vortexal, (edited ) do games w RuneScape is increasing their membership price by 50%, and Reddit is trying to censor it
@vortexal@sopuli.xyz avatar

The Reddit community is part of the reason I stopped playing RuneScape a few years ago. The in-game community was fine for the most part, as players would mostly keep to themselves or just talk with their own groups. But the subreddit would get super offended/aggressive towards each other for the stupidest things and the mods always seemed to make things worse.

I’ve always been of the believe that all online games with subscription services should always be $60 a year at most. If you do the math, $60 a year per player is way more than what single-player games make and maintaining/updating online games doesn’t require as much work as making brand new games either.

And yes, I’m aware of the whole thing with the bonds and how they technically allow you to play the game for free but, at least compared to the old prices, they aren’t as efficient as just buying a member and Jagex makes more money off of them. So, I still think that Jagex shouldn’t change the membership prices.

ABCDE,

maintaining/updating online games doesn’t require as much work either.

Eyyy

There, I fixed it. It took me a while to understand what the problem was but I figured it out.

Tossed $6 your way on Buy Me A Coffee yesterday!

Excited to get into the beta

schamppu,

Cheers, and thank you for supporting the developmemt! Remember to link your BMAC to your WalkScape account and you’ll get access! ❤️

The game looks great! I really like that you don’t rely on GPS, because of privacy.

schamppu,

Thank you! Privacy is definitely the biggest concern, but also GPS requires apps to be opened to register anything, and it kills the battery quite quickly (and requires active internet connection).

MoonlightFox,

By the way, I got such a good impression that I became a BMAC contributor, looking forward to testing it!

schamppu,

Thank you so much for supporting the development! You should’ve received an email that has instructions to link your BMAC on your account page. When you link your account there, you should receive download instructions either almost immediately (sometimes might take couple of hours for our automated system, but usually faster).

Happy walking, and remember to stay hydrated ❤️

MoonlightFox,

I have the game installed now 😀 I like that all steps go towards a goal of some sort.

Found a tiny typo with the name for one of the hairstyles. If you search through your codebase for “adn bun” you will find it. Its probably supposed to say “and bun” 😊

schamppu,

Thanks for letting me know, and welcome! ❤️

Does GPS really require an internet connection? I know it uses the radio, which kills the battery, but AFAIK you can get GPS without Internet access. For example, I’ve downloaded offline areas for Google Maps and have tracked my location that way, while traveling in countries where I didn’t have a SIM allowing me to access the Internet.

schamppu,

Not necessarily, but in order to use map data, you’ll pretty much need it. This is why all of the GPS games require a connection, as they’ll download map data and cache your current surrounding areas

Blackmist, do games w Is assasin's creed origins good?

It’s decent, but a large departure from the previous games.

You’ll be doing a lot of levelling up in order to progress. Assassinations on more powerful enemies won’t be guaranteed kills.

It’s a lot more RPG-lite than the other games.

I think Odyssey was better, and very similar in structure. The only problem is it’s so long I don’t even want to look at another AC game for a while, and it was a few years ago that I played it. They all look very much the same now.

Skua, do gaming w Need tips, when is a non-campaign game considered 'completed'?

For Civ 6, I'd say winning each victory once. Try to do it with different civs each time too. You can set your goal as winning a game on the highest difficulty if you want, but personally I don't find that to be as interesting as the shift in gameplay necessary to win the different victories without just militarily crushing everyone else.

I signed up after seeing your last post. I made it into the last wave of invites and have been playing since last week. This game is really cool and I don’t think there is anything else like it.

schamppu,

Thank you so much!

I think why this game is so unique is that it’s origins are a hobby project and come from my sentiment of creating a fitness game that fixes what the others fail at. Rarely anyone makes indie games for mobile, and I’ve been called a bunch of names for attempting making an indie game to the mobile platform by other devs. But so far things are looking great, and I’m hoping that the mobile game industry would have more indie games.

Maybe with DMA we could start seeing more, as the biggest hurdle are the app stores and how they’re made to only favour games with big budgets.

jodanlime,
@jodanlime@midwest.social avatar

I agree with everything you said, only that I’m not quite sure what DMA is.

I want more indie games on my phone because the major mobile app developers are beyond trash at this point. I love indie devs, I love FOSS and indie games. I prefer programming that lends itself to democratizing the web and my devices.

Your game is a breath of freedom right now in the mobile marketplace. I made it in on the free invite system, but the fact that you are on the fediverse talking to me, coupled with the fact that your game and end goal seam awesome, I’m going to figure out how to become a donating member as soon as I get home.

I’m out on a night walk right now with my walkscape app open, while typing this reply. Amazing times.

schamppu,

Thank you so much! And I’m a huge fan of both indie & FOSS too.

DMA (Digital Markets Act) is a new EU legislation that came into effect just few months ago. It forced both Apple and Google to allow third party app stores and change their ToS (I think in EU only). Apple even had to lower their “developer tax” when it comes to payments from 30% to just 12% in EU. It’s good progress, especially if we start seeing competing app stores (I think Epic had plans for that). But even if the app stores open up for smaller studios, there’s still a lot of convincing needed until gamers start considering that mobile games can be good too, and not only match-3 gacha crap. And the big studios never want to innovate, they’ll keep making games that they think are safe bets to generate maximum profits.

Maybe Valve could now expand to having a mobile game store? :D

@Fizz@lemmy.nz avatar

I know you specifically asked for not this but its the only game i know that is a good rpg on mobile. You could play old school Runescape. Its essentially single player since there aren’t many parts of the game that require co operation. You will see other players walking around the world and talking but you can turn public chat off so you never need to see anything they say. The game is incredibly light on data usage since it was designed as a browser game in the 2000s.

Apparently quite a few people play Cataclysm DDA on android.

Catpurple,

I love CDDA and played it loads on desktop, but I could never get into the Android version. The touchscreen controls are painful, but of course they kind of can’t be anything but painful. I think most people play with Bluetooth keyboards, but I figure that if I have to use a Bluetooth keyboard, I might as well just be playing it at my desktop. Still have CDDA installed on my phone anyway though.

Kintarian,

Thanks, I’ll look that up.

I genuinely have NO clue if this game is known, but i suspect it mostly isn’t.

It’s Keyboard Drumset Fucking Werewolf! It’s kinda like a music video, but it’s a music video game 👉😏

It’s a collaboration between 2000s indie weirdo darling gamedev cactus and Swedish synthpunk band Fucking Werewolf ASSO.

it’s aggressively strange and moderately challenging, but I think it’s just a goddamn delight and maybe you will too.

Cave Story+.

You are Quote, an amnesiac robot. The world appear to have gone to shit and you don’t know why.

It’s a 2D sidescroller, which if I told myself, I would find immediately boring, but the animation, controls and story combined as just so good. It’s so good.

Mango,

This game is decently famous. Also it’s amazing. What’s the + about?

Eternum (warning: NSFW) is an adult visual novel that keeps touching me with every new update. It’s completely free, and I can’t help but think of the creator as a master of the genre.

The characters are all well written and (those who are meant to be) lovable. The story is interesting, compelling even, and the humor is often hilarious. When you go to the website, you might think “Porn game!!!”, and not be entirely wrong, but Eternum is so much more. It’s a story about love, friendship, and a mystery.

Setting: Orion moves back to the USA after a long time. In recent years, a video game called eternum has been gaining traction, that allows going into virtual worlds, think full dive VR like in Sword Art Online. I’d say about 60% of the story happens IRL.

I can only recommend this masterpiece of a visual novel.

Ripples was pretty good too yes, but it’s been a while since I looked into that. Many AVNs are hidden gems.

Dungeon Keeper

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/9f86e936-7bc5-4e8e-ae88-7d390e967876.png

It’s a dungeon management game from '97. You are an evil Keeper and control a dungeon where you need to build rooms and train your creatures to attack (or defend from) the good guys.

Nowadays people play KeeperFX which is the opensource remake.
