You will play Fear&Hunger and feel true horror, you will play the lisa series and the masterfully fan made side stories and it’ll change you forever . You will play off and find sense in it’s nonsense.
Not OP, but for me, it was gameplay. I’ve tried multiple times to get into that game, but the gameplay just detracts so heavily from it (for me personally) that I haven’t been able to get into or enjoy (if ‘enjoy’ is even the right word) the story.
There’s no shame in cheating. While some people enjoy the hardcore gameplay it’s not for everybody.
While i think the devs should always give the player an easy mode to enjoy the story and world, it’s possible to cheat just enough to make the gameplay more bearable while not destroying the gameplay.
Personally it's more the story for me. Not only it deals with some heavy themes, it's such a constant descent of things getting worse and worse and worse, full of pretty much arbitrary misery, that at some point I just don't feel motivated to keep going.
For what is worth I can agree that calling it the Painful RPG is on point.
I can handle turn-based RPGs, even difficult ones. I do like OFF a whole lot. It's surreal setting and mysterious quest was much more compelling for me.
I totally understand. For lisa, The story is heavy, too heavy even. But it’s something we usually shield ourselves from, something we read about on a news article, feel all kinds of emotions but just try to forget later. I think lisa engrain it in our minds and makes us be more understanding of the pain of these people.
You won't regret it. It's one of those games that I still think about even a year after playing it. It has some flaws, and as said isn't for everyone, but it is a top 10 game for me, and anyone with similar taste will probably appreciate it as well.
Warning: all of those games contain stuff that can fuck you up if you’re not expecting them, so check trigger warnings as required. That said, I’d also add OMORI and Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass to the list - IMO they are much better than OFF as both games and stories while playing with similar themes.
Its looking really good except for the price. I don’t want to pay full triple A price for a game that’s going to lock key features behind dlc down the road.
Eh, it’s $50 on Steam. I dropped something like 300 hours into CS1 before any DLC. Even if I got half that out of CS2, I’m fine paying roughly 33¢ an hour for a great experience.
To give credit to CS, Its been out for 7 years at this point, and they have maintained updates for the core game. In addition, they have not locked any “critical” functionality behind a DLC, but rather, the DLCs just gave the game a different experience.
As many hours as I have dumped into the original, I’d feel MUCH better paying 60$ for it, as opposed to half of the AAA crap out there, where I might be lucky to get 40 hours of gameplay.
What kind of games have you seen doing 80€? Only I can imagine ever getting away with it are games that are super specific and specialized so they know they won’t have much buisness and need to charge that just to break even (such as some simulators), and games like FIFA where the people who play it have brand loyalty such that it’s kind of like they have a form of retard strength.
Unless there’s some kind of permanent DLC pass bundle available at launch, I’ll try* to wait for it to go on sale for ~$40 before buying the base game. Do Paradox games ever even offer these kinds of options? I know they offer bundles like this for older games, but what about new ones?
*the amount of playtime I’ve gotten out of the original, even before DLC was available, means there is a very good chance I’ll crack.
This is amazing. I think I watched this live at the time. I’ll always remember the “based on famous battles” line followed by footage of soldiers fighting a giant crab!
I really hope that Austin will make his voice heard a bit more even after ShillUp returns from his break. This seems like a pretty well reasoned review.
Thank you for the transcript! I hate watching videos when I can read their content faster, and I will usually not bother to go to youtubetranscript.com.
OP mentioned it first. I’m just thanking them for giving me that so I don’t have to do any work to search it out myself. I’m not paid to do any advertising for this website.
This is probably my first accusation of being an advertiser. I’ve seen other people get accused of advertising or being shills before and saw that it was pretty difficult for the person to convince others they were just a regular human person without any motives. I’d prefer if you thought I was a normal human, considering I bothered to defend myself, but feel free to think I’m an advertiser I guess?
Gotta say, I appreciate the level of commitment. That bit at the end probably wouldn’t have worked if he didn’t have a baby for the video. Very few YouTubers who are that dedicated to their videos that they do that.
Definitely check out the first Darkwood! It’s story, atmosphere, and sound design are all amazing (here’s a good video essay if you don’t plan on playing). The lore stays fascinating if you want to do an even deeper dive. Zero jumpscares. I don’t want to say what the game’s about because it’s best going in not knowing anything.
It’s not 343, most of that leadership has left or fired. It’s Halo Studios now, game runs UE for graphics and the Blam! engine underneath for AI and everything else.
Yes, it is still 343. “Halo Studios” has most of the same people working at it as 343. Literally 343 wearing Mustache Glasses.
They changed their studio name because the 343 reputation was so bad, they needed to try to trick consumers into thinking the next Halo game wasnt made by them to get any sales.
Had this on my watch list for a long time and every new video it keeps looking better. I’m still of two minds about the black-and-white - I get the idea and it works for the theme but I can’t decide if it’s worth it or if I miss the detail color would add. But at the same time maybe it would make it too bright and cheerful for the setting and story?
Still looks super cool and I’m looking forward to playing it.
I just warned them of how the next-gen patch broke the game on consoles and Bethesda refused to fix it even after modders showed them how. Did they ever fix it? It was so bad that some stores (like GOG) refused to carry the next-gen patch, or at least they made it optional. I still have Fallout 4 SPECIAL pre-next-gen. And I can play it on Mac. ;) (I also own it on Xbox, but it’s unplayable there.)
I’ve played kingdom hearts last year for the first time ever. I played them all in order of release on the (emulated) console. This year I started them on PS5 remastered. Somehow playing it on the OG hardware was a better experience.
