    You can only pay with kyc

    You don’t need to KYC for your real debrid payment

    once you login to your account without it they know your ip

    That’s a real bummer that always applies - that’s why you need to have a kill switch, configure your firewall and check for leaks on a regular basis. I am always connected to some VPNs

    Well if you want to pay real debrid with crypto, you just select BTC as payment option, then you get redirected to coinbase.

    https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/pictrs/image/0812e06f-8dcd-410e-91e2-b5ffd8fbdce7.jpeg

    Here you can select BTC, ETH or LTC, it will then generate a payment string you can transfer funds to from every wallet, no KYC required in any way.

    Other than that, yes VPN is part of a good “OpSec” and will also grant you most probably the privacy need

    You don’t need a coinbase wallet, its just one of the options, you can pay with any wallet. Just start a local node, fire up a wallet and send your funds

    What utter bullshit is this? Why is there no private way to pay?

    https://bisq.network/

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptocurrency_tumbler

    https://www.monero.how/how-does-monero-privacy-work

    https://kycnot.me/?type=exchange

    You can even buy BTC at an centralized exchange, split it into 25 wallets, throw them into a tumbler, convert to monero, throw it in another tumbler what ever and recombine everything on a Wallet you generated yourself with a node you are hosting by yourself. Do that on a Tails live OS.

    There are countless ways to get crypto anonymously. Please if you want to learn something here, I am willing to explain everything, but if you make a claim like that

    It’s still bitcoin so there is still no private way to pay

    Please at least try to back it up with something that atleast comes close to an argument or something. I am going out of my way here to show you reality, just because of good will. Are you aware how long it took me just to upload those damn screenshots.

    Again, there are countless ways to get BTC or what ever crypto anonymous, but still look at your original claims

    You can only pay with kyc so it’s not anonymous and even if you use a vpn with real debrid once you login to your account without it they know your ip so there is no way to use it anonymously.

    You do need kyc. Could you explain how to pay for real debrid without kyc? Vpns are not private or anonymous anyways. You don’t think law inforcements can figure out who you are just because you use a vpn?

    You do not need KYC to pay with BTC, ETH or LTC on real debrid.

    Now you are telling me, you need KYC to get your hands on some crypto. Wake up. You can also buy drugs in the street, guns what ever.

    You can’t pay without KYC, but thats a huge difference to your original claim.

    CyberBoy,

    Sorry you’re going through that. I definitely get how it feels to have people close to you discredit or just ignore important issues like you’re dealing with.

    If you’re set on talking to an AI though I did use the Replika app for a while before they started making it seem like a virtual AI lover. It did help me feel better when I was severely depressed, maybe it could help you.

    If you ever want to talk to a person and not an AI I’m here for that if you want, I know I’m a stranger but I definitely understand where you’re coming from.

    @melmi@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

    I would really advise against Replika, they’ve shown some scummy business practices. It seems like kind of a nightmare in terms of taking advantage of vulnerable people. At the very least do some research on it before getting into it.

    You can try Character.ai

    ICastFist, w "Copyright fuels creativity [...] promotes free speech", heh
    @ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

    Copyright fuels a weird form of creativity, the “Original Character do not steal” that is a blatant copy of another character. It also happens in music all the time, “Original lyrics, sound and composition, do not copy”

    As for promoting free speech, yeah, no, it doesn’t. Everyone can point to a dozen videos being taken down by bogus copyright reasons, whether because it played 10 seconds of a specific music, or because the author of a piece of art disliked the video. That’s not even mentioning how you can’t (couldn’t?) use the “happy birthday” song in USA without being copyright struck.

    Micromot,

    In germany it explicitly includes that you can use as much stuff of some else if you add something or make a parody, just copying is obviously forbidden

    TheFogan,

    In the US the law does that. Even reaction videos that basically show the original are generally OK. The problem is that generally places for the general public to post things, don’t want to spend the legal costs of checking every claim. So they do a guilty until proven innocent approach where if someone has a registered business if they accuse someone it gets yanked immidiately, and then it’s up to the users to prove it’s not infringement.

    thisusernameistaken, w Usenet Providers security

    no big deal to pay with whatever. could change down the line of course. if paranoid just use crypto or mail them your payment. your providers wouldnt be my first choice, any reason you chose them?

    Jerry1098,

    I’m testing frugal right know and ist working fine but it seems to miss some content. So I took a look at the promotions page on r/Usenet and these two providers would be really cheap while being on different backbones. But I’m probably going to be alright with the yearly frugal subscription with the block account added

    thisusernameistaken,

    they all “miss” some content. if it has been taken down from usenet you may just have to look for a repost, seems like everything is reposted 8 different times. if its missing cause its to old then maybe you need the blocknews block for full retention like you said.

    crowsby, w Official Statement from Lemmy.world admin about community removal
    @crowsby@kbin.social avatar

    I see we've unfortunately brought over the trend of defaulting to assuming the worst intentions from Reddit, with a side portion of baseless accusations. While I'm disappointed that the community was removed, I think it can be easily explained by:

    • Speed Run the Content Moderation Learning Curve
    • The reality that, right or wrong, any significant legal action brought against them would be game over for the instance and personally devastating for the humans involved. Conde Nast they are not, and if Joe SIIA decides to put them in their crosshairs, the legal situation would be financially devastating.

    It's reaaaaaally really easy to sit in the peanut gallery and talk shit about how they're cowardly acquiescing when it's not our neck in the noose.

    That being said, I feel like recent acts of defederation are only serving to highlight that the way forward in the fediverse is going to be having accounts on multiple instances in order to get the full breadth of offerings. In my case:

    • I initially signed up on lemmy.ml since that was, at the time the "main" instance.
    • Oh hey, kbin looks cool. I'll sign up there and check it out.
    • Oh hey, people are saying that the lemmy.ml admins are evil commies or some shit. Welp I better make an account on lemmy.world in case anything goes sideways.
    • Oh hey, now I'm probably going to also need an account on dbzer0 as well, dope.
    sab,
    @sab@kbin.social avatar

    It honestly makes a lot of sense to keep illegal content that's the source of frequent legal actions away from the largest general purpose communities. As you correctly point out it is extremely easy to join another instance where these discussions are allowed, and the larger instances have every reason to have a "better safe than sorry" approach to content moderation.

    It seems to me the Threadiverse is too negative of the concept of defederation. It's a key concept of how the Fediverse works, and is supposed to work. The people on Lemmygrad is looking for a completely different experience from the folks over at Beehaw, so let them have it. Lemmy.world has become the largest instance, so naturally they need to have an approach to content moderation that is unlikely to land them in legal trouble. And even if they didn't, they'd be welcome to block discussions of piracy out of moral conviction or any other reason, just as their users are welcome to sign up somewhere else if they are looking for a different experience.

    There was drama about defederation on Mastodon in the beginning as well, but I guess people coming from Twitter had an easier time intuitively understanding the appeal of it.

    Check out OpenAssistant, a free to use and open source LLM based assistant. You can even run it locally so no one else can see what your doing.

    Ganbat,

    I have an R9 380 that I’m never going to be able to replace. Local isn’t really an option.

    theangriestbird,

    My experience is with gpt4all (which also runs locally), but I believe the GPU doesn’t matter because you aren’t training the model yourself. You download a trained model and run it locally. The only cap they warn you about is RAM - you’ll want to run at least 16gb of RAM, and even then you might want to stick to a lighter model.

    Ganbat,

    No, LLM text generation is generally done on GPU, as that’s rhe only way to get any reasonable speed. That’s why there’s a specifically-made Pyg model for running on CPU. That said, one generation can take anywhere from five to twenty minutes on CPU. It’s moot anyway as I only have 8GB ram.

    theangriestbird,

    I’m just telling you, it ran fine on my laptop with no discrete GPU 🤷 RAM seemed to be the only limiting factor. But yeah if you’re stuck with 8GB, it would probably be rough. I mean it’s free, so you could always give it a shot? I think it might just use your page file, which would be slow but might still produce results?
