursor Legacy.
My second thought was that Chris Pratt won’t be able to do justice to Daxter. Get Billy West.
Just finished Cult of the Lamb, but might have to pick it up for this. The survival mechanics sound interesting and it seems like they mesh well with the base game. Also, the crown having its own little tent when you sleep is a nice touch.
