ijeff, w CEO Bobby Kotick will leave Activision Blizzard on January 1, 2024
@ijeff@lemdro.id avatar

Great news! I’m normally not a fan of mergers but hope Microsoft will do a better job with the Blizzard IP.

thepixelfox,
@thepixelfox@kbin.social avatar

Considering Microsoft own Bethesda and they pulled the whole 'xbox and pc exclusive' bullshit. It seems like Microsoft are trying to create a monopoly of gaming companies so they can compete with and try pull people away from Sony. They hate that Sony continues to beat them in console sales.

So my concern is they're going to stop selling things on Sony, such as overwatch, diablo etc. They only promised call of duty for 10 years. I didn't read any other games with this promise in the merger deal. I honestly think it should have been blocked cause they are trying to monopolise the gaming industry and basically force a switch to their game pass or console.

Yes blizz was a shit show. But Microsoft are children who don't like that people have friends other than themselves.

Gordon_Freeman,
@Gordon_Freeman@kbin.social avatar

they pulled the whole 'xbox and pc exclusive' bullshit.

Unlike Sony that keeps launching games on Xbox /s

thepixelfox,
@thepixelfox@kbin.social avatar

I was meaning more the fact that Bethesda released on playstation until Microsoft bought them. If Bethesda only ever released on Xbox I wouldn't have an issue. But my issue is Microsoft are already pulling their bullshit with another company they acquired.

Sony has been playing this game for a longer time, as @CoderKat said, and nobody cared

Do you know Psygnosis of WipEout fame? They developed multiplatform titles for Staturn, PC and N64, when Sony aquired them that stopped (Well, they launched WipEout on the N64 and that angered Sony but they stopped after that)

Sucker Punch (Ghost of Tsushima) first game was for the N64

Guerrilla Games (Horizon Forbidden West) started developing on the Game Boy Color, and also made games for the GBA and Xbox

And a very long list of developers now owned by Sony, most of them developed for a bunch of different platforms before Sony's acquisition

But the thing is most people think those studios were created by Sony rather than purchased

CoderKat,

The frustrating thing is they’re both being shitty for consumers. It’s terrible that they’re acquiring these previously cross platform publishers and making them exclusives, but at the same time, this is what Sony has been doing for a while (at best, they very recently have started doing PC releases but with a multi year delay, which I don’t really count as truly cross platform).

ijeff,
@ijeff@lemdro.id avatar

I’m not into consoles so as long as there’s PC support, I’m good. I wouldn’t call something exclusive if it’s on PC… As long as there isn’t a crippling anti-cheat, that means it can be played on Linux!

thepixelfox,
@thepixelfox@kbin.social avatar

But there's people who don't play on pc. That's a pretty crappy thing to say. 'i don't care about it unless it affects me.'
I console game, cause I grew up on consoles, I can't do the whole sitting in a pc chair thing. There's more than just people who play pc. And if it's on pc only, that is pc exclusive.

ijeff,
@ijeff@lemdro.id avatar

Picking up a console means locking yourself down to (and supporting) a platform designed around creating exclusives. PC games aren’t locked down and can work on a much wider range of hardware and even operating systems.

I use my PC almost exclusively from the couch with my OLED TV. Sometimes from bed with a tablet on a flexible arm via Sunshine/Moonlight.

falsem, w Valve warns Counter-Strike 2 players: use AMD's Anti-Lag feature, get banned

Erroneous bans, they intend to reverse them once AMD implements a fix:

AMD's latest driver has made their "Anti-Lag/+" feature available for CS2, which is implemented by detouring engine dll functions.
If you are an AMD customer and play CS2, DO NOT ENABLE ANTI-LAG/+; any tampering with CS code will result in a VAC ban.
Once AMD ships an update we can do the work of identifying affected users and reversing their ban. @AMD

finickydesert, w Valve warns Counter-Strike 2 players: use AMD's Anti-Lag feature, get banned
@finickydesert@lemmy.ml avatar

So lag is officially part of counter strike?

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

The Anti-Lag software from AMD seems to get flagged as some sort of cheating from the Anti Cheat software by Valve, as it tempers the Counter Strike code. In other words, its not compatible. AMD should have tested and worked together with Valve, before shipping the update. It's not to blame Valve, because the Anti Cheat software works as intended, but AMD, because they did not work with Valve before launching their software.

Midnitte,
@Midnitte@kbin.social avatar

Anti-lag has been in the amd drivers for a long time. This seems more to be caused by Valve rushing CS2 out the door so the drivers couldn't be thoroughly tested.

NOTE! The content contained in this article is based on Radeon™ Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.12.1 and earlier Adrenalin Edition drivers.

conciselyverbose,

No, it's caused by AMD deciding hijacking CS's execution was acceptable.

It's more standard than standard that you can't do that in a competitive game.

conciselyverbose,

If you inject code, they ban you. Seems pretty straight forward.

They said they'll unban when they can identify them correctly, but it's not their fault.

SamXavia, w Counter-Strike 2 ending support for macOS and older PCs
@SamXavia@kbin.social avatar

It's sort of sad that Mac players won't be able to experience CS2, I have a friend who refuses to get a PC and only have a Mac and I'd love to try them out on CS2.

Apple sure didn't make it any easier for devs to continue supporting Mac.

god i love dave the diver glad to see more coming along. i need two more achievements to perfect it still, so any excuse to go back is a good one lol

ShaunaTheDead, w Dave the Diver getting crabs, lobsters, new missions, and more in October content update
@ShaunaTheDead@kbin.social avatar

I can't believe I'm saying this, but maybe they shouldn't release even more content. That game is jam packed already!

You think you're done and then BAM! you're running a fish farm and an actual farm, then BAM! you're running errands for a mermaid kingdom, BAM! you're doing a whole side quest under the ice sheet, BAM! you're opening branches of the sushi restaurant... etc, etc, etc...

I love to see a game with tons of a content but I fear they may have overdone it a bit.

roguetrick, w Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a live-action TV show

I get they're just shopping it right now, but we are seriously getting like Japan and anime with these fucking streaming live action shows. If you've got an IP that seems like it has a pulse go for it. I don't dislike the game, but the writing doesn't justify it.

Edit: Not to say that I think relying on proven showrunners and creators as a system is any better, mind you. I don't really have a solution to how these multimillion dollar productions should be put together, it just seems really vapid.

wolfshadowheart, w Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a live-action TV show
@wolfshadowheart@kbin.social avatar

This could either be really good or horrifically awful. However unlike The Witcher show, I feel like it has better chances. Source material doesn't matter too much in that V's story can be pretty dynamic with how its told and The Witcher has a very linear story line and strongly solidified characters.

Adapting existing stories and changing them has to be done really well for people to appreciate it and The Witcher just didn't have this going for it. 2077 on the other hand has so many places it could go, characters that we've yet to meet. I mean really they have all the options as long as the dialogue and delivery is done well.

StarServal,
@StarServal@kbin.social avatar

It doesn’t have to be V’s story. Like Edgerunners proved, you can tell a successful Cyberpunk 2077 story without retelling the same story.

@GizmoLion@kbin.social avatar

Tbh is the ending of this one is as uninspired as the original game, I won't be picking it up.
Game is fairly fun, gets repetitive by the end, but I'm kinda tired of games that just end unceremoniously. Looking at you too, stray.

This article isn’t entirely accurate. Trials will still require playing with other characters, and the three 24-person Crystal Tower raids that are a requirement for progressing the story also must be played with other people.

    I finally picked up a tank class… but Gunbreaker can’t enter hall of the novice.

    jemikwa,

    Take it slow at a lower level dungeon to get the feel for things. Sastasha and Tam Tara are great ones to start on. Go in with duty support NPCs if you are nervous about performing with others. In my experience, if you preface the instance with “hi bear with me, I’m new to tanking”, people are very forgiving and will even give pointers :)

    harmonea, w Final Fantasy 14's Story Can Now Be Played Entirely Solo - IGN
    @harmonea@kbin.social avatar

    Article only mentions dungeons. Did they add it for story trials too? As far as I know that's only available for early 4-player trials and a couple of very recent additions. The Chrysalis, Steps of Faith, etc can still wipe a group of human players easily if their mechanics are ignored.

    jemikwa,

    Nothing for 8-man trials. The only trial that has trusts is one in Endwalker that I’ll avoid mentioning for very obvious story spoilers.

    harmonea,
    @harmonea@kbin.social avatar

    Mhm, that's one of the "very recent additions" I meant. The other being Memoria, but that's a sidequest.

    Bit of a sensationalized headline, then. They're almost there, but not "entirely."
