Just finished Echoes of the Eye (Outer Wilds DLC) last week, now trying Hollow Knight again. I’ve tried before, I love the game, I just don’t playany side-scrolling metroidvanias and even with the map and the pins I get lost and overwhelmed.
This time I’m trying to just go with the flow a bit more, not get too hung up on mentally mapping out every twist and turn, and so far I’m making much better progress (I think). Gonna stick with it.
Mostly Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Feels like this game took half a step forward and two steps back, compared to the first part. It tries to do a lot of things and doesn’t do many well. There’s minigames-ish for so many things. The open-world stuff kinda tries to be Assassin’s Creed lite, but all zones are huge, but pretty empty, with the same two types of “events” in them (go somewhere or fight). Of course, the game has a shitty crafting system, so you can pick up material in the empty zones. Combat is a bit better than before, but then the devs managed to craft the perfect enemies to make some fights feel like hell, even worse than the worst fights in Remake, and I’m not even done with the game yet. I’ve played the game for 40 hours, but the story has barely moved. I think there’s supposed to be an alternate timeline, but I think I’ve seen like five minutes of it. It’s been pretty disappointing so far, but I still like the characters, so I’ll continue playing.
Then a bit Baldur’s Gate 3. Started another Honor Mode run, going with pretty much the same party build as my first run, where I almost made it. The full fighter playthrough has to wait for the next Patch.
Those were awesome as well. I just remembered the necropolis faction as well, I think it was in 3 that you could get insane numbers of skeletons / skeleton archers. Probably 5 as well.
I think the NPCs did that in KCD1 if you were dirty, had high charisma but a fancy armor or similar. It feels like it works similarly in KCD2, since their demeanor changes significantly when switching from peasant clothes to a proper armor. Don’t have knights armor or any other fancy outfits yet though, so I can’t tell for KCD2.
Songs of Conquest is a spiritual successor you might be interested in checking out. I agree HoMM3 is still great to revisit and SoC doesn’t quite scratch the exact same itch but it’s a good way to get more of the same but with some variety keeping it fresh
Am I the only one who really liked HoMM 4? I reinstall that every couple of years. Loved the fact the heroes were more active in combat. HoMM 3 is great too of course.
To be honest, it’s still a little hectic for me, but I feel the most notable change is that you can avoid being countered / masterstriked. By positioning your weapon, you can block, perfect block (allows you to strike back) or masterstrike which remains unblockable. There is now an interesting back and forth between blocking, striking back and being blocked, which can go on forever - until someone has no stamina left or someone pulls off a masterstrike.
Interesting! Is it still hard as heck in 1v2? The first game lock your target in combat by default and it’s hard to see, react, or shift between enemies, the game simply not allow me to do so reliably that i keep dying very early into the game. I remember i have to mod it to make it so it’s easier to do so.
Yes, you don’t want to fight against more than one enemy, the game even has a tutorial with a stylistic drawing of you lining up the enemies in a line, so that only one can engage you at any time. I managed to pull this off with two enemies, with three you would need to tank some hits.
