What are some eras of gaming that you've stopped feeling nostalgic for? (kbin.social) angielski

As I've gotten older as a player, I have found myself dropping some eras of gaming that I used to be nostalgic for. One of them is the 8-bit era, the NES days. I have played some of the best that system had to offer and I will never say that system didn't have any good games....

cyborganism,

Oh yeah! I used to play Unreal Tournament every day for hours. Also played Wolfenstein Enemy Territory a lot in the past.

Nowadays these games just don’t appeal to me anymore.

cyborganism,

I think big studios are jealous of the success that smaller indy game developers are getting.

cyborganism,

Well yeah. Didn’t they just announce they wouldn’t be making any more consoles in the future?

cyborganism,

Ah! Good to know!

Yeah I had heard rumors that they were going to focus on multi platform gaming instead, but apparently they will still be doing more consoles. That’s good!

cyborganism,

So what? I still enjoy it. And that’s what matters.

cyborganism,

The Messenger (a ninja Gaiden style Metroidvania) and Sea of Stars (a Chrono Trigger style RPG)

Blasphemous 1 and 2 are some really fucking amazing Metroidvania games with some incredible pixel art.

Hollow Knight is another gorgeous game that, to me, is the closest thing to Super Metroid in modern genre.

Axiom Verge 1 and 2 are love letters to Metroid actually…

Octopath Traveler is a nice jrpg style game with great visuals that mix pixel art with modern graphics.

Cuphead is a great platform run n gun.

Blazing Chrome is a love letter to Contra.

Huntdown is a fucking awesome platform shoot em up with amazing pixel art set in a cyber punk dystopia reminiscent of old 80s-90s action movies.

And the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder’s Revenge is a great arcade style beat em up that really captures the old TMNT 4 vibes.

Mother Russia Bleeds is another great beat em up with a great story and ambiance.

The Undertale series is a great RPG series that’s worth a playthrough for real. It’s so much fun and the story and characters are so well written.

Broforce for complete pandemonium, especially with friends. It’s like The Expendables, the game. Except you can destroy everything on the screen.

Towerfall is a great multiplayer challenge game well worth it.

Gato Roboto is a fun game worth playing. So is Under Dungeon. Or Dogurai and Squidlit If you reach to play a more Gameboy style experience.

Flashback, a cyberpunk Prince of Persia style game. It’s an oldie but a goodie.

Crypt of the Necrodancer is a great dungeon crawler where you have to follow the beat of the music. It’s an amazing game. They even made a Legend of Zelda game based on it. Called Cadence of Hyrule.

I mean there are so many more but those are in my top on the switch.

cyborganism,

Oh those are all on the switch for the most part. Except for Flashback, they’re all fairly recent games.

cyborganism,

I did. I woke up at 4:30 am due to some indigestion problems and couldn’t fall back asleep when I wrote this so I wasn’t seeing very clearly.

cyborganism,

For me it has to be Death Stranding. Absolutely gorgeous game. I loved to explore the world of that game.

But the gameplay is extremely repetitive. And the story drags on and on. And once you reach a certain level, is almost too easy.

cyborganism,

On the SNES: Star Fox and TMNT 4 turned in time.

On PC it’s probably gonna be Space Quest 3 and Star Wars X-WING Alliance.

cyborganism,

It was! It felt peaceful. Simple. You didn’t have to find or craft food all the time to eat too stay alive.

cyborganism,

I think I’m going to download all my digital purchases into SD cards and hopefully they’ll still be playable when the OG switch reaches EOL.

cyborganism,

Also, I wouldn’t know how to back the sd cards up in case they break. You can’t exactly do an image and duplicate them. It doesn’t work so well with SD cards.

cyborganism,

You can have errors when you write it back into another SD card and end up with a corrupt card. That was from experience a long time ago.

Maybe the tools are better adapted now?

cyborganism,

Not with a Nintendo Switch SD card I would think?

cyborganism,

No thanks.

cyborganism,

Super Mario Bros on the NES. I remember getting super frustrated and throwing a tantrum because I couldn’t figure out how to jump over the second hole. Hahahaha man I was pathetic.

cyborganism,

Right??? There’s lots of games I own that I played through once or twice and will probably never play again. I was hoping something like this would come along someday.

cyborganism,

Not disappointed in the trailer or the game or anything, but I would’ve loved to see a GTA set in a city outside the US. For example in a London-like city or Tokyo or Rome or Paris.

But yeah this new GTA looks sick. They did a great job in capturing the new fucked up Florida vibe.

cyborganism,

Thanks for the reference! I’ll check that out!

cyborganism,

Hahahahaha

cyborganism,

That just might be a good indy game project actually…

cyborganism,

That’s true lol. It’s not called grand theft métro de Paris.

cyborganism,

True. Chicago would’ve been nice. Or Atlanta.

cyborganism,

Good point. And Florida has become crazy enough that a GTA game set there is almost realistic.

cyborganism,

Agree. Florida culture has become very conductive for this kind of game.

cyborganism,

Ah… you make a very good point.

cyborganism,

I, too, miss the easy pick up and play games of the past.

cyborganism,

from 20 years ago

That’s not so long ago for me, or in gaming history my friend lol.

I’m talking more of the NES, SNES era. (All consoles anc PC included during that same time.) They were much simpler. The most complex ones were maybe simulator type games.

Many big title games today require a full on tutorial that can go from 15 mins to 30 mins to explain all the game mechanics and gameplay, inventory systems, power-ups, etc. Then you have all the DLC, loot boxes and all the other bull shit.

Back in the 80’s-90’s you just put in the cartridge, pressed power and played. (Or typed the DOS command, ENTER, and played.) You had the full game on the get go and you could learn the game mechanics in a couple of minutes or a few rounds of playing.

There are games today that still do this and keep it simple, and those tend to the the ones that I’ll play and re-play and play again.

cyborganism,

Alright. Whatever man. And thanks for making me feel old as shit.

cyborganism,

Yeah!! Blaster Master zero is on my wishlist. (I got so many games on my wishlist…)

cyborganism,

Uh… Yesterday? They’ve become my go to now. They’re so much more fun. A lot of them are just pick up and play. And they bring new concepts and stories instead of the same old crap.

Oh and they’re a lot more affordable.

cyborganism,

Megaman 2, Chrono Trigger, Zelda A Link to the Past and a special mention to Duke Nukem 3D and Star Wars X-Wing on MS DOS.

‘Call of Duty’ Doesn’t Just Depict Bad History—It’s Pro-War Propaganda (progressive.org)

I just started playing COD Black Ops Cold War because I got it through my PlayStation Plus subscription and wanted to try it out. I’ve previously played some others like Modern Warfare (1 and 2) and WWII. While it always felt a bit over the top and propaganda-ish, I really liked it for the blockbuster feeling and just turning...

cyborganism,

Yeah. I never played any other CoD games than the WWII ones. CoD 1, 2, the Pacific one (world at war?) and the latest WWII.

When I saw them release the modern warfare one after the invasion of Iraq, I thought it was so distasteful I never bothered to pay any other CoD game because I knew it would be uncomfortable.

cyborganism,

Yeah I’ve seen videos of his work and it’s goddamn impressive.
