No idea about $$$ and if they even ship to your location but I got my hands on a Backforce One Plus for 500€ and that thing is day and night compared to my last. Arm rests are a little bit wobbly but the rest… dead gods I hope it lasts for the rest of my life.
That’s from someone with a lot of back pain for… reasons.
Forgive me if I am hijacking the thread, but does anyone have a recommendation for a chair that can accommodate a big dude? Like 330 lbs or so? I ordered one off Amazon, and it didn’t last 6 months.
Want to drop some info here, not related to your question since it’s still out of your price range, but just for others who might be browsing, since I see HM chairs come up a lot in this thread and the other one.
A lot of these fancy ergo chairs work similar to other furniture and use a network of dealers. This is important, because dealers often sell for way less than MSRP, especially when they’re buying for clients making big offers for office buildings buildouts. Some dealers can get you a great price by basically adding your chair to a big order for another client. I wanted a HM Embody and talked to 3 dealers in my area. One of them was able to get me the chair for about $1000, and this was also customized with the fabric that I wanted. Really shows the huge markup that MSRP is on this kind of item. Dealers are sometimes also willing to give you a loaner so you can try the chair at home before you buy.
Tekken8 reignited my love of fighting games as I used to play tekken3 all those years ago. The rampant cheating effectively encouraged by the company behind it prompted me to buy street fighter 6 and what a great game it is
Dhalsim is amazing! It’s great how you zone your opponent, shoot them out of the air when they try to jump you and so on, then when they least expect it you teleport in their face and rush them down. Feels so good when it works. Anyone else here playing fighting games?
Seems like you have a lot of good suggestions already, but more couldn’t hurt.
I bought the following chairs (also from Staples coincidently) in 2022, and both have been great, but it looks like they’ve gone up in price.
TempurPedic 6400 Fabric Computer and Desk Chair Black TP6400BLK - $279.99 at time of purchase
TempurPedic Mesh Back Fabric Computer and Desk Chair Black TP6450BLKMB - 299.99 at time of purchase
Regardless of what chair you end up deciding on, the put it in your cart and wait a few days a trick is always helpful, and I would definitely recommend googling coupons for wherever you purchase it from.
I’ll second the suggestion of Secretlab. Pretty sure mine was in the £400ish price range, and it’s really nice for gaming.
Go part of the way through purchasing one, and then close the tab. Within a day or two you’ll probably have a discount coupon. It’s my favourite trick for buying expensive stuff.
I’ve had mine since early 2020 and it’s identical to the day I purchased it. Faux leather doesn’t look the slightest bit damaged or fatigued. (I liked it so much, I got the rest of all their products…)
Third Secretlab, it’s still pricy but far more affordable than HM, has all the lumbar support, and whilst it looks gamer-y it lacks the awful shoulders that makes it bad for you so it’s actually comfortable.
I had to WFH at my parents for 1 day the other week, couldn’t believe how bad my back pain got from 1 day in a crappy office chair. Their support was good too, my magnet head rest kept falling down so they sent me a brand new one
I used a secretlab Titan for 6 years. Currently looking to replace it, but that’s only because the faux leather is starting to peel away. Really solid investment, super comfy.
For OP, I likely tried the $1400 chair that was recommended (Steelcase Gesture) and just sent it back. Decent chair but just didn’t work for me.
Autonomous has really good marketing and sells a really cheap chair that they probably buy for $80 at an insane markup. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not too terrible. I’ve sat in one before, and it’s certainly better than those stupid “gamer” chairs, but please understand what you are buying.
If you are considering them, tbh I would just go directly to a seller on Alibaba like:
Personally if I were you, I would look at buying a used Steelcase Leap. I bought one in leather in 2015 for $430 including shipping off eBay. Bought another one from a local dealer that had a ton from an office closeout and paid like $300. I’m looking on eBay right now and seeing pretty similar prices for used and refurbs.
I got a used Herman Miller Sayl for $175. It’s not the best chair in the world, but it’s pretty good. There may be used office furniture stores in your area. I’d start there.
I second the used office chair store option. I got mine there for like $300, and while it was a color I wouldnt usually go for (lime green), it solved my back pain virtually overnight. Have had it like 3 years now, it’s great and will probably last forever
I have a Secretlab chair that I like. Which model is right for you depends on your size. I paid about $500 for mine. They often have $100 off coupons.
I often see some pretty comfortable chairs at Costco for < $300, if you live near one. The savings on the chair alone would more than cover the cost of a 1 year membership.
Seconding the Secretlab chair. For someone who works from home and would play PC games at the exact same desk when work ended, it made sense to invest in a chair beyond my $30 IKEA one and has held up pretty well over the last several years.
The other benefit with Costco is that they have an extremely generous return policy.
Some obvious stuff has different rules (electronics is 90 days, stuff like tires that have clear expected lifespans have their own rules), but it is extremely liberal. And my experience is that I pretty rarely have to use it, because while not everything is a premium product for a bargain price, they tend to ensure that the suppliers for products they sell have reasonable build quality and make stuff that isn't trash designed to fail.
Hmm interesting. DE is definately the better port, and minimum requirements were an intel 4000 chip, so I figured it would run on most laptops by now.
I guess you could always download the original from Archive.org. you would need to patch some stuff (I recall the water textures not working well on modern hardware) but should still work :)
