I use Cloudstream, it gets the job done.

theoldman, do piracy w With PLEX blocking Hetzner Hosting, I'm thinking of Moving to Jellyfin, but I have some questions.

If you are concerned about privacy, don’t use Plex or any other software which use central servers to collect your data. They can literally see where you click on the screen, let alone what kind of hosting you use. Jellyfin on the other hand is open source and don’t phone home. Also if a software is free, it doesn’t mean it was easy to create it in the first place. So please consider donation or support the project.

Cranksta,

The other option is Emby. It’s based on the same code, and is just another division of the same project. You pay for it, but it gets tons of support and more features as a result. Both projects have pros and cons but I’m leaning further to Emby than Jellyfin myself.

I love far cry 2 the most. It was more realistic and really made you work for those villages/settlements.

I haven’t played far cry 2 yet. I heard the realism kinda messes with the fun in a way, like the malaria and the guns breaking gets in the way of the objectives

CookieJarObserver, do piracy w Is It Farewell To The Internet Archive?

Internet Archiv will go .onion

@CookieJarObserver@sh.itjust.works avatar

Federate it!

totallynotfbi,

That only helps for shadow libraries whose operators are unknown. The Internet Archive, on the other hand, is a registered non-profit organisation, so how would they be able to hide themselves?

AAA,

Just like the OG Pirate Bay. They closed down, and someone else, unknown, took over.

That’s not unproblematic ofc as the new owner can do whatever they want without the oversight of the non-profit.

NotSteve_, (edited )

It’d be harder for IA since they have hundreds of PBs of hard drives. You need like a warehouse for it so it’s a lot harder to hop around

CookieJarObserver,
@CookieJarObserver@sh.itjust.works avatar

They could give the entire data as download and others could take over

totallynotfbi,

It’s not so simple, unfortunately. The sheer amount of data they have - 212 PB as of December 2021 - makes it practically impossible for most people to mirror. Unless they physically hand over all 745 server nodes to another operator, there’s no way of someone

There are some solutions to this - for example Archive-Team has proposed a method of mirroring the Internet Archive using distributed clients, although this method currently only has a fraction of the total dataset. Still, at this point in time, there’s no real solution to resharing IA’s data in the event they go under

turkalino,

how would they be able to hide themselves?

It’s literally in the name for a .onion website: hidden service

Tor hides the identity of servers just as much as it does for client users. So as long as the IA hosts in a country where publishers don’t have jurisdiction, I believe they’ll be fine

WarmApplePieShrek,

Customs and emigration will notice the hundreds of server racks on a boat

OverfedRaccoon, (edited ) do piracy w What are the best alternatives to The Pirate Bay in 2023?

I like sites that are aggregators of content (no one site, necessarily). I think the best move is to find release groups you like the quality of and trust. From there, find out where they upload. I was a big fan of RARBG remuxes (x265) and RARBG-affiliated TV release groups, so it took a bit to find acceptable and consistent replacements. It’s worth the effort.

Junkernaught,

Who did you replace them with?

OverfedRaccoon,

For movies, PSA slotted right in the quality/size hole RARBG left for x265 movies. There’s groups with better quality at higher filesizes (like QxR), but the ~2GB 1080p stuff PSA puts out suits my needs well.

TV is a little eh. XEN0N is where I ended up, but definitely isn’t on par with ION10/ION265. I haven’t found a great catch-all replacement. But I haven’t had to grab a ton of TV lately, to be honest.

Junkernaught,

Thank you!

Varsico,

You’d probably like Pahe.in releases, I also landed on PSA (I use it for both movies & tv) and Pahe is pretty close to it in quality/size. Pahe doesn’t have torrents tho, but I think their GDrive and Mega links are pretty easy to get to; compared to some of PSA’s direct downloads you only need one real countdown and less than 10 clicks to get the file

After more than thirty hours and hours of discussions with a friend who knows Pathfinder and stuff, I've finally beaten the first boss of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous!

My character finally created, I got through the intro cutscene thingle, threw a dart, saved, and am in bed waiting to become asleep 🤣

(The joke is that the character creation is so interesting, involved, and/or difficult that it counts as a boss fight just choosing a character class to start with 😅 Also yes it did actually according to Steam take me nearly forty hours to defeat said boss 😅)

ConstableJelly,

Good Ness, I was going to express concern for you for spending that much time on character creation, but then I watched the Mortismal new player guide and…that looks overwhelming in a possibly good way.

morphballganon, do nintendo w Switch controllers vibrate extremely loudly: defective?

What type of controller? Pro?

PlutoniumAcid, (edited )
@PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world avatar

I’m sorry, I don’t understand. It’s the normal Nintendo Switch (OLED) and those two controllers that come with it which slot into the sides.

all-knight-party,
@all-knight-party@kbin.cafe avatar

It's hard to really say, when they vibrate, depending on the intensity that the game feeds the controller, the vibration is absolutely audible, it will never be silent, so it is a little hard to say with no audio feedback whether they're louder than they're supposed to, depending on the game.

NOT_RICK,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

Those are called Joycons. I would say they can get pretty loud but I suppose that depends on the game. Have you noticed a difference after starting a new game or did you notice it on the same game you’ve been playing before they got extra loud? Also, is the excessively loud noise coming from one joycon or both?

PlutoniumAcid,
@PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world avatar

Thank you; I will check and respond again.

Daefsdeda,

Let me just say that I disabled vibration cause when me and my so are chilling it can be quite annoying for how loud it is, especially in some specific games

morphballganon,

Joycons. Interesting, my joycons are pretty quiet, and I have two pairs (four pairs in the family). Are they loud in certain games and not others? Which game(s) have the worst vibrations?

PlutoniumAcid,
@PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world avatar

Apparently it’s mostly in one game, WRC 10.

I guess it means the hardware is okay and that one game is crap.

bighi,

I have never even heard my joycons vibrating unless they’re vibrating against a solid surface like a table or the floor.

luciole, do gaming w Does anyone know of any kid-friendly "horror" games out there for children ~7 years old?
@luciole@beehaw.org avatar

OK hear me out: Minecraft in survival. For real. Nothing jump scares like a creeper going “psshht” in your back, telegraphing that you’re about to die in a destructive explosion. As you walk a narrow path over a chasm of lava in the Nether, the wail of the Ghast might make you fall out of sheer panic before it even shoots at you. The Warden is a special kind of scary too, as it’s nearly unkillable and will detect you by the noise you make. It sounds kind of silly but there’s plenty of players making the remark that Minecraft survival is basically horror.

And it’s all in a child friendly, non gory, voxel style.

tias,

Yeah that shit scared me when I played it at 40 years old. It kind of wears you down when you walk around in dark caves for hours on end.

Another alternative might be Subnautica. It has some jump scares but mostly it’s just the Deep Unknown that gives you chills. Few things in that game are actually dangerous.

BubblyMango,

+1 for minecraft.

You can try mineclone2 if you dont wanna pay.

nunchuk,
@nunchuk@lemmy.bigsecretwebsite.net avatar

+1 to this, when I was like 11-12 playing Minecraft, it took me a solid year or so to overcome my fear of going into caves.

sincle354,

Aw man, preparing for the nether and writing down my coordinates, terrified of ghasts and facing blazes for as long as I could stand it. I still prepare for any excursion from my base like a packrat.

Abnorc,

While we’re at it with non-horror games: the level that introduced the flood in Halo CE really gave me a scare. I don’t know what it says about me, but I invited a friend over to play that level with me, lol. It’s a bit of a reach not being a horror game, but a great game with some tension here and there.

Qbittorrent:

In the menu theres a search engine you can activate

It requires python but it will more or less auto install it all for you.

Go to the new tab and in the bottom theres a link to a page where you can download plugins for the search function (or maybe you need to just search first? Its been a while… lol)

Download the ones you want. (I just downloaded them all), and throw them into a folder (its all .py files)

Tell the search plugin to install the plugins from that folder. It can inatall them all at once. Just press OK to the ones that might be outdated.

Search for something. Sort/filter as needed, and download.

You can basically download most torrents without opening a browser.

Alternatively the megathread is decent

ArcaneSlime,

To add to this:

Do this, but instead of “add the ones you want” just add Jackett, then go to their github (you can actually get there through the “add the ones you want” menu in qbit, click

search -> search plugins -> “You can get new search engine plugins here: [URL]” -> [In the sidebar of that page] click “How to configure Jackett plugin” -> click “Jackett” to get to their repo and “this address” to get the stuff to copy for your jackett.py file for qbit and stick it in the right folder, which will depend on your OS.

Started playing RDR2 after playing almost all games from the top of my backlog. Folks kept telling me RDR2 would ruin other games for you, so I saved it for the last. I’m still in the first chapter and I like it a lot. I like how it’s slow paced, feels more like a simulator so far. I’m also bit worried as folks told me you can miss certain side quests if you advance too fast, so I want to ignore all the main quest missions as much as possible. This caused my horse to die due to harsh winters right in the beginning coz I thought I should venture out a bit :p

I’ve also started playing Metro 2033, it’s a slow start and the controls are a bit wonky, but seems like a simple linear game so far.

Seathru,

I’m also bit worried as folks told me you can miss certain side quests if you advance too fast,

Yeah if you’re wanting to do as many side missions as possible, it’s best to do all the white colored missions first. The yellow one’s aren’t going anywhere and they are sometimes chapter milestones that can lock you out of side missions. But I wouldn’t worry too much about it. A. There are so many quests that are only available at a certain time/place or after certain events, you’ll never hit them all in one play through. and B.

spoilerYou can play a lot of the side missions you missed in the epilogue. Albeit with different dialog.

Take your time and enjoy it, definitely worth it.

Now I’m going to have to fire it up later just to spend a couple hours roaming the wilderness camping, hunting, and fishing with my “Never leaving chapter 3 Arthur”
