Gigastructural Engineering for Stellaris… the megastructures included in the game and DLC are great, but they lack a certain insanity. Plus the mod allows you to terraform any planet (even gas giants).

Dread. I wasn't sure if it could live up to the high expectations set for it, but they hit it out of the park. Hits all the highs of Super and Zero Mission, then goes on to outdo those games in terms of combat and boss fights. Had a blast going back to speedrun it again and again.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

I know a lot of people, myself included, got frustrated with the EMMI sections. Unless we all missed something about how they work, that the game could stand to explain better, you could end up walking into the room with bad RNG and the thing could be right on top of you. If you’re speedrunning the game, presumably you have a trick to avoid that scenario, but it was quite common and brought down my opinion on the game, for sure.

missingno,
@missingno@fedia.io avatar

Been a while and I don't remember the routing details at all, but I was surprised to find that they weren't much of an obstacle at all for the speedrun. They're designed to scare you on a first playthrough, but on subsequent replays you just go fast and they won't catch you.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

Well, what I meant was that you could enter the door and immediately be stuck in that quick time event that you usually fail because the window is so small, and you couldn’t see where the EMMI would be before you crossed the door’s threshold.

missingno,
@missingno@fedia.io avatar

I could be wrong, but I think that only happens if you repeatedly enter and exit the EMMI Zone, allowing it to wander around too much. Which is something you might get scared into doing on a first playthrough!

icecreamtaco,
@icecreamtaco@lemmy.world avatar

If you ever get into a EMMI QTE you’ve done something wrong. The QTE is a glorified game over screen, the 1% chance of escaping is only there to make it scarier with false hope

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

But that’s what I’m saying. It’s so unlikely you’ll make it out of it that when you walk into the room and the EMMI is already occupying the space you walked into blindly, it’s a frustrating unavoidable fail state.

Feyter, do gaming w Suikoden US vs JPN Box Art

I mean the JPN cover is much more true to the original game ascetic and is more artistically pleasing…

But c’mon the US cover looks like a frickin 80s fantasy trash movie poster. Retrospectively that’s so iconic.

luciole, do gaming w Don't forget to undervolt your gpu and change fan curve
@luciole@beehaw.org avatar

Do you know of good beginner friendly undervolting guides for AMD & Nvidia? This would go a long way towards people heeding your advice.

crony,
@crony@lemmy.cronyakatsuki.xyz avatar

I followed a random guide I found on the internet for amd.

In amd case you can do it from their driver by going to performance tab and choosing tuning.

There you will find gpu setting, set them to manual and from there you can start changing fan speed and voltage. Voltage you change by 50mv first time and if stable by 25. When you come to a point where your game/program crashes you use the value from before that didn’t crash the game and that’s it.

As for nvidia I don’t know because I don’t own one and don’t have the money to own one ( they are 1k euro on average here for 4070 and 2.5k for 4090 on average ) only thing I know is that you will need msi afterburner.

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

I do it with MSI Afterburner, then do stress tests in 3D Mark to make sure it’s stable. As long as you’re not over-volting you’re fairly safe to experiment. You can either do a flat undevolt, or you can set up a custom curve. Also like another commenter here said, changing the fan curve to actually engage the fans sooner helps keep the temps down, usually the default fan curve prioritizes silence to a disturbing degree.

Megaman_EXE, do gaming w What's your "this is totally fine and I'm going to have a great time" FPS (refresh rate). ?

I only recently experienced the luxury of higher frame rates.

I’ll put up with 30. I usually don’t notice it after a while, especially if it’s steady.

60 is preferred, and I always aim for performance if I can.

I haven’t been able to play much lately due to work, but I did manage to squeeze in some time to 100% Digseum.

I’ve loved the little genre of 'dig up buried artifacts ’ since it was a mini game back in Pokemon Diamond & Pearl, so it was nice to see again.

chloyster,

This game looks awesome. Definitely checking this out

Ulrich, do gaming w What's your "this is totally fine and I'm going to have a great time" FPS (refresh rate). ?
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

The average frame rate isn’t nearly as important as the stability. I’ll gladly take 30FPS over 60 + frame drops.

unmagical, do gaming w What's your "this is totally fine and I'm going to have a great time" FPS (refresh rate). ?

My monitor dynamically adjusts it’s refresh rate to match what my GPU is spitting out within reason. Anything above 40ish is fine, though competitive stuff does benefit from more. Below that even if my monitor is matching frame to fame I definitely notice.

Resident evil 2d Metroidvania.

The game is already genre adjacent. It would work so well.

Biohazard might as well be a metroidvania.

@Poopfeast420@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I think we’ve never really left, and it’s been going on for much longer. All the popular tech gets scalped. Switch, PS5, Phones GPUs, etc. If you can’t launch with infinite products available, it’s going to get scalped nowadays.

luciole, do gaming w Are we going through another scalping apocalypse?
@luciole@beehaw.org avatar

I’d say not. During the last crypto fuelled shortage there was practically nothing available and anything you could get your hands on was ludicrously expensive. Just checked on a few stores and there is currently some offer at varying prices. Just don’t obsess on last gen Nvidia products.

I’m waiting until I can play the entire game at once instead of chapter by chapter.

neon_nova,

Due to the unnecessary padding to stretch the game out, I feel that you might get burned out.
