Why are people downvoting this daily post? I like it, it’s fun to share with others and it gives life to a community and discussions. Thanks OP for keeping it up!
Some people find it to be repetitive and low effort, which, as much as I love doing these, I can understand their perspective. The last few days have been mostly Halo and Zomboid (and Shadow of Mordor one time) while I finish the move over to CachyOS. So I kind of understand where they’re coming from.
I still enjoy it though, and as long as other people are enjoying it, I’ll probably keep going (or until life requires too much time of me).
Not only playing a game every day, but also writing about it, isn’t low effort by any means. I’m lucky if I get to gaming once every two weeks, let alone write about it.
Mostly singleplayer, when I feel like I’ve completed the most that the game would offer. Sometimes save cheesing/rng manipulation if I can’t get a certain thing to go my way, but not a lot.
On multiplayer, I did used to play anarchy minecraft servers (where cheats level the playing ground for everyone), but nothing that breaks that balance. Multiplayer is only fun when everyone has similar tools to you.
IDDQD, IDKFA, ⬆️⬆️⬇️⬇️⬅️➡️⬅️➡️B,A,Start, are the ones I know off the top of my head. Tons of people don’t want to grind, just sandbox, so you get city and people sims with infinite cash codes.
I guess what I’m getting at is, if they weren’t called cheat codes, would it even be considered cheating? Cheating usually involves someone being harmed or cheated out of something (money, love). Are there any victims in this case (strictly single player, of course)? I’d argue that you even lose out if you aren’t using codes, cuz you might say ‘fuck it’, and just move on to another thing (like your Terraria example).
Heck, we might as well tie this up with something modern and political, like right to repair. If you bought the software, you should be free to manipulate it, all the way up to (but not including) distributing your version for money. Single player cheating is about as harmful as a nice masturbation sesh.
Literally every time someone says the words “Cheat Codes”, my brain says to me “IDDQD”. Then I answer it back with “IDKFA”. Cause I talk to my brain. Those are in there forever. Rent free.
Its more fun to use IDDQD and then IDCHOPPERS. you still have to play and find the keys/weapons but you get a chainsaw immediately. Running around invincible with a chainsaw is a good memory of that game for me.
What a cool idea!! I’m a horror fiend with a masters degree in social psychology, so this is right up my alley. Just requested access; best of luck to you and your game! :)
Ah wow! You might the perfect person to playtest! Thank you so much, when the playtest is up you will be notified by Steam! Don’t forget to fill in the form
I think that there is a time factor and a complication factor. Like the longer the game lasts and the fewer characters available to name, the more people who will name and customize characters.
I wonder how many people completed Skyrim with the name “Prisoner”, though.
It doesn’t actually appear anywhere in game but Oblivion’s main character has an internal name in the editor. “Bendu Olo”. Very Geoge Lucas kind of name.
I miss casual flight sims that were designed to be played with a joystick. Not so much Janes F-15 1997 or whatever, i’m more talking about Crimson Skies. I want more Crimson Skies.
For me this is more about open world games losing cool features than wanting to play a game with that feature. In GTA 4 it affected the choices I’d make whilst driving as it was entirely possible to make a vehicle nearly impossible to drive without coming close to blowing it up.
Some games minimize and try to lock your mouse to the game if you alt tab out. Windowed mode makes it pretty much seamless, pain free. No difference I ever found, just easier to alt tab out and check a map, take notes, pause and watch a video.
I never saw a major performance difference, but being able to switch windows without the game possibly crashing is great. Especially in single player games, sometimes you just need to pause and check laundry, or check email. Alt tab and good to go.
That’s the benefit I use it for. Some games force minimize when you tab off and they can crash when you try to tab back to them.
There used to be a noticeable graphics performance boost to an app when in full screen mode, but that was back in Windows 7 days and may not be true any more.
Adding a reboot button is ONLY necessary if the game isn’t made correctly. There is otherwise no reason to ever need to restart the game. I would see the addition of a restart option as lazy or an admission of failure by the dev.
I could still see it as an admission of imperfection.
Arc Raiders includes an “unstuck” feature. They’re aware their physics system isn’t infallibly perfect, and getting stuck permanently could lead to loss of hard-earned gear. So, if a player is in one spot for more than a minute, they offer an option to teleport you to a safe place a few feet away.
Have you played other visual novels? Spending some time in those may help you recognize the tropes of the genre, and then when you see them in DDLC, you’ll know what not to expect since that game is specifically subverting expectations.
As other people have said though, DDLC is very intentionally somewhat upsetting, and there’s nothing wrong with looking up a short synopsis to understand what to expect before deciding for yourself.
