NeatNit, do games w Funny bad games reviews

I’m assuming you already know AVGN, who pretty much invented it, but on the off-chance you don’t - his oldest videos are worth trying. I haven’t watched too much of his newer stuff, but I hear it devolved into pointlessness. Still, the backlog of good ones is massive.

AVGN is Angry Video Game Nerd, in case there’s any doubt.

apotheotic, do gaming w I asked what your fave controllers are, now. What is the worst controller you have used?

Those roll-up dance mats from the old ps2 dance dance revolution style games. They were unreliable as all hell.

sleepybisexual,

Roll up controller. Sounds like an inevitable mess

sleepybisexual,

That’s a carpet with a taped on fire hazard

apotheotic,

Its also, apparently, a viable method of beating dark souls

SteevyT,

Is there anything that isn’t a viable method for beating Dark Souls?

apotheotic,

I haven’t yet seen dark souls beaten purely by cosmic ray bitflips but I’m sure someone is busy with that

sleepybisexual,

Lmao

We ended up nailing them down to plywood. They registered waaaaay better but wore out 3x as fast.

apotheotic,

Not a bad idea if you have the space tbh

megopie, do gaming w I asked what your fave controllers are, now. What is the worst controller you have used?

Any controller that has asymmetrical joysticks. I get they’re all copying Xbox, Xbox was wrong.

If you’re using one to look around and one to move, having them require your hands be in two different positions is dumb.

sleepybisexual,

I disagree about it being the worst but after trying symmetrical its better

SteposVenzny, do gaming w I asked what your fave controllers are, now. What is the worst controller you have used?

N64

I got no beef with the three prongs like you see so many fuss about but those analog sticks were extremely fragile and would inevitably go completely limp over time and wind up 99% deadzone.

HeartyOfGlass,

Super Mario 64 - a launch title, iirc? - murdered my control stick. Spinning that around to swing Bowser was a great game design idea, but yeah they didn’t build those controllers to withstand it for long.

SeaJ,

1080 Snowboarding forced me to get an Interact Superpad 64. It had a metal joystick.

People always give shit to MadCatz but they had the sturdiest 64 controllers. All the first party ones would last maybe 2 or 3 games of Mario Party or WWF Smackdown. The MadCatz we had was the GOAT for games that required spinning the stick a lot. But I hated how extra THICC they were. Made them a bitch to hold.

ICastFist, do gaming w Speaking of controllers: What's your favorite WEIRD controller?
    @ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

This one. It’s basically an upside down Mega Drive/Genesis controller for one of the Brazilian famiclones, with turbo buttons for A and B

jarfil, do gaming w What are your favourite controllers?

Keyboard and mouse… but the Steam Controller is cool too.

Other than that, any PS clone. The long thin horns fit my hands better than others.

Given that the only console games I play are old Nintendo platformers, I’m gonna have to go with the NES Controller.

Trying to play Megaman 2 with analog sticks is an exercise in anger management. XD

    sleepybisexual,

Retro games with analogs are pain, I love dpads

    sleepybisexual,

Also, I think you might like the 8bitdo sn30

Its a SNES shaped one with small analogs.

    Dpads are cool

Excrubulent, (edited ) do games w Are there any good casual/low-stress mobile games that aren't filled with microtransactions?
    @Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

A Dance of Fire and Ice is an incredible rhythm game that you buy once and that’s it. I think there’s an expansion pack but it’s a single purchase. Whether that’s your idea of “casual” really depends on what you like. You can always play chill low difficulty levels when you need to zone out, and high difficulty levels when you want a challenge. It can get stupidly hard.

You can try a demo online at that link. It told me webgl wasn’t supported on mobile, but it worked pretty well for me just now on firefox, even if it was a bit laggy. It should work fine on PC.

I pirated it on PC after my kids told me about it and ended up buying it three times on Steam and twice on mobile. It’s just that good. I’ve built a custom digital drum to play it and I’m now making a custom MIDI controller, so we’ll see if that does better when connected to the game.

The game works as well on mobile, if not better because the touchscreen is so responsive.

all-knight-party, do gaming w Anyone know any good shooters for switch?
    @all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

Plants vs Zombies Battle for the Neighborville. You might think I'm kidding, but in terms of how it feels to play it's my favorite shooter on the switch. The people who made that knew what the fuck they were doing.

Really good gyro implementation as well.

Not sure if it fits your criteria but the only mobile game I play is pinball deluxe. If you like real pinball, then you’ll love it, it tries to stay as true to real pinball as possible on some/most tables, it does have small transaction stuff you can buy but I still haven’t bought any including all the additional tables etc after playing it 6 months + and if you did, then it’s just an 8€ one time buy to get all the content and remove the ads, I’m gonna get that once I actually get bored of the “free” tables.

Yass, this was a daily driver for six months straight. The missions are actually fun and help you get access to free tables. Nice surprise, graphics are gorgeous.

“0h h1” is a fun, easy logic puzzle game that I find myself going back to when I have a minute to kill.

blindsight, do gaming w How to get good at FPS with a controller, coming from a PC gamer?

I played Superhot first on the Deck. Since time only moves (much) when you’re moving, you have lots of time to practice aiming and getting used to track pads/stick + gyro controls. It requires precise aiming, and there are occasional times where speed helps, so it was a good “training” game for me.

It’s still not as natural as KB+mouse, but I’ve been enjoying Ziggurat 2 a lot (on normal difficulty). I won’t push into hard modes, like I would on PC, but it’s working well for me.

    xavier666,

Nice, I have both the Superhots. Begin the install!!
