This movie should be a public service announcement, freely available for everyone around the world. Unfortunately it appears to not be easily accessible. Shame.
The most recent gameplay reveal was a massive step down in terms of visuals, Compared to previous videos… (Which may have been bullshot?)
Current graphics made it look like a remaster of STALKER Gamma. (STALKER 1) Hopefully they saw the criticism on the lack of modernized visual fidelity and are working on this.
So just stating the obvious, as it’s on a technical platform. So are they running an AI that made this ad and put it into a directory that was accessible by the game services runtimes? Or….did you get caught trying some dodgy shit in a fully paid product. It’s more morally right to have a cracked backup of everything of theirs you own or don’t because in their eyes you clearly don’t own what you paid for.
Even taken at face value, it means that they purposely built the ability to have an ad pop up not just on the main menu screen, but anywhere... or at least (giving them a strong benefit of the doubt) on the map screen.
The "error" was that someone popped it into the "show up on map" area of their code and not the "show up on the main menu" area of their code... but the bigger, more glaring problem is that it is even allowed to be a thing that exists as an option.
So even with all that allowance, the fact that it can be a thing is absolutely terrible and it doesn't matter that it happened as an accident, but it shouldn't be an option regardless... is the point of my rambling.
I love the idea. Worker co-ops and subscription-based news (just like a newspaper) are both perfect models for this. I’m a big proponent for and supporter of the Patreon model for small creators.
…But I read through their articles and they’re just not in sync with my taste in gaming. I think they need more writers who are into sandboxes and sims, because they all seem super into smaller, narrative-core games, and somewhat derisive of open worlds that don’t hyper focus on a story.
I mean, it certainly looks nicer. At least they’re thinking about ways to make the experience better, for those that use it.
I’m still really happy with SteamOS, the only real downside is that newer AAA games are simply too demanding. Not so much of a problem on the desktop, but certain games just look rough and run at sub-30 fps.
