I just started playing this yesterday. It’s super fun and gorgeous. It’s pretty janky and simple but 100% worth playing.
It really leans into a lot of things that make the genre great and pays homage to the ones that came before. I see a lot of Elder Scrolls and Witcher 3 influences. I truly believe this would be GotY contender if it had a AAA budget.
MS-DOS games are pretty much what GOG built their business on, they still sell quite well. 50’s music is still listened by many (over 57 million views on that one song alone), and often used in movies, though that’s a bit of an odd comparison, almost as if old things aren’t worth keeping around. I mean, people still listen to classical music that’s hundreds of years old at this point, read ancient stories, and look at art from artists long dead. I consider games to be an art form like any other, and worth preserving.
I love that mechanic. It forces the players movement to be more strategic while ramping up the tension. “I have to look away to get around this obstacle, can I do it quick? How close will it be when I look back?” Then you get stuck on something and it’s like “shitshitshit”
Well needed to be honest. I love the original trilogy but they could do with a fresh coat of paint. I wish they’d touched up the animations too, the gunplay of the originals can feel quite… early 00’s.
Ok so we got a regular GTA story with humour, 2 main characters in relationship (maybe another playable one?) and hopefully a detailed open world to do side activities in. Looks good enough for me. Just make it at least as good as RDR2 and you have my money.
