MyNameIsAtticus, do games w Random Screenshots of my Games #62 - PEAK
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

Hey! Me and my friend played this recently and it took us a good while to clear. It’s fun, but incredibly difficult. We even turned it down to the lowest difficulty and still only one of us finished the climb.

The GBA SP really was a great portable. I carried my black\silver “executive” model everywhere and felt cool as shit at the time.

Those PS2 ads though, holy shit, what was Sony smoking back then?

brucethemoose,

They need to give it to the current marketing team. And save some for me.

toeblast96,

me pullign out the playstation Condoms

CPMSP, do gaming w I'm still in full denial, personally.

Strategy and turn based RPGs FTW!

I cut my teeth on games when being balls hard was the standard. I paid my dues. Nowadays I just put them on easy (and use save states for old games).

late 30’s and I’ll still whoop your ass at Street Fighter 6 or The Finals

This is the real reason to have kids. I’m not up on the Mario Kart meta, but I’ll whup my seven year old around rainbow road any damn day.

Getting there. I’m introducing my oldest (3) to all the Mario games now.

Super recommend Mario and the Rainbow Stars! It’s a free fan game with a ton of fun moments. They’ll have fun watching, and you’ll get something new to keep your interest.

Never heard of that one, but will look it up. Thanks!

truxnell, do games w I am working on a turn-based wargame, influenced by the old Win3.x era WinWar 2 game

I’m thrilled were still making games like this.

Lembot_0004,

Not sure if that is sarcasm or not. But if it is: we actually have plenty games “like this”. Look at the Civilization. Yes, they are more 3d nowadays, but essentially it is still good old moving units over hexagons.

victorz,

I don’t think it was sarcasm. 🙂❤️

Why can’t the OG devs just opensource the code out of spite. Would be a big middle-finger

ebolapie,
@ebolapie@lemmy.world avatar

Would you wanna get sued for hundreds of millions of dollars in damages and lose?

MITM0,
@MITM0@lemmy.world avatar

Of course not, but let’s say one of the devs leaked it onto the internet😉

GreenKnight23,

there’s many ways to identify where something like that came from.

data forensics is a bitch like that.

I mean, I wasn’t planning on buying it before I played it anyway.

Not sure I can support that take. Kinda focussed on the headline there and ignores the fact that other people work there also, that are probably relying on the success of this game for their paychecks and ability to keep making games. The dev industry in general is not in great shape atm.

Let the courts sort out shady business practices imo.

Support a decent game (if it is decent).

Certainly don’t preorder. Looking at you internet denisons.

SorryforSmelling,

other people got paid already. they most likely wont loose money or portfolio if you boycott. its rare that lower level devs and artists are getting any percent of the sales numbers. This talking point from you is coming straigt from bigger publishers all the way to stockholders that have nothing to do with the product.

LifeCoffeeGaming,

If a studio goes under cause of lack of sales of a game it’s not the execs who suffer. Can’t see the point your making rn?

SorryforSmelling,

but the people are already kicked… Look if bob works at “bob studios” and i love his work and want to support him, i can buy his game. but if bob got fired long ago, he wont get the money i give to “bob studios”. You are supporting a buisness construct and not the artist in this case here. almost all workers in the game dev field loose their job post project anyway, so you are not even helping them. So i stand by point that this is capitalist propaganda. Its sad but videogame artists get abused by the scene a whole lot. i think it makes sense to show support witht the individuals who make the games you love, rather than the legal steuctures trying to milk them.

LifeCoffeeGaming,

Are you saying that only the 3 people that got let go (and potentially shafted), are the only people that worked on the game? I don’t believe that’s the case but I could be wrong of course.

cupcakezealot, do gaming w Linux users: Are we over-reliant on Steam?

i miss going to a store and getting a game in a box with a manual :(

slauraure,
@slauraure@beehaw.org avatar

Then reading the manual on the bus home or in the backseat of the car. 😊

I still go to the local GameStop sometimes and pick up a used Switch title I’d like to keep and play again in the future before they all dry up. Sadly they come with no manual.

I’m afraid I’m fooling myself though and that one day when I dig out the Switch after not using it for a couple of years it will be a swollen mess of a fire hazard (with mega stick drift) and all those physical copies will be worthless without cartridge-dumping hardware and emulators.

hexagon527, do gaming w Linux users: Are we over-reliant on Steam?

I use Heroic more than I use Steam. It comes with a wine manager built in for Proton-GE, and if you have Steam Proton installed it can access that too. I use Proton Plus to get GE-Proton on Steam but I don’t even have to do that for Heroic.

dipcart, do games w The Steam controller was ahead of its time

I’ve had a PS5. Gave it away. I still have an Xbox. I don’t even know if its plugged in. The steam deck got me back into gaming in a way that I haven’t been in years. I feel like a kid again with the amazement of a piece of technology that can entertain me the way the steam deck can. I even bought a dbrand skin for it just because I love it so much. I’m playing prototype 2 and my fiancee is playing baldurs gate. When we have money we want to buy another one so we don’t have to share lol

vxx,

It’s a brillant device, I often use it more than my PC.

It gives me the feeling that playing the Gameboy as a kid gave me. The switch would only make my hands cramp because the controls are only made for small hands.

ImplyingImplications, do games w Day 357 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing

I loved this game so much! You’re in for a treat! Last of Us certainly has a way of making the apocalypse look gorgeous. All those reclaimed by nature cityscapes are amazing.

If you like the scenery and gameplay of this one then you’ll enjoy it in the second game too. Maybe lower your story writing expectations a bit though…

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

They really do have amazing landscapes. Almost makes me wish for a Zombie apocalypse lol.

I’ve heard bits and pieces about Part 2 but I’ve mostly avoided spoilers. Is it a case where it’s decent but not as good as the first one or did they majorly drop the ball?

ImplyingImplications,

I’d say the story of part 2 explores a different theme. The writing and acting are still top notch, it’s just not a theme people wanted to explore. The gameplay and scenery are arguably improved so I’d still recommend it.

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

I Definitely will then! The environments alone are piquing my interest in trying the sequel
