Rouxibeau, do games w Acclaimed roguelike studio behind Slay the Spire releases new deckbuilder after publicly abandoning Unity over fee debacle

How would I run this on Steam Deck?

simple,

I believe you can download the linux version from the game’s page, extract and run it in desktop mode.

poke,

If you add it as a non steam game you can play it in the regular interface, too.

mojo,

Godot has the best Linux support out of all popular game engines. Really depends on the controls really. But they could easily release a native Linux version, or proton is so good that I’d just assume a windows version would be flawless as well.

BadLackey, (edited ) do games w BioWare vet says Mass Effect and Dragon Age got "too homogenous," wishes Dragon Age had been more "Neverwinter-like"

I would pay good money for a stand-alone ME3 Multiplayer remake with all the bugs fixed, new maps, and less BS grind. I think I put almost 2000 hours into the multiplayer and still don’t have all the guns unlocked/upgraded

mojo, do xbox w Starfield surpasses 6 million players to become Bethesda's best launch yet, beating Skyrim and Fallout

Haven’t tried it yet, too many good games came out recently. It’s on my wishlist though so hopefully it goes on Steam sale soon

sylverstream, do xbox w This website has the interactive Starfield maps that should've been in the game

Thanks @AlexanderTheGreat that’s exactly what I needed! I really miss mini maps. Hopefully they will add that soon to the game itself.

M137,

There will surely be mods for that soon. I doubt they’ll add one officially. One good thing about Bethesda games is that basically everything people want can and will become mods.

AlexanderTheGreat,
@AlexanderTheGreat@lemmy.world avatar

I needed something as well so I’m glad Map Genie map some maps!

Star_FOX_dew_HOUND, do gaming w The Metal Gear Solid Collection is so true to Hideo Kojima's "original vision" that it needed a new content warning

I have such an issue supporting Konami after all that shit storm with Kojima. But I care too much for these games to not buy it.

I just re-played mgs1 on my ps1 a few months ago. Curious how they will do the mantis battle, and “turn to page 16 in the game manual for frequency number” type meta stuff.

I still just enjoy anything Kojima, and choose to support generally anything he has a hand in. So ultimately I don’t feel too awful pre ordering this set. But still FucKonami.

BartsBigBugBag, do gaming w The Metal Gear Solid Collection is so true to Hideo Kojima's "original vision" that it needed a new content warning

It’s been years since I played it, and it was only one time since it’s basically a demo, what happens at the end of MGS Ground Zeroes?

heartlessevil,

They torture a woman by sticking a bomb up her ass and then making a child fuck her

BartsBigBugBag,

Oh man, I don’t know how I forgot that visceral image. Though I kinda wish I’d kept my mouth closed and never remembered lmao. Thank you!

And then Smash referenced it with a spirit battle in Ultimate.

heartlessevil,

No, it’s actually two bombs. They manage to take out one. The girl is Paz and the boy is Chico.

The_Hunted_One, (edited )
@The_Hunted_One@beehaw.org avatar

I remember the bomb, but not the second part. I’ll go looking for if there’s any mentions or reference to that, but if you have one handy, that’d be helpful.

Edit: Big yikes. It’s found in the audio logs. Not the act itself, but it’s pretty heavily insinuated in a monologue from the bad guy that he’s going to force it to happen.

NuPNuA,

I’m pretty sure it was in her Uterus rather than up the Arse wasn’t it?

davidisgreat, do games w The Metal Gear Solid Collection is so true to Hideo Kojima's "original vision" that it needed a new content warning

What is the “stepfamily incest subplot”? I don’t recall that at all. When I search for it I just find this very same article.

MinorityReportingIn,

I believe that’s referring tothe whole relationship between Otacon and Emma and Otacon and his stepmom in MGS2. The backstory where Otacon slept with his stepmom while he was a minor causing his dad to drown himself in the pool and probably the fact that his step sister was in love with him.

davidisgreat,

I forgot about that

MeaanBeaan,

Yeah… MGS2 certainly is something…

magic_lobster_party, do games w The Metal Gear Solid Collection is so true to Hideo Kojima's "original vision" that it needed a new content warning

vlad76,
@vlad76@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Well, I’m glad that they’re not butchering it like other games, but still this is just stupid.

magic_lobster_party,

I think this kind of content warnings kind of makes sense for children’s television. But these are games primarily targeted towards adults. We’re able to form our own opinion.

PeachMan,
@PeachMan@lemmy.one avatar

Uhhhhh I first played Sons of Liberty when I was like 12 lol. Video games can and will be played by children.

magic_lobster_party,

They can, but MGS2 is rated M as far as I can tell.

bighi,

Isn’t a warning good for that, though?

A warning helps you make an informed decision.

nevemsenki, (edited )

When everything has a label, all labels are ignored.

Like This chemical has been proven to cause cancer in the state of California, literally plastered on everything.

bighi,

If there’s no label, the option to not ignore it isn’t even there.

If you guys are really in favor of adults being able to make their own informed decisions, hiding important warnings is not the way to go. Or maybe you just want to complain, like many other people.

Make up your mind.

nevemsenki,

I design and operate monitoring systems, and let me tell you, information fatigue is a real thing. Warning labels make sense when sensibly used; otherwise people get conditioned to ignore them, even if they would be crucial. Think of road signs: if there was a speed limit of 10 before every turn, all speed limits would soon lose credibility.

Hardest part of the job is actually learning which alerts we need to keep and which to trim… if we simply slap warnings on everything, everyone would ignore them soon enough.

vlad76,
@vlad76@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I’ve been an adult for a little while now and I can confirm: Adults don’t exist. We’re all children with various levels of impulse control. But it is frustrating when you feel like you’re being treated like a child. The reason I learned not to repeat swear words on TV wasn’t because they took all the swear words out. It’s because I repeated them, got in trouble, and learned my lesson. So, I’m not against it, but it shouldn’t be news worthy that someone chose not to butcher prior art.

Fuck me I sound like I’m 60.

TheHobbyist,

I think it’s a reasonable middle ground. Much better than outright removing the content and the warning…

vlad76,
@vlad76@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I think it’s stupid that this behavior is considered worthy of an article. This is how we should be handling this all the time. If the values change, then update the content rating, but don’t touch the content. And for some reason the norm right now is to completely memory hole anything that doesn’t fit the values. I should have been clearer with my comment.

Maven,
@Maven@lemmy.world avatar

Unrelated to video games but Taylor Swift has a song where she threatens to tell the friends of her Ex that he’s gay for breaking up with her. This has since been replaced entirely with a new line and can’t be found on anything but the original 2006 release.

aloeha,

She changed the lyrics of a song called Better Than Revenge where she basically calls a girl who “stole” her man a whore.

vlad76,
@vlad76@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Can you still legally obtain a copy of the 2006 version? Because with music, if it’s a separate release, it doesn’t affect the past work. This is all, obviously, just my opinion. I feel that games suffer from the effects of this more because often when a “remaster” comes out for a 15 year old game, then it’s the only way to play it, because there’s no legal way to obtain a new copy of the old version.

Now that I think about I think the real difference is that games and other software require constant support, then music audio files don’t. Most people do consume music from a streaming platform, but you can still buy most of it in a physical format that you then are allowed to content shift to a format you can actually play. And theoretically once the copyright runs out, it can be shared. Although Disney has been ruining that for a while now. Games, for the most part are less “stable”. And since there’s almost no legal protection for people sharing old dead games, then the remasters can effectively erase prior art if they change content.

IWW4, do games w Dragon Age veteran says scrapped Anthem Next "could have been" up there with No Man's Sky's legendary turnaround

But Dragon Age sucked ass.

Soupbreaker,

I mean, the first one was good. It was all downhill from there, sadly. The second was decent, but suffered from a ton of re-used assets and a dumbed-down combat system. By the third, it seemed like they were trying to make a single-player MMO, which just made no damned sense to me. Never played the 4th. Maybe I’ll get it for free at some point and check it out.

Disagree origins was the only good one.

moakley, do games w Dragon Age veteran says scrapped Anthem Next "could have been" up there with No Man's Sky's legendary turnaround

Honestly Anthem was so fucking good. It’s a victim of the internet hate machine.

My hobby is video games, but some people’s hobby is hating things, and those people decided that Anthem was the next thing to hate. The hate was insanely disproportionate to the actual problems that Anthem had.

The endgame grind needed some work, but that’s always the case with a live service game. Comparing it to Destiny, which had been out for five years at that point, there wasn’t a lot of content. Comparing it to video games in general, it was fine. Easily worth the cost of a new game.

Graphics-wise? Top notch, triple-A.

And as far as gameplay, the actual most important part of a game? Anthem was a fucking masterpiece. The combat was fun and varied. Classes were distinct.

And the traversal was the best I’ve ever played. Soaring through the air like Iron Man and dipping into a waterfall so my suit doesn’t overheat is one of the video game highlights of my life.

But the internet ruined it. The same outrage machine that was built to respond to things like “a sense of pride and accomplishment” was turned on Anthem, not because it was that bad, but because there wasn’t anything else particularly hate-worthy that week.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

It’s got a 61 on OpenCritic, and Brad Shoemaker of NextLander said he thought long and hard about giving it 1/5 stars at the time (ultimately giving it a 2/5) because the game didn’t even really work when it launched. That wouldn’t really indicate it was just something the internet wanted to hate that week.

bytesonbike,

I don’t think we played the game because Anthem was boring. I enjoyed being Iron Man but after an hour. But after that, it was kinda same ol’ for the next few hours.

I had more fun with Suicide Squad, because the city was awesome and the story was at least passable.

I did like the first hour - no question. But I think Anthem needed to cook some more. A lot more.

collapse_already,

I think the worst thing BioWare did was ban people for loot exploiting when all they were doing was flying around in a loop collecting chests as they spawned. The players weren’t doing anything the game didn’t allow and banning them really created vitriol in the community. When added to the lack of end game, the player base just never got any growth momentum. It was really sad, because I was a huge BW fan and that game plus the loss of the Doctors really wrecked them (thanks EA /s). You could see the potential in Anthem, but it felt like a a great game engine waiting for the game to be written for it (honestly similar to pre-Forsaken Destiny 2, but even that had more content).

otacon239, do games w Dragon Age veteran says scrapped Anthem Next "could have been" up there with No Man's Sky's legendary turnaround

I’ve watched a few videos on the game and with this claim, I think they would have needed the ten years that NMS had, but there just isn’t as much of a unique idea underneath. Unless I was missing something Anthem was just a really pretty looter shooter with a cool suit.

It’s a pretty game, I’ll give it that, but they would have had to strip and rebuild the gameplay loop pretty much from scratch to make it that much of a success story.

bytesonbike,

Agreed!

NMS kept listening to feedback for years before it turned around, slowly building up good faith with each free release.

But let’s say Anthem Next magically turned it around. All that good faith will be gone when EA will try to shoehorn more looter shooter microtransaction BS and fuck everything up over and over again.
