It’s like all we heard about the PS5 was that it was super hard to get when it came out and then it kind of disappeared from our collective consciousness
XBox has always been a weird console. It never really competes with Nintendo because NIntendo always does its own general thing and also slides neatly into the kids and family market. So it competes with Playstation by default. Except Playstation actually has contracts with good studios to make exclusive games. What’s a non-Halo exclusive for the XBox? Back in the day, you’d play games like Gears of War, Halo (obviously), Fallout 3, Psychonauts, KOTOR, COD, etc. I can’t think of a single meaningful game on the most recent generation for the XBox.
I’ve seen them stocked in my local stores for the past year. The Xbox series X/S as well. I kinda thought it was like that everywhere now? Are they really still sold out and being scalped for crazy mark up prices where you live?
I have a ps1, 2, 3 and 4, a psp, a vita, I also have a NA snes, OG xbox, xbox360 and xbox one. I pretty much don’t play with any of them, I work too much…
I own an Xbox Series (got it for free, you can’t argue with that), but still will wait for the PC port. I don’t think it will take 3 years before it comes to PC, especially not in todays landscape with a strong PC in Gaming overall. They surely are already working in a way to enable such a port. So 1 year from console release date seems to be realistic.
I had a lot of fun with my Vita even without hacking it. It had a longer lifetime than people realize, in part through digital sales and indie games that were planning to do PS3/PS4 releases anyway.
When a new generation starts, I hook it up in the living room, move the previous gen to the bedroom, and mothball the oldest gen.
So when I kick off, my kid, or grand kids, are going to discover organized boxes of gaming gear. I’m sure it will be all over whatever passes for social media then. :)
Currently:
Living Room - PS5, Xbox Series X, Steam Deck Dock.
I just got a second one because it was peanuts and came with two good controllers while mine are all kind of subtly broken.
I do actually have a PS4 with 5 controllers because once bit. I don’t know if I’ll find the time, but if I feel like playing something stuck on the three like infamous or demons souls, I can.
Maybe I’ll get the 5 one day. And maybe I’ll find that emulation can solve the old title problem.
If they would make them backwards compatible I would be more likely to upgrade it still bugs me that they stopped doing that. I miss my old PS3. That thing was awesome I even installed Linux on it and had emulators working… the good old days.
Yeah my mistake. It is with ps3 games. My default is to think everything is terrible now. It wouldn’t be that hard to support back to ps1 I’d pay extra for the option.
The only reason they are going to New Vegas for season 2, is to lay down a whole bunch of Bethesda-fied revisionist history about the whole Nevada area.
They would want to torch the playing field, and make creating a New Vegas 2 that is worth a damn impossible, in anticipation of the possibility Microsoft might put Obsidian on Fallout too, after Outer Worlds 2.
After the studio closures Microsoft just did? Todd is probably, and absolutely justifiably, scared shitless with Obsidian and MGM Amazon’s ‘friendly’ competition.
Don’t you know Bethesda? They won’t even fix bugs that are thoroughly documented by the community and take 5 minutes to fix. They’re not going to fix a game that is missing entire features.
Starfield can’t be fixed. The game’s issues are rooted in its core - procedurally generated maps, zero-consequence writing, forgettable gunplay. They could fix stuff like base building, giving it an actual purpose, for example. But in order to make exploration and role playing interesting/fun they’d have to effective make a whole new game.
I’m still optimistic. No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk, and Fallout 76 took their heaping trash and glued things until it became fun. And Starfield has a lot of really good working pieces that can be salvaged.
But you might also be right. I can’t imagine Bethesda fixing quests or narrative elements.
Cyberpunk had a good story and characters, and basis for a game it just was rushed lut the door unfinished. They actually care about making No Man’s Sky better and delivering on their initial promise, then surpassing it when they initially failed and let everyone down. Bethesda doesn’t care. They just want money. They aren’t going to even consider making starfield a good game unless They add an atom shop first and stuff to spend the money on
I’m far from an expert with mod development, but this seems like the best way out of the mess they’ve put themselves in. I think modders would come in droves if they made it really easy
Todd Howard: we hear you fans, we are currently working on updates for Morrowind, Starfield and Elder Scrolls Online which will break add-on/mod support and ruin the frame rate for those games instead of just FO4!
Are you familiar with Tamriel Rebuilt? The team has been adding content to the mainland of Morrowind for 20 years. They’re technically not finished, but there’s plenty to do.
