Anyone who played Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League could probably guess that something went terribly wrong during development. Bloomberg now reports that the multiplayer bomb from a studio beloved for its single-player Batman: Arkham games was plagued by several issues leading up to its repeatedly delayed launch....
It is amazing how out of touch someone can be with reality.
Also, classic blaming the guy that just left. Maybe he contributed to some of the issues, but I guarantee there was a mountain of other issues unrelated to this guy.
I am disappointed in what Konami and Blooper have done, but I am not surprised honestly. Lots of absolutely pointless changes, and they completely trashed Angela’s face. Why remove Maria’s leapord print skirt? There is literally no reason to change it. Completely changed first encounter, completely different hospital map layout, its not even the same game anymore. At least RE2 Remake had like 80-90% mostly the same or very similar content. This made Gans’ movie look more faithful than the remake, that is what I would consider a problem.
Oh well, first Ascension was bad, then Short Message was bad, now SH2 is looking not so great, maybe Silent Hill f will be different.
It doesn’t look any better. Stiff animations, no idea who thought Angela was supposed to look like that.
Like, I don’t even want to pirate it. I can’t believe I am saying this but Gans’ movie looks more faithful to the original than the remake. They changed like literally everything.
I dont mean that it looks janky because the animations are expected to be some sort of action game animations, thats not it at all. The animation quality itself is just not good. Like, the original had less stiff or awkward looking animations in some cases. Particularly in the transitions between animation states and some of the hit animations for the metal pipe, for example. The point of survival horror, and its main distinguishing point that makes it different from action horror, is that combat is not meant to feel good or satisfying. A good survival horror game will make the player more often than not choose to not engage in combat. Its better to save health and not waste time. But this remake just throws that out the window I guess.
Flesh Lips battle room is like 3 times bigger than it originally was. The locker room you get the bent needle in is needlessly larger than the original. The room you use the bent needle and hair to get the key in is no longer just a shower room but some random utility room with a shower in the corner for some reason. Marias leapord print skirt is gone, with her midriff covered and the important large butterfly/moth tatoo shrunk and moved up to her chest. All these random changes that were entirely unnecessary.
Have you seen what they did to Angela? They haven’t even shown Eddie. Not a single frame of Eddie literally anywhere. They have mishandled every face in the game, I am afraid of what they did to Eddie.
Honestly, 5.1 surround sound is worth waiting the extra like 2 seconds of the logo. The fact that the game only has mono or stereo sound output just because he didn’t want to have a logo on the screen for a few seconds is not putting user experience over marketing.
It would honestly make more sense that Nintendo told him he couldn’t add it because they didn’t want to pay for it and this is how he justified it to himself.
See, now before you used to be able to buy an individual copy of the game. Then you did have the right to edit those out. Can’t do that when you only buy a license.
You realize this is Lemmy, and on Lemmy you have to hate every business and every product produced by a business apparently, right? If it isn’t FOSS, then you aren’t allowed to like it.
It was uncommon, but not so uncommon that it didn’t warrant being added to the game. Especially when Dolby was handing out licenses like candy apparently. I would imagine it was cheap to get a license, and would make some sense why Air Ride wouldn’t have it. Air Ride is my favorite Kirby game, but even I recognize that Air Ride is probably one of the lowest budget Kirby games.
I would understand the complaint if it was longer, like 5 or 7 seconds long for just the Dolby logo. But its not.
Like, if seeing a logo for two seconds bothers you that much, better close your eyes when driving riding the bus walking around town, otherwise you might see a dreaded billboard or advertisement.
This is not true at all and demonstrates a profound misunderstanding of how surround sound worked.
Nintendo 64 games like Donkey Kong 64 and Conker’s Bad Fur Day supported surround sound. Even Star Fox on the SNES supported surround sound. All through composite cables.
It works by encoding multiple channels into two channels, so it can then decode those channels to send the proper signal to the proper speaker. For Dolby specifically, you need a Pro Logic compatible receiver, which could decode that signal. If you don’t have a Pro Logic compatible receiver then you will only hear stereo output.
Loading screens in a game take longer than two seconds and don’t have the benefit of running one time before the game starts and adding surround sound support. So you would rather be greeted with a black screen as a game with less features loads instead?
You can downvote me too, I don’t really care about imaginary numbers. No need to apologize.
I am just disappointed that Lemmy was supposed to be a better place than Reddit, but my experience on Lemmy has actually become worse than my experience on Reddit.
I don’t care about the number. The frustration comes from people that act exactly as Redditors do. Lemmy users in this thread insulting and name calling, etc. I don’t care about the insults themselves (which are against communit rules), the fact that Lemmy was supposed to be “a better place” and yet the exact same crap is happening is what is disappointing.
Reddit is equally as fixable as Lemmy. Just because the primary owner of Reddit is a shareholder and the primary developer of Lemmy is a communist doesn’t make it easier for either to do anything. The fundamental problem is the users, the people hiding behind anonymity. They can be the absolute worst garbage being because they’re anonymous, instead of just being a decent human. Changing that people isntantly go to that rather than a kind human is the only real way to fix it, and in that regard Lemmy can never be fixed just like Reddit can never be fixed.
Lemmy was not always like this. But since about 7 or 8 months ago, it became this way. And there is no going back.
This is honestly pretty funny. Even another government agency recognized how bad the response was. That was literally like someone asking how old you are, and you respond by telling them the definition of age.
If you didn’t like pausing the game for your boots, you’re definitely not going to like having to leave the dungeon to turn into a kid, come back to the dungeon just so you can get an item, leave the dungeon to become an adult again, just to finish the dungeon.
The Spirit Temples music was good but wasn’t better than the Water Temples. Nabooru is a character I liked more than Ruto, but that is completely subjective. The Water Temple had Dark Link and that boss fight easily beats out Iron Knuckle and Twinrova, and Dark Link was just a miniboss.
With such a broad scope on what counts as “disparagement,” this has caused quite a stir among the community, with some players being banned without realizing the terms of this contract. The developers released a statement addressing these terms, with NetEase saying it is aware of the “inappropriate and...
I am surprised it was NetEase, as these kinds of policies are basically always from Japanese companies. Japan’s defamation laws are literal garbage that basically just protect big companies and abusers, so seeing a similar kind of clause from a non-Japanese company is quite strange. I mean, imagine a country whose defamation laws don’t care if something being said is true or not, if it damages the reputation of something even if it is true, then Japan’s law considers it defamation. Garbage.
I play some NetEase games (most notably Super Mecha Champions, its on Steam) and I have honestly been surprised that they are so welcoming of feedback. Most of their games literally have an option in the menus of the games to send feedback to the developers, positive or negative. They are fast to act on reports I have sent, and generally have been vastly less hatable than Tencent. So seeing that this happened was a shock to me. Glad they’re correcting the problem though.
I don’t mind ads on ingame billboards like how old Need For Speed games had like, Old Spice or Gillette or Cingular Wireless ads as a static texture on a billboard in the game world. Or some of the buildings in the game had branding on them like a Best Buy building. As long as it fits into the world setting I don’t consider those intrusive or obstructive to the experience. For example, I would expect there to be none of those kinds of ads in a game like Skyrim since it is a fantasy setting and those kinds of settings never have ads for anything other than market booth signs on the market tent or something.
However, those are the only kind of ad I am okay with. Fullscreen popups and big boxes that take up space eon menu screens is a huge problem.
I predict EA will not return to the former style I mentioned and will likely only attempt the latter again with disastrous results.
The best controller I arguably thing is the 360 controller. It just feels right to use in fighting games and fps. I like xboxs layout with the analog sticks....
I mean, I gotta mention Steel Battalion for the OG Xbox. The experience of playing with that controller is truly saddening when game developers these days won’t do anything similar. Yes, it was expensive back then, and would probably be expensive now. But you know what? It was totally worth that cost. Any person that has played the game will agree.
But for more normal controllers, I like the layout of the WiiU Pro controller, with both sticks at the top. I never owned a WiiU, but I did get a third party Xbox One USB controller that had this configuration. While it was obviously a very cheap controller, I really liked the ergonomics of it.
I have enjoyed my Xbox Elite V2 controller, it has served me well the last few years. The dish shaped Dpad is a nice feature, even though I don’t play games that use it too much I can see where it could be extra beneficial for fighting game players to make circular movements easier.
Gaming journalists sure want a Sony monopoly of gaming consoles, don’t they?
If Xbox didn’t exist, consumers could only choose PlayStation. Nintendo has shown they have no interest in making real console hardware to compete with Sony or Microsoft anymore, so consumers will get literally only one console choice. That’s bad. Especially since they could set prices at whatever they want and nobody could challenge it.
I get journalists hate Xbox, but Xbox needs to exist as a consumer option.
The Steam Deck is not a console, it is a handheld Linux PC with “console gaming” TV output as an afterthought, just like the Nintendo Switch is a handheld android tablet with console gaming as an afterthought.
Being able to play AAA games is not a qualifier for a console. My PC can also play AAA games, but it is not a console.
The Steam Deck, and Switch, are both handhelds. It is a subcategory of game console, but it is not considered a game console just the same as a Game Boy is not considered a console, but it is a handheld. Both the Steam Deck and Switch have a screen and internal battery, along with a controller that is built onto the device, like a Game Boy.
A Steam Machine is a Linux PC, but is more similar to a console than the Steam Deck.
While you can do that with a Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch, that was not their primary design. Its no different than plugging in a laptop to a TV with a wireless controller and gaming on that. That is not a console, it was not designed as such.
Additionally, the quality of gaming experience you get from a Switch is worse than on Steam Deck for intensive games, even for native Switch games sometimes. But the quality of games on the Steam Deck is worse than a purpose built game console like the Xbox Series X or PS5. Keep in mind the Steam Deck is 2 years newer than the Xbox Series X or PS5. While the experience may be comparable on some less intensive games, the console experience is objectively better.
Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch are not competition to Xbox or PlayStation. Valve and Nintendo don’t view them as such, and neither do consumers.
Does the wii u not count as a console because the controller had a screen and the price to performance is poor?
The WiiU Gamepad did not function on its own, it had to be connected to the actual console in order to function. It was literally a controller with a screen. It did not have any functionality without the console.
Nintendo is not competing with Microsoft or Sony, and that’s why they can sell more.
People arent choosing between Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch. Theyre choosing between Xbox or PlayStation, and also buying a Switch. That is not competition.
I see. I will try to provide as detailed of a concrete definition as possible for you.
A video game console is an electronic device that is built with the specific purpose of playing video games. It can do other things as well, but its primary function that it is designed around is playing video games. A console does not have a built in screen or control device, but instead those devices are separate and connect to the console in order to give it inputs and for it to output its signal to the user. A video game console does not run a standard computer operating system that one might find on a workstation, but it can run a modified version of a standard operating system that is specifically optimized for the console hardware to play video games more efficiently The console device is to be placed in a permanent location while in operation, and must be plugged into an electrical socket or similar power supply, as it is not powered by an internal battery.
A handheld is a subcategory of video game console that differs by having a screen and controller built into the device. It is not in a permanent location while in operation, rather it is operated while held in the users hands. These have a battery to provide power to the unit.
Well this is the traditional definition of a video game console, it includes all video game consoles before the current generation. For example, the SNES, SEGA Genesis, and PC Engine/TurboGrafx16 were all competing consoles, but the SEGA GameGear and Nintendo Gameboy were not competing with those consoles.
As I said, handhelds are a subcategory of console. Like how a laptop is a subcategory of personal computer.
A handheld is a kind of console. It is not in competition or in the same class as a regular console.
A square is a kind of rectangle, nobody that says “draw a rectangle” expects you to draw a square, they expect a box with two sides longer than the other two but equal in length to each other adjoined at 90° angles. A square is a subcategory of rectangle. Its definition includes some features of a rectangle, but it also has other features that define it as clearly different from a rectangle.
Likewise a laptop is a subcategory of personal computer. A tablet such as a Microsoft Surface could also be a subcategory of personal computer. But if someone talks about their PC, you don’t think of a laptop or Surface.
Its the same with consoles and handhelds. By technicality one could call a handheld a console in the same way a person could call a Surface a personal computer, but that would be the same as calling a hot dog a sandwich, or calling a submarine a boat.
Perhaps “home console” would be more descriptive, but since video game consoles were always understood to not be handheld devices, there is no need to subdivide the parent category. Just “consoles” and “handhelds” works fine.
I don’t think big companies know how to make a good FPS campaign anymore, let alone hone in on classic deathmatch multiplayer. BG3 is another good example but surely you can agree that was like a drop of water in an ocean of sand. Games that well done are incredibly rare, and it mostly comes down to just writing. The actual game mechanics and graphics quality of games now are better than they have ever been for the most part. But the games are bad, not because of those things, but because the writing fails to capture the players interest.
I was specifically talking about writing for video games and movies, I haven’t read very many books or comics lately so I couldn’t know if it applies there as well or not.
