I played the demo last night after seeing this post. Tbh the character design is what made me want to play, and it’s actually really fun. There are two levels you can play through, the tutorial and (what I assume might be) the first level. The tutorial is pretty short, but the level after actually has a lot, and I wasn’t expecting that. The multiplayer was actually really fun as well.
Imo the controls could be a little tighter (when you’re going around those curved tracks at top speed the guy always wants to ramp off), but that’s about my only complaint so far.
I’ve been enjoying it on Bazzite OS. When it first launched it took some tinkering to get it running stable with no black screen flickering. After a few hot fixes it started again no matter what I did until I switched to X11 instead of Wayland. Now it runs amazing. The gameplay is rough in areas but what they have so far is great. I’m looking forward to whatever UI and game mechanic improvements they introduce.
I’m really enjoying it! It has some skyrim vibes to it and the building mechanic is what I’ve been craving for so long.
One thing I don’t like is the gated progression - you need to upgrade your altar to make areas covered in “deadly shroud” turn into normal shroud and become passable. Personally I’d remove that - I want to get my ass kicked by a level 30 enemy when I’m level 5, or to sneak around them to get to the only chest that’s away from enemy routes, there is no need to put an insta death barrier before the higher level areas
It looks pretty good and I’ll most definitely try it once it’s out of early access. It kind of feels like the Renaissance of survival games or something. Especially since Blizzard just axed theirs. They’re the type of company who would completely stumble and break an ankle over a trend like this one.
I played it for hours last night, it’s like botw, vrising, soulslike, valheim. It’s very fun, but a bit tedious at least at the stage I’m at. If you’re on Linux gotta use the latest GE or it may crash your DE.
The graphics look just as good in my eyes, it just looks like the trailer used more flattering shots compared to proper gameplay. Still looks great, honestly.
All the numbered personas are independent from each other. There are some games that are basically fan-servicey crossovers (Persona 4 Arena, Persona Q), so I recommend starting with either 3(Portable), 4(Golden) or 5(Royal). You can pick just one and go!
Depending on how you’re feeling:
Persona 3 has an amazing moody vibe to it: I’m sadly afraid it’ll be a little toned down in the remake in favor of something more akin to P5. It can be grindy, but you can play it on easy if you can’t be bothered. Maybe it’s because it’s the first one I played, but I still deem it my absolute favorite of the tree.
Persona 4 is something of an in-between, but a banger nonetheless. It’s a game in which the usually upbeat soundtrack is placed in direct contrast to a mysterious foggy countryside town.
Persona 5 is, in terms of gameplay and fluidity, the absolute best. I highly suggest you NOT to start here simply because after you get used to the gameplay of P5, dealing with P3/P4 will be slightly harder imo; those are still highly relevant to play nonetheless: they all have very different stories, very different characters, some may be for you while others may be not. For me, P5’s story tried to be so grand that it failed in delivering the same “personal connection” that the player could feel with P3/P4. Or maybe I grew out of highschool settings by the time P5 came around, who knows.
