I’m a massive FFVII fan, and that 2 year wait ALMOST lost my interest. I finally picked it up, where it remained the most expensive game I had purchased for a good long while. I was happy with that, because I heard “the other installments will be included!”
Guess I heard them wrong. They lost me. I won’t pay 90 bucks again for another chapter of a 2 year old remake of a 30 year old game.
I hope other devs chill out with ray tracing, especially with unreal engine. We’ve seen very rare implementations of it on current consoles that actually are desirable (Metro Exodus, Spider-Man/R&C, Doom Eternal) and all are on bespoke engines that don’t upscale from sub 1080p (maybe not Metro Exodus).
In a whimsical twist, I just popped my ps4 copy into my PS5 this last week to see how it had changed. I can tell you, it has VASTLY improved. The game on PS4 was constantly on limp mode, crashing somewhat often. Looked like junk, not much to redeem it. Managed to get through the whole game, but never really explored or adventured much past the story - was just too painful to try to do much more than that.
The PS5 version is actually so much better, and even visually reaching the point of impressive. The gameplay feels like I imagine they meant it to, including some fun gun- and knife-play. I’m also enjoying the story more now that I’m not constantly worrying about a crash. Do recommend a revisit if you’ve played and were disappointed (don’t worry, I recognize my PS5 may be what made the difference haha).
Finally. The first one, I waited and waited for it to get PC port before I played it. When Forbidden West came out, I traded a smart watch for a ps4 pro, got FW from Gamefly, finished the game, and then immediately resold the ps4. Been waiting for it to come to PC so I can finally buy it on Steam.
