TrontheTechie, do gaming w Official Minecraft wiki editors so furious at Fandom's 'degraded' functionality and popups they're overwhelmingly voting to leave the site

Tell me the irony isn’t lost on anyone else that this website article about users being frustrated by min maxing profits and inorganic design language is designed exactly like the kind of site that they are talking about.

weksa,

I clicked just to see. You’re absolutely right.

TrontheTechie,

I originally tried posting a picture, but I think my instance dropped support for right now because of the recent attacks.

Edit: I got the picture posted for those who don’t want phone cancer. https://i.imgur.com/crPuuIJ.jpg

Yep, that website is barely readable. Thank god for reader mode though

Oh, it was annoying me recently, so I turned off JavaScript, and it’s great again.
I’m very glad, that people finally call those sites on their bullshit, and hopefully reclaim the internet.

EDIT: removed stray ‘with’

UprisingVoltage,

Yeah, me too. It’s so much better with js off

Stardew Valley did the right thing by self hosting a wiki, makes it both official and independent

Smokeless7048,

Several have, including the old school RuneScape wiki!

Now there’s two, and one is far more content full

Lol, they moved out from Reddit and now they moved out from Fandom.

But their solution could be as simple as make their own wiki.

Path of Exile did the same thing, going from fandom to poewiki.net. And thank god they did, fuck fandom

Going to Fandom is like visiting a annoying dying person because they hold the hidden information.

Fandom is barely usable at this point. I feel like they're just relying on no one wanting to put in the effort of coordinating a migration elsewhere.

please, fandom is one of the worst sites on the internet

subtext,

When the old school RuneScape wiki moved to a self hosted solution it was night and day the quality difference. I’d argue that OSRS (and probably regular RS) have some of the best wikis in gaming.

Here’s the account, because I spent longer than necessary trying to find it in the article. mastodon.social/@dungeons

This gives off Twitch Plays Pokemon energy. I love it.

Okay, this seems to be horrible and not at all as good as it could be.

Where do I sign up?

I signed up for Mastadon a while back and barely used it so far, but I am running over there right now for this lol

This is absolutely something I would expect to come out of the Mastodon community, and I’m all for it.

MagicShel, do gaming w Diablo 4 Season 1—Season of the Malignant details | PC Gamer

I’ve enjoyed the occasional season in Diablo 3 (and I’ve taken years long beaks), and I do enjoy leveling up just for the sake of trying new things, but while I play a lot I’m still pretty casual. Every three months seems a pretty quick cadence to have to start new characters. My highest character is only level 60 I and I haven’t even seen tier IV yet. I’m going to spend all my time chasing after rewards that I have no time to enjoy. Not the battle pass stuff - I’m just talking about trouncing the endgame with massively overpowered characters, which is really what I’ve played Diablo for since the first one was released.

I generally only play seasonal to enjoy the new mechanics, but 3 months makes it feel more like a job than fun. Obviously I’ll give it a chance and see how it goes - maybe it won’t be as bad as I fear. Anyone else? Is this just me? Is someone afraid they’d get bored with 6 month seasons?

Although it is reallt cool, I wouldn’t go so far as calling it a campaign. It looks like you just fight monster after monster and that’s it

Grimpen,

I mean, that sounds like the D&D I played in Grade 7.

dom,

Eh, even then im sure there was “go to this room” or “buy this from the merchant”

It wasn’t just

“Figjt monster”

“OK he’s dead, new monster”

“Fight monster”

Grimpen,

Fair enough. I absolutely remember running randomly generated dungeons from the back of the 1st edition DM’s guide, and the players dutifully mapping it out on graph paper. No cohesive dungeon theme, just all random monsters and such.

It was kind of fun, like playing Diablo.

Of course this also reminds me of the first time I ran Pacesetters Chill. A single monster… investigations, a false finish. My player’s loved it. This Dungeon Bot is the complete opposite that, for sure, but it’s still kind of fun, like just mowing through random monsters.

dom,

I now want to make like a legit action text adventure for mastodon that has things like coheiege dungeon, a story etc

Grimpen,

I think a “Choose Your Own Adventure” or even a “Fighting Fantasy” gamebook style poll based account would be workable…

How hard could it be? I’ve never really thought about what goes into one of these automated accounts.
