Gauntlet: Dark Legacy

lepinkainen,

Any game in that genre combined with local and remote multiplayer would be a hit

sevan, do games w In the era of remakes and remasters, what niche game would you like to see receive the treatment?

Deus Ex. When I first played it I was amazed by the graphics and I specifically remember being impressed that your character was reflected in mirrors. I’ve been replaying it recently and the graphics are obviously very dated, but it also doesn’t run smoothly on modern hardware. My PC gets louder and louder as I play it and eventually the game starts to stutter and I have to restart it.

Omegamanthethird, (edited ) do games w Whatever happened to racing games
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

It’s weird that games nailed fun racing games back in the PS2/Xbox era. Between Burnout, Midnight Club, Need for Speed, all of them peaked. Then couldn’t repeat formula. Then on the PS3 they had Motorstorm. But really there hasn’t been a lot of fun racing games since.

Nice find! I thought America only had it for New England and California.

BossDj,

Many of the big, blue cities will have some color if you zoom in. But only to commute within the area

The Yucatan peninsula has an electric line too!

petrescatraian, do gaming w If you use beehaw.org as a minecraft seed you get a beehive close to where you spawn. (1.21.3)

@Gamers_mate lol, reshared. Can the bees attack you if you attack them? That would make it even more cool.

JackOverlord,
@JackOverlord@beehaw.org avatar

They can, but just like real bees they lose their stinger when they do and die shortly thereafter.

petrescatraian,

@JackOverlord lmfao!!!

Gamers_mate,

Yes but they are pretty chill as long as you don’t hit them or pick up their nest without the silk touch enchantment.

petrescatraian,

@Gamers_mate oh. I'm gonna pick Minecraft again then, and do just that, lol.

FlihpFlorp,

Also just like real bees smoking them with a campfire while they’re in the hive makes you be able to harvest with shears

But that only makes the bees inside the hive calm not bees who are still flying around

Also I’d recommend making an enclosure since they sometimes get lost and then die in the rain

garretble, do games w Marvel's Midnight Suns is criminally underrated
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

I happen to have a friend who works at Firaxis and worked on Midnight Suns. I am really happy for him/them that game came out as well as it did.

The overworld running could certainly be better, but overall that game is super good. I really like the turn from Xcom of a somewhat fake 97% to hit (where your character right next to an alien will still miss) to simply having everything hit but it’s restricted by the skills you have at hand in that moment. I’d be more excited about a Midnight Suns 2 than Civ VII, honestly.

BigBananaDealer,
@BigBananaDealer@lemm.ee avatar

its a shame there is an almost 0% chance of a sequel, as i think a midnight suns-like game set in the x-mansion would be incredible. but i heard that some of the devs from midnight suns are now working on a star wars game in the same vein, that would be super cool

ouch,

If you hate XCOM’s PRNG hit percentages, you may want to try or watch Hard West. It has somewhat deterministic luck mechanic, that prevents idiocy that happens in XCOM. The game itself is a bot buggy, though.

mox, do games w Is there a video-game .ics/calendar that I can subscribe to keep up with recent releases?

If you don’t find one, you might consider looking for RSS (or Atom) feeds that list new game announcements or reviews. Maybe one of these, for example.

Ok…this thread has Sunny, Chris, and Mox…I cannot be the only person getting pro-wrestling vibes from this post.

SepulchravesLibrary, do gaming w What game do you wish you got into as a kid?

Definitely the Silent Hill series for me. We were more of a Resident Evil household growing-up

Chozo,
@Chozo@fedia.io avatar

From what I've seen, the SH2 remake looks really good. Honestly, it's a fine starting point if you want to get into the series as SH1 is pretty inconsequential to the rest of the games, so you can definitely just skip it and not really miss out on much.

I really hope that Bloober gets the greenlight to continue remaking the rest of the series. I'd love to see a modernized SH3.

petrol_sniff_king,

SH2 remake is sooo good. I’m in disbelief, honestly—and I’m still not convinced Konami will take Silent Hill f seriously enough. God willing.

But yes, if you’re interested, play SH2 remake.

SepulchravesLibrary,

Thanks for your replies! I’ve started playing SH2 remake just today and I’m thoroughly enjoying it thus far. Bloober Team really surprised me with this one.

The following are incoherent rambles pls don’t bother to read/don’t be mad

I’m finding this hard to articulate without rambling but despite enjoying it, I’m not feeling truly immersed in the moment-to-moment gameplay as much as I’d like to be. The reason being this is my first exposure to SH2 and I personally feel like I’m trying to retroactively “catch-up” on almost 20 years of missed themes and nostalgia, therefore I’m trying to absorb & consider every element of the story a li’l too much.

Phenomonal sound design btw.

I want to smash every window in the town

petrol_sniff_king,

Yeah, that’s a tough one.

I’d say “well, don’t,” but that’s pretty obviously useless. :p

I think I can say this much, though: Silent Hill, being so metaphorical, it’s kind of built like a big puzzle? It’s okay to “not get it” while you’re playing. Most of the stuff I know I’m pretty sure I picked up from fan wikis later on.

So, easier said than done, but: try not to think so much, haha.

The remake is also a little better about explaining its own plot, I think just by being a little more obvious. So, by the end, some things might click into place a little more.

And yeah, the sound design, (minor early game spoiler) have you noticed that >!the radio!< >!is a positional sound?!<

!Normally, you hear it kind of left and behind you. My instinct that the sound is supposed to be telling me where to look was so strong that I kept turning away from enemies I knew were right in front of me. That’s so genius I almost feel it must have been an accident.!<

SepulchravesLibrary,

You live up to your name, thank you King! I’m going to try to put that critical part of my brain away, just enjoy the ride and worry about having a deeper delve & thinking about the themes after my first run-through.

I’ve recently upgraded TV and sound systems and that li’l detail about the radio is genuinely so helpful.

petrol_sniff_king,

Oh hell yeah. The perfect system for Yamaoka’s industrial scrape music.

Let me know how it goes. I’ve been real excited to see people experience this for the first time, haha.

Jimmycrackcrack, do gaming w Is the OSx version of Disco Elysium on GOG Native to Apple Silicon?

To answer my own question, I found this from googling …gog.com/…/4408596960797-Disco-Elysium-The-Final-…

Which seems to indicate that it is, but you have to take some active steps to make sure that’s what’s run when you actually play the game. I find that a bit confusing but it sounds simple enough. I don’t know what GOG galaxy is but I assume it’s a storefront like Steam. Sounds like if you run by opening Galaxy and hitting play, it won’t be the native version and will run through Rosetta 2 but if you run it from your applications folder it’s the native version. This is a bit odd because that makes it sound like by default what you have installed is BOTH versions which sounds like an awful waste of disk space but maybe I’ve misunderstood.

After I bought the game I went looking for where to download it and found it in the games section of profile page on GOG but when I downloaded it, it was an installer that starts downloading the Galaxy thing. I can’t imagine having any use for that and since I’ll likely never launch what will at the moment be my only GOG game from there it’s just a potential source of confusion so I clicked on the download backup installer option. Hope this ens up being native, I think the game is meant to have very modest requirements indeed in any case so if it turns out to somehow be running through Rosetta 2 I suspect it’ll be imperceptible anyway.

Deconceptualist,

I don’t know what GOG galaxy is but I assume it’s a storefront like Steam.

Yep, basically that. No you don’t need it to launch games, I would skip it if this is your only game from GOG.

Sounds like if you run by opening Galaxy and hitting play, it won’t be the native version and will run through Rosetta 2 but if you run it from your applications folder it’s the native version. This is a bit odd because that makes it sound like by default what you have installed is BOTH versions which sounds like an awful waste of disk space

I don’t game on Mac these days but that seems very plausible.

If you do want another launcher option, Heroic works on Mac. I’m not sure if it gives any different options on what version to install. heroicgameslauncher.com

Tropper, do gaming w Is Assassin's creed shadows going to be some free to play bullshit or will I be able to just buy it?

I’m not entirely sure, but I think Mirage on the App Store is a trial version with the ability to buy the full version, which is why it’s listed as free to play with micro transaction.

slimerancher,
@slimerancher@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, Mirage is not a free to play game. Must be a trial version, with option to buy the full game.

DarkThoughts, do gaming w TIL Stein Gate is also a game

I wish Japan would stop it with the terrible German language inclusions in their media.

ChaoticNeutralCzech,

So you Germans find it cringey? I am a fan of German and can’t get enough. Frieren! Stroheim! Jäger! Mondstadt! Such beautiful words!

DarkThoughts,

Calling someone "freezing" is stupidly cringe, yes. German verbs generally make for bad and very confusing names. Stroheim is also wrong, it would be Strohheim since it is a compound word of Stroh (straw - as in the dry grass type) and Heim (home, or asylum, depending on the context). In this case here it is even Denglish, as it says "stone gate" but with one word being German - and within German, a space separating a compound word like this, is a "Deppenleerzeichen" (fool's space). And don't even get me started on Japanese trying to pronounce German words, especially vocalists in their songs... It's like little kids singing along to Japanese lyrics. It's usually not understandable by native speakers. Jäger in Japanese media is often used for Nazi-esque characters btw, like Eren in AoT

tobogganablaze,

As a German, I don’t mind it at all. I guess it can be a bit confusing when watching German subs/dub. But I always think of it as a neat little easter egg when I come across a German name.
