If you think of ever reselling it, having the original box is going to fetch a better price.

BlameTheAntifa, do games w Hesitating getting a Switch 2 (1st game console in 15 years)...

Get a Steam Deck. The existence of Family Sharing alone makes it a much better choice for portable family gaming.

Nintendo has numerous major anti-consumer problems, from game ownership, to hardware quality and longevity, to their abusive behavior towards fans, consumers, and competitors. It’s not worth it, there are better options.

Shayeta,

And you can emulate any nintendo game you want.

EarMaster, do games w What are your favourite single-player games without much fluff, grinding or difficulty spikes?
@EarMaster@lemmy.world avatar

Titanfall 2 is a great shooter and story game. Don’t bother with Titanfall 1 if you are only in for singleplayer as it is multiplayer only.

who, do games w Are there any Android controllers with split D-pads?

In what way is the D-pad on a PlayStation controller “split”?

mercano,
@mercano@lemmy.world avatar

I think the Switch would be the better example, where up, down, left, and right are four distinct buttons, to be used like ABXY when playing in single Joycon multiplayer mode.

who, (edited )

That’s curious, because on the PlayStation 4 & 5 controllers, the D-pad buttons are all part of a single piece of plastic.

…cdn.ifixit.com/…/hTuPDBGqIUVBDYeI.huge

…cdn.ifixit.com/…/C1PxdgSaISCc4bw4.huge

You can see this when pressing one direction button, as the other three tilt along with it. The switches behind this plastic piece are separate, but as far as I know, that’s true in all D-pads.

The Switch Joy-Con is indeed an example of four distinct buttons.

Aren’t green bins usually for yard waste and food scraps?

nokturne213,

My town uses blue (normally recycling) for trash.

Cort,

We have blue for trash and blue with a yellow lid for recycling

I got the Wii U and am very happy with it. Large library of games and still looks amazing today. Homebrew and Piracy easily available and you can play GameCube and Wii Games on it too. Most importantly much much cheaper than a Switch 2 and no 80€ games bullshit.

When I upgrade to a new console, I put the old console in the original box. If I didn’t have that box, the console would just sit loose on a shelf in the back of my closet literally forever!

Now it sits there in the box. This is way better.

You could get a phone mount for a PS controller. Just a warning though, my phone was way heavier than my Dualsense controller, so it was not comfortable to play lying down. Another benefit of using the Playstation controller is you can stream your Playstation games.

Roots of Pacha is a really nice Stardew Valley inspired farming game with a very unique setting (stone age). Could be worth checking out for you.

You should be able to use a ps5 controller with it.

pinball_wizard, do games w What are your favourite single-player games without much fluff, grinding or difficulty spikes?

I may have missed it, but Dave the Diver deserves a mention here.

Boss battles are very rare, and slow paced enough that I have not run into the dreaded “I understand the pattern but I lack the dexterity”. (I often have this problem with other games.)

chronicledmonocle,

I second this, although some of the bosses can be quite a challenge.

I haven’t seen the Lego games mentioned here. (Lego Indian Jones, Lego Batman, etc.)

They tend to be story driven, and have excellent amounts of play-testing, resulting in an enjoyable playthrough that I’ve always been able to finish.

(Except Lego Dimensions, which was developed separately, and not to the same play-testing standards.)

brygphilomena,

Lego games are great for just putting on and playing. So very little intro tutorials and learning. They just are fun.

I’m in the same boat where I don’t want anything that takes too long to get into. I don’t have the time to learn complex mechanics anymore.

I had a colleague who thought you had to ship something in original packaging if you needed to send something to get it repaired under warranty… He had so many boxes…

Once upon a time some warranties had that stipulation. Or you needed the UPC from the box.
