Sho, do games w Starfield Is Bethesda's Lowest-Rated Game On Steam

As to be expected from Todd “it just works” Howard 🙄 He has this weird ability to snatch failure from the jaws of success alot of the time.

Zdvarko, do games w Starfield Is Bethesda's Lowest-Rated Game On Steam

No surprise, if they had only upgraded their game engine so you didn’t have so many cut scenes would have been much better.

kurcatovium,

By cut scenes you mean loading screens, right? Right!?

Zdvarko,

Yeah that

mnemonicmonkeys,

Actually, a surprising number of areas with doors or fast travel between them don’t need it. The entirety of New Atlantis’s exterior is a single cell. Same with Neon

kiranraine, do gaming w GameStop Boss Says Disc Drives Should Be Required On Game Consoles

I can see them forced to have some form of resellable media Ala switch maybe. But disc’s as others have stated I think are on the way out. Esp bc they’re so easily scratched and everything else…like good for a time but should’ve had something else come in once cartridges caught back up in price. They were always quicker by a long shot…it’s just that memory prices weren’t there in the 90s or until now even really. If I don’t like or don’t want a game I want some way to sell it off and can’t do that digitally bc they won’t equate it to the same thing as selling a used copy XD

isVeryLoud,

I want a return to cartridges, like the switch.

kiranraine,

Same tbh…

nodiet,

I have never ever managed to scratch a disc to the point where it became unusable. Neither have I ever had problems when buying used discs. I agree about the speed though; at this point my internet speed surpasses the speed with which games are installed from a disc

kiranraine,

I mean I’ve bought plenty that were scratched but still worked. Only one that didn’t really was the twilight princess we found randomly in my church parking lot when I was younger. I just don’t like the speed since no one seems to get nailing down loading times. I’d love something Ala switch games tho…

Or at the very least, add a way to sideload DRM-free games. That’s why I love my PS3, WiiU and even my Switch to an extent.

angstylittlecatboy, (edited ) do gaming w GameStop Boss Says Disc Drives Should Be Required On Game Consoles

I don’t disagree (or at least there should be a disc drive-included version and the ability to connect any USB Blu-Ray drive,) but obviously GameStop has a motive here.

And I think disc based games should have a legal requirement to have a playable version of the game on disc.

GameStop is terrible for the industry. GameStop is chock full of terrible business practices. Fuck GameStop.

He’s only saying this about disc drives because six months ago he was saying “You’ll be buying all your games as NFTs from GameStop!” (notice he didn’t give one fuck about physical media six months ago?) and then when that went tits up and they closed their cryptocoin and NFT wallets, they need another way to get people to keep buying stocks. They’ve got those Gamestonk idiots still in a frenzy and they haven’t yet woken up to being taken for a ride since the NFT dream turned bust.

wtfeweguys,

What cryptocoin?

dingus, (edited )
@dingus@lemmy.ml avatar

arstechnica.com/…/gamestop-citing-regulatory-unce…

They were selling the idea to Superstonk investment idiots that the “future” of game sales was in NFTs where you would “really own your copy of the game.” Which… to anyone who knows how NFTs really work is such a sick fucking joke as to pawn that idea off on to consumers.

wtfeweguys,

I ask again. What cryptocoin?

wtfeweguys,

Nvm I misread your initial comment as saying they were shutting down their cryptocoin (as in a coin they launched themselves). Seems they’re shutting down the wallet bc it’s the most vulnerable to violating the vague regulations currently in place. They’ve still got the marketplace and recently announced a project called PlayR that looks to be a game streaming platform.

How do their gamepads compare to the DualSense? They‘re in the same price range after all.

dualpad,

Unless you need the touchpad and resistance triggers I’ve come to prefer the Ultimate 2 wireless over the dualsense.

Has TMR sticks, extra bumper buttons, back buttons, and charging dock. Got firmware update to allow the extra buttons to be remappable through Steam Input too.

Don’t see myself considering a PlayStation controller on the PC unless future versions start coming with hall effect or TMR sticks, and even then with them charging double the price for paddle buttons it is a hard sell over third party controller options on the PC.

atrielienz, (edited ) do games w 8BitDo Pro 3 Controller Announced with Swappable Buttons, Available for Preorder

I find this annoying. I have three different 8bitdo controllers hanging around my house. I have the original 8bitdo sn30 pro, the pro plus, and the pro 2. After I bought the pro 2 they came out with the Xbox variant. The difference between the pro 2 regular and the pro 2 Xbox variant? The additional rear buttons on the Xbox variant work and are mappable in steam os. Where the ones on the original pro 2 are not. Do both of these controllers have the ultimate software? Yes. But unfortunately one of them doesn’t contain the hardware to make those physical buttons work as physically and programbaly different than the other buttons on the controller.

I can buy this. I could buy the Xbox variant pro 2. But I don’t want to have to keep buying essentially the same controller to get functionality it should have had in the first place.

Adalast, do games w Cozy Games May Help Improve Players' Mental Health, Researchers Say

That first paragraph put me off from the article because it positioned the research on gaming violence as if there were a positive correlation instead of reporting that it is actually negatively correlated. It also did not mention the positive research that came from the studies on game playing and eye hand coordination and the many other benefits video games have been proven to have. The author made it sound like this was the first positive thing about video games.

Rozz,

To me it seemed to try to say that most research done so far on video games is mostly about how violence in games affects people, not the positive benefits. Which is probably true that the majority (for a while at least) was about that.

I don’t fancy their odds with the switch 2 coming out and eating their hype cycle. Have a feeling people would view this more as an xsx pro than a full generational upgrade. I honestly don’t think Xbox stock has ever been lower so they better hope this doesn’t flop (or perhaps hope that Sony does something really dumb with the PS6 launch, which admittedly is far from out of the question).

The Switch 2 and this console will be separated by about a year.

CidVicious,
@CidVicious@sh.itjust.works avatar

Well we still don’t have a date on it and many previous Nintendo launches have had demand way outstrip supply, leading to the new console being a pretty hot item way past initial launch date.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

Rumor has it that’s exactly why this launch got delayed. It’s been in production for months now.

CidVicious,
@CidVicious@sh.itjust.works avatar

shrug I guess we’ll see but I don’t think it’s at all far fetched to think that more people will be lining up and saving for a switch 2 compared to a new xbox, even a year after the launch. The switch is one of the most successful consoles of all time and I don’t see any indication that demand for the switch 2 will be softer.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

I think it’ll be softer for a number of reasons, but “softer than one of the most successful consoles of all time” is still a high bar to clear.
