SilentStorms, w Ohh yeah, EMPRESS drama is BACK!

Jesus, everyone involved in this shit is so deranged. God I hope the “Scene” dies out with the next generation, just chill people releasing cracks without following a tome of rules and schizoposting.

Goodtoknow,
@Goodtoknow@lemmy.ca avatar

Is there some correlation with this insane low level understanding of software engineering and a mental health issues? A lot of the scene seems to be like this and good old Terry Davis (rest in peace you racist)

AtomicPurple,
@AtomicPurple@kbin.social avatar

Unironically, yes. Multiple studies dating back years have found a link between high intelligence and various mental health issues.
There was one particular paper I read about a decade ago, where researchers surveyed a bunch of collage students to find demographic trends based on their preferred operating system. From what I recall, the demographics of Windows users were not too far off from those of the university as whole, and Mac users were similar, aside from women being significantly over-represented. Linux users on the other hand, were almost all men, and nearly every mental health issue imaginable was over-represented by a huge margin.

@WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I use Linux, and my wife’s head in the freezer says I’m perfectly sane.

pitl,
@pitl@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

As a CS dude who uses Linux and is around way too many people who seem like they genuinely are in need of some therapy on a daily basis, this entirely checks out, tbh.

I’m now mildly worried for my own mental state

bobotron,

It’s ok amigo, from this one comment I’ve read of yours you seem like you are just fine

gamer,

That’s funny, but I’m betting my nutsack that you just made that up, or it’s copy pasta.

sourcery, w Ohh yeah, EMPRESS drama is BACK!

I did not have defending DRM on my bingo card. Transphobia is especially vile though.

sounddrill,

Defending the intent behind DRM is fine, but DRM is the worst

uriel238,
@uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Nope. The problem is DRM that works is always abused. Remember the unskippable ads on DVDs and Blu-Rays? Always.

Neato, w Ohh yeah, EMPRESS drama is BACK!
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

What the fuck? First they call out Empress for actually being a man from Bulgaria. Then they drop a transphobic slur. Then they defend DRM and publishers.
I can understand supporting the developers and promoting buying software you enjoy when you can. But one of the big motivations for cracking software is software preservation and removing DRM that harms legit user experiences. So I say again, wtf?

520,

Raging people seldom make much sense or consistency.

vsis,
@vsis@feddit.cl avatar

I didn’t understand the DRM part neither.

rikudou,
@rikudou@lemmings.world avatar

There’s this thing where they pretend they actually do it to be first and not because they want people to download their cracks. And that’s how you get the crazy talk where they pretend they’re pro-DRM.

Infiltrated_ad8271,
@Infiltrated_ad8271@kbin.social avatar

The worst thing is that, compared to empress, they were quite moderate. I don't know what's wrong with them or why they're all so mad... but I love the drama, I'm looking forward to the next episode.

sounddrill,

🍿🍿

Maho, w Ohh yeah, EMPRESS drama is BACK!

Seriously? their attack against an asshole transphobe is… calling her tr*nny and being exactly as shitty as her?

Aesthesiaphilia,

That's why it's so juicy, they're all such terrible people we don't have to pick sides

ninjan,

Literally Jersey Shore for nerds… Why do we primates love trashy drama so much???

azayrahmad,

I don’t even pirate software anymore, just here to pass the popcorn.

DrJenkem, w Ohh yeah, EMPRESS drama is BACK!
@DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube avatar

I have half a mind to start releasing cracks just so there’s 1 cracker who isn’t a fucking bigot.

EDIT: btw, didn’t Voksi get arrested back in 2018? And EMPRESS started releasing cracks in like 2019. So are we to believe that Voksi goes to jail for a year, and immediately comes out and starts cracking again, all without receiving another visit from the feds? Doubt.

EDIT2: lol here’s Voksi’s response: lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/2218172

Fuck EMPRESS and SKIDROW, SKIDROW for dragging Voksi into the petty bullshit and both of them for their childish, edgleord bullshit.

yukichigai,
@yukichigai@kbin.social avatar

I have half a mind to start releasing cracks just so there’s 1 cracker who isn’t a fucking bigot.

I have had this exact thought, but that would undoubtedly eat up what little free time I have these days. I don't have as much of it as I used to.

Hudell,

And that’s why all those folks have mental issues. Having the skill is not enough, you need to pretty much dedicate your whole life to “the craft”

sounddrill,

No need to crack games but hear me out: fork goldberg emu and maintain

gamer,

I don’t get why people here are expecting pirates of all people to be polite company.

k110111, w How could I start a torrent site and not get caught?

Okay thats a fun question to answer.

Disclaimer: i don’t know much about piracy and stuff in general but studied computer science so sharing this just for funsies DO NOT TAKE THIS ADVICE IF YOU ARE SERIOUS!!!

Okay so here it goes:

Buy crypto then use crypto mixers to annonymize it.

Use a webhosting site that accept said crypto.

Use vpn for everything preferably more than one routing from multiple countries like one from west then one from east.

If you can use a vm specifically for everything related to your site to make sure things are contained.

Make sure to not upload from the same id’s as the one you use to create site. Make a user account if you wanna upload anything.

Read up on how other such websites are created to figure out if you are missing something.

ellipse,
@ellipse@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

well good thing you said to not take this advice because it’s not really good.

  1. Don’t use crypto mixers, a lot of them are scams and their usefullness is up to debate -> instead use monero, the actual private crypto that is used throughout darknet.
  2. Don’t use VPNs to be anonymous. VPN are useful for a few things: torrenting, browsing on a public wifi and bypassing georestrictions. they are not useful if you want to be anonymous! To be anonymous, use TOR (or i2p) 3.the VM advice is good. alternatively you could use TailsOS which is more user friendly.
  3. Don’t. Especially if you need to ask how to do it first.
Conyak, w How could I start a torrent site and not get caught?

Step 1: Move to Switzerland. Step 2: torrent site

magnor,
@magnor@lemmy.magnor.ovh avatar

Probably safer to move to Russia or North Korea.

matey,

I don’t think you and I have the same definition of the word “safer.”

magnor,
@magnor@lemmy.magnor.ovh avatar

Safer for the torrent site. For the people running it, eh, who knows.¯\(ツ)/¯

Rabbit,

Start revolution and overthrow dictator and put myself in as dictator. Build up military and gather nukes under guise of protecting country, but it’s really to protect me from copyright trolls.

chicken, w How could I start a torrent site and not get caught?

I wonder if there could be a torrent site that is decentralized enough that no one really has significant liability for running it, like Bittorrent itself but for the indexing/curation aspect.

SootyChimney,

I-Is this serious? This is literally what The Pirate Bay is now.

chicken,

The Pirate Bay is decentralized and not run by any particular people/group? That’s news to me, and kind of hard to believe tbh, can you cite a source?

Redredme, w How could I start a torrent site and not get caught?

Be Russian.

The end.

lonke,

But then you’d have a myriad of arguably worse problems.

inverimus, w [Question] If using linux , where are your sources of games and what are cs.rin.ru clean steam files and how to use them?

You will find it very difficult to get help with game piracy on linux just because the community is very small. If the game has a native release it will be even harder since most linux users want to support developers that do native releases. I’ve only ever tried a couple games that I had no problems with and that was a few years ago. These days if it has a native release I will always just buy it.

KDE,

I do get that point , but I don’t want to lie I am preety broke who lives in a third world country I am simply unable to afford such luxury of buying games

whodoctor11,

Blizzard, w Torrent Like a Pro - A Guide to Safe Torrenting with qBittorrent + Aggregated torrent search engine

Not sure if this convinces me… Installing a new service on your PC just to search from within qBittorrent? When one has a trusted torrent site where one can check torrent comments & shit? Perhaps I’ll give it a try but I’m not sure if it’s such a game changer as the author claims.

jws_shadotak,

If you use Sonarr and Radarr, I highly recommend Prowlarr. If an indexer gets taken down or you find a new one, you can quickly add or remove them just from Prowlarr and it’ll do the same to your other *arrs.

It’s got a ton of built-in indexer options to set it up quickly.

Toribor,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

If I’m already using Jackett with Sonarr/Radar and don’t really have any problems with it, should I still consider trying Prowlarr? What is it doing differently?

Old_Jimmy_Twodicks,
@Old_Jimmy_Twodicks@sh.itjust.works avatar

Prowlarr is the preferred search engine for all the *Arr services. I switched because when you make adjustments to Prowlarr (adding/removing/modifying sources, changing search priorities, etc.), those changes automatically carry over to Sonarr/Radarr/etc.

I have a ton of sources that I micromanage because I have turbo-autism. It was a pain in the ass to tinker with the sources in multiple places with Jackett, and I wound up with lots of gaps and asymmetry. Prowlarr is just cleaner.

Dirk_Darkly, w Can anyone recommend a VPN that has working port forwarding?

I will sing the praises of Windscribe until the day I die. Privacy respecting, affordable and great customer service. And yes, they offer port forwarding as well.

max2078,

For some old customers they currently offer a $10 annual subscription including port forwarding, that’s just insanely cheap.

Kinda based. Fuck cloudflare basically monopolizing internet access.

LoafyLemon,

Did anyone even bother to check out the article? Cloudflare is being allowed again since the ban broke the rules of net neutrality... It's the IP blocking methods that are being outlawed.

octoblade,

I don’t think it is blocked, just down at the moment.
