Cleaning up hordes in this game was some of the best platinuming I ever did. Distance is key, traps and aoe damage like molotovs help a ton.

Out of curiosity, what’s your install path for the game? Some games don’t cooperate with Program Files or Program Files (x86), so if it’s in there, try installing it to a different location and see if the problem persists.

ianhclark510,
@ianhclark510@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

freaking Bethesda, only had 64 bit windows for 2 decades now -_-

i’ll reinstall to C:/Program Files, and if i’m still having errors when that finishes in a fortnight i’ll update the post

darkdemize,
@darkdemize@sh.itjust.works avatar

Try installing to somewhere besides those. I personally make a C:/Games folder and install everything in there.

moving the game to another drive helped! thanks!

SatanClaus,

Hm I’ll have to try this. Thank you

2xsaiko,
@2xsaiko@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Pretty much only games that were made pre-permission restrictions on Program Files because they try to write to the install folder. I think that was added around XP/Vista. Anything remotely recent shouldn’t have this problem (especially if it’s the default install directory).

(The error code 0xc0000096 (Privileged instruction) also doesn’t indicate this at all but hey, there’s been weirder cases of errors caused by completely unrelated seeming conditions.)

darkdemize,
@darkdemize@sh.itjust.works avatar

Could be. I play more older games, so I’ve run into this a few times.

SatanClaus,

I completely uninstalled steam after moving all of my games to a different drive through steams settings. Then installed steam itself into a c:/games folder and then moved back over the games I wanted on my SSD.

No crashes yet 1 hour played of Oblivion remaster

darkdemize,
@darkdemize@sh.itjust.works avatar

Hey! Are you the OP? Either way, I hope this helped.

SatanClaus,

I’m not. But it did! Lol

As a fan since the first, and having played nearly every version of Far Cry, Far Cry 5 was the biggest disappointment for so many reasons. What a dud. I cannot comprehend the love people have for this mediocre pile of mush.

The Vietnam DLC was fun though.

Blood Dragon is the best Far Cry by the way. But truly Far Cry 2 is actually the best for what it aimed to achieve, which was lost in subsequent games.

I loved the first act. It was so much fun to be there and run around. Then I was so disappointed when the second area opened and I realized oh, so I just… Do the same thing again? Like exactly the same? By the end I was just bored

Factorio. If you enjoyed Satisfactory you should check out the game that created the genre. They have an excellent demo and although it’s relatively expensive compared to similar games, it’s the best one and runs like an absolute dream even when things get huge where a lot of similar games slow down.

ActuallyGoingCrazy, do games w Please suggest good progression based multiplayer games

I didn’t play it in a group, but you guys might like Grounded. You’re tiny people exploring a backyard, and you’ve gotta harvest stuff like blades of grass, pebbles, and bits of candy/leftover food. Has a decent progression to it, I think.

Thorry84, (edited ) do games w Random Screenshots of my Games #59 - Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 is by far my favorite of the franchise. Interesting world, good gameplay, fun mechanics. It doesn’t take itself very seriously, but still has a more serious story. Everything meshes really well and it’s a ton of fun in coop.

Far Cry 6 was a huge letdown, I hated it. Lots of re-used assets, dumb game mechanics, story very predictable and not interesting. When it released performance was terrible with lots of crashes and bugs. And not the fun kind of jank like in most FC games, the this is annoying my mission is softlocked kind of bugs. Plus it felt like 3 games in 1 which didn’t really have anything to do with each other. Later I found out this was because multiple teams worked on the different parts which didn’t really communicate as much due to covid.

Far Cry 6 was a huge letdown, I hated it.

I felt the same way. It was even more disappointing because Epic Games got their claws into it, so it released as an exclusive title. I had to wait a year before I could play it on Steam, and it didn’t even live up to the hype!

I recently re-installed Far Cry 6 and a friend and I have been replaying it in co-op mode. It’s actually a lot more fun than I remember. I don’t know if it received a bunch of patches/updates since I last tried it, or if I was just super-critical after Far Cry 5. But it’s not a horrible game. At least not yet; we’re only a couple hours into it so far.

Often when I am sick of all the things I’ve been playing or feeling uninspired I go for a genre switch. To that end I will always recommend Neir: Replicant and Neir: Automata—I feel like a failure and a fool to have sat on them for so many years. Those are both games that feature very approachable gameplay with the whole deep story and cross genre mechanics that the split fiction devs seem to be good at (and are both single player), just be sure to continue playing after the first (and second and third, etc) credits roll.

Other random suggestions:

Bellwright is a really good colony sim / survival craft combo (although I’ve not played it single player so not sure how great it is in that mode).

Cyberpunk 2077 is just fucking great if you haven’t played that.

Disco Elysium if you’re really looking for some Get Stick Bugged content. (and a fantastic drunk cop RPG)

Gnugit,

Just don’t buy Disco Elesium, the thieves that stole it don’t deserve that.

If you liked BG3 and Divinity 2, I’m obligated to mention the Pathfinder games: Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous. The graphics are a touch simple, but the writing is great and the detailed character building scratches an itch for me. As far as I’m concerned, Owlcat is currently the only real competition Larian has.

Those are some impressive scores, sucks that I don’t own anything I could play it on. Hopefully there’s a Switch 2 port in the future, since I’ll likely get one once a new Xenoblade game is on the horizon.

I’m not big on hardware, is a Switch 2 stronger than the weak Xbox version?

idyllic_optimism, do games w I'm bored and desperately search for a proper game

I don’t see Bioware titles on the list. Dragon Age series for fantasy, Mass Effect for sci fi. Since BG3 is on the list, I wanted to mention in case you haven’t gotten to them yet.

tatann, (edited )

I’ll second Dragon Age since it’s less action oriented than Mass Effect (which is great but OP seems more interested in strategy/management than shooting)

Mass Effect has a “tactical pause” feature though, but it feels less Baldur-like :)

LordWiggle,
@LordWiggle@lemmy.world avatar

I loved dragon age games and mass effect 1. Even 2, but 3 was shit.

Timberborn I played, was nice but don’t feel like playing that anymore.

Stardew I’ve heard great stories about, but doesn’t look like something for me. But I’ll for sure check it out!

snugglesthefalse,

Yeah similar here, I could never get into stardew and I played timberborn a while ago but haven’t felt like picking it up again since
