paraphrand, do games w Xbox fans are compiling lists of all the Activision, Bethesda, and Microsoft games still missing from Xbox Game Pass — and it's pretty huge

The oligopolies rarely buy out smaller companies and keep to promises, or let those companies do what they did best.

They buy them to control competition.

Not putting these titles on their service isn’t a tactic to control competition, but it is indicative of their lack of giving a shit about what they have hoarded.

Just consider what you’re up against - the first one was 7.49€ (the lowest I’ve seen) and I haven’t bought it yet simply because I have too many games to play for years now. I certainly won’t pay more than 10€ for the original or the sequel and I’d never pay MS for their shitty subscription.

RightHandOfIkaros, do games w Hotly anticipated 'Black Myth: Wukong' is delayed on Xbox Series X|S — and now, Microsoft has responded

Sony needs to be punished for this trash. No chance that this wasn’t the result of Sony paying money to prevent this from dropping on Xbox.

It’s anti-consumer and needs to stop.

Sony no longer needs to convince anyone to give beneficial treatment to PlayStation because Xbox failed so hard. You can complain about exclusivity deals Sony made with a few publishers all you want, the fact is that only Microsoft is to blame for not developing any 1st party games people want. Xbox flat lined so hard, it’s a genuine “why waste money on porting and QA?” at this point.

Games like God of War drive platform sales. The few good games out of Microsoft are usually better on Windows anyway, so really no need to get an Xbox at all.

    RightHandOfIkaros,

The problem is if Sony has a monopoly on the premium console market, they can charge any number they want and consumers have no other option. Less competition always means prices go up.

Sony’s practice of paying money not for exclusivity for their platform, just to stop developers from developing for Xbox for a period of time, is anti-consumer and needs to stop.

The problem is if Sony has a monopoly on the premium console market

“premium console” is such a weird qualifier to get around the fact that Nintendo Switch is the best selling console and Sony has no monopoly anywhere. Microsoft is the company that bought Activision-Blizzard, Bethesda, Minecraft, and more. They are the one with anti-consumer practices, scooping up everything with their money from their Windows and Office monopolies. You’re just bitter because you sank a lot of money into a bad system nobody likes. It really is not Sony’s fault that everybody wants God of War, Spider-Man, etc. and nobody wants mediocre games like Starfield, Redfall, Halo, etc.

Blame Microsoft for promoting the Series S to customers as being identical to Series X, other than games are just lower resolution and lacking a disk drive. It is Microsoft’s fault that the performance profiles of their two distinct consoles is that the Series S cannot play Baldur’s Gate multiplayer and that the policies prevented Larian to port their game to Xbox until they got a special exemption for feature disparity. It is Microsoft’s fault that the proclaimed 1440p system (Series S) needs further resolution, graphics quality, and framerate downgrades compared to Series X. It’s Microsoft who don’t even care that much about Xbox because all their games are better of Microsoft’s other platform (Windows) anyway.

    About time

spacedogroy, do gaming w Xbox's biggest crisis right now isn't games. It's hardware. (Opinion - Jez Corden)

I don’t think it’s hardware, more brand and exclusives. The casual player bought a PlayStation 4, so they buy a PlayStation 5. The gaming enthusiast knows that there’s just more varied and interesting games coming out on Sony’s platform. In terms of performance, the Xbox also frequently under performs against the PS5 regularly (not by significant margins usually, but still) when on paper it should be the more powerful console.

Myself, I have an Xbox Series S along with a crappy old 1080p plasma and 3 years of Game Pass, and I’m at a time in my life where I don’t have the time I used to to play loads of games all the time. I’m happy with the Series S, but if you’re coming fresh to this generation of consoles, I can’t see why you wouldn’t just buy PS5 as that’s where the games are.

Are xbox games typically available on steam deck, or would you specifically need a windows system?

    spacedogroy,

A lot of Xbox exclusives are available on Windows, yes, but Steam Deck compatibility is something you’d need to check on a game by game basis.

I don't know, I think a rag calling itself Windows Central might have a bias towards Microsoft...

Even the tone of the article sounds like their arms are tired from carrying their water.

One thing after another, Microsoft is forced to respond time and time again to ongoing rumors that it's leaving the hardware space.

A new Xbox rumor started this weekend that's now blown out of proportion, as usual.

RightHandOfIkaros, do games w Microsoft is closing down Xbox studio The Initiative, with Perfect Dark killed as well — joining Everwild and ZeniMax's new IP, and other unannounced projects

Honestly? Its kinda good Perfect Dark was cancelled.

When MS first showed Perfect Dark, there was nothing of substance really to base any expectations on. Except previous games, which were only ever “okay.” But the second time they showed it, with their idea of gameplay, it looked bad. It didn’t look like what one would expect from Perfect Dark, it looked like some weird hybrid between Battlefield/Call of Duty, Mirror’s Edge, and a high tech cyberpunk game.

Perfect Dark was really only ever “that game Rare made because they weren’t allowed to make GoldenEye 2.” It wasn’t really revolutionary or prolific or anything, unlike GoldenEye.

Its better that it stays the way it was than be ruined by whatever it was going to be cobbled into. I am kinda shocked it took MS this long to cancel it.
