Yes, though it’s mostly been my partner that has been playing! She’s gotten into a gameplay loop of gearing up, heading to the furthest teleport point, exploring until she finds the next, and coming back to re-equip and work on the base stuff. mid-30s level I think, the base is pretty neat too
I’ve been having a blast. I’ve played other survival games but they rarely feel interesting to me, I haven’t delved this deep into since Conan Exiles (which now that I think about it also has a mechanic of capturing people to work/defend your base)
There are a few issues I’ve had. The worst are when playing on a dedicated server, I often lose connection and I load back in under the world. The worst is when offline my pals are unable to care for themselves and they’re all weakened and depressed when I log back on, the only solution right now is to put them back in the box before logging off.
The other two are obviously good, but seriously try Captain of Industry! Nothing like watching your mining operations slowly but surely terraform the face of your island lol
It’s good but as a fan of survival games like Minecraft, Rust, Valheim and Grounded it leaves a lot to be desired in that aspect of the game. It feels really early access (which yeah I guess it is so I’ll concede on that) and feature non-complete. With that being said, I’m still coming back to it and enjoying it.
P.S. I’m also on gamepass and have sunk a few hours into cloud gaming as well and it’s pretty good. As soon as Microsoft start adding something like native upscaling to xbox cloud gaming they’re gonna be on a whole other level of playability.
YouTube kept recommending Fallout: New Vegas videos, so I’ve been doing a mostly bee-nice NCR run. Did main quest up to the dam, currently working my way through Honest Hearts (did Old World Blues super early for the implants).
Still trying to finish Pillars of Eternity. The level scaling is all sorts of weird with the White March content. The game's original level cap was 12, I think, and I'm there now, close to 13. Since both your to-hit chance and all of your defense stats are significantly affected by leveling up, some areas are ridiculously easy, and a few areas are ridiculously hard. I can waltz through the majority of combat encounters and then end up in one where all of their magic casters immediately stun/paralyze me or knock me down for about 10 seconds straight, rendering me completely unable to defend myself, and the fight ends poorly in hardly any time at all. And what sucks is that I know it'll be a cakewalk if I come back and do this fight in like 2 levels, because enough of my party will survive the dice rolls that lead to characters being paralyzed for so long, so that I can properly respond and keep my party alive. I hope they adjusted this stuff in the sequel, which I do intend to start right after I finish this game.
I also picked up Tekken 8. I have historically not been a Tekken fan. The movement is weird, and the characters feel like they all do kind of the same thing, which takes a lot of the fun out of a fighting game where you get to select a character. At least it's a full package. I went through the arcade story mode, which is a much-needed tutorial after the complete lack of any such thing in Tekken 7. The cinematic storyline, which I haven't finished yet, seems to have gotten rid of the biggest problem with Tekken 7's story mode, which was that narrator who made the craziest anime nonsense seem boring. And as for the character stuff, the Heat system does add in a pinch of flavor that incentivizes you to do something somewhat unique with your character in order to stay in Heat mode longer; for instance, if I'm playing King, doing his powerful grab moves will extend his Heat meter, which means it's rewarding you for playing him the way he ought to be at his coolest. We'll see how that goes. Unfortunately, the online mode has been a no-go. There's a problem right now where playing the game through Proton just results in a lot of disconnects, so I've hardly been able to finish a match, and I likely won't try again until I see some patch notes acknowledging that they've fixed the issue, either on Bandai-Namco's side or Valve's side or both.
New Diablo 4 season started, so I'm playing that. I'm a Barbarian this time, level 80, trying out a Thorns build.
The beginning was extremely boring, and I was thinking about stopping altogether or switching characters, but after I got some items, it became less miserable.
As for the new season mechanic, it's kinda whatever. It's not as bad as I thought, but last season was definitely more fun.
Don’t Starve I already can’t stand Tim Burton’s style, and I really can’t get over the similarities to try to enjoy this game, even though one of my autistic special interests is open world survival crafting games.
Fallout 4 Seems like a perfectly fine FPS, very much not a Fallout game. Leans far too heavily on action and not enough on the RPG elements.
GTA 5 If GTA were a candy, GTA 5 would be a bucket of that candy. It’s fine if you really really really like that candy, but if you’re just not THAT obsessed with the candy, it can get a bit tiring. Having three people with different stories and event going on felt like I never spent enough time with one character to REALLY get into their development. I’d rather see them innovate than just do MORE GTA
I’m with you on FO4. The voiced protagonist is bad for my roleplay and the storyline with my So and baby are all loaded unto me, and I couldn’t give a damn about both of them. The shooting was better than in FO3, I give them that. Now my hopes are high for fallout London to combine the shooting and give me a story where I can immerse myself more
I thought FO3 was a great way to revive the series in a way that would keep interest in it for newer generations. With how Starfield seems to be going, how FO76 went, how Skyrim was compared to past versions of Elder Scrolls, I’m not sure I’ll trust anything that Bethesda spits out until long after release.
God of war Ragnarök - kinda meh, unskippable cutscenes, pseudo cutscenes, mediocre story, worst/laziest difficulty design (enemies are damage sponges at higher difficulties), playable Atreus. Glad I got a used copy for relatively cheap and can regain most of my money.
I couldn’t get into the souls games themselves but fell hard for Bloodborne and Sekiro. Elden Ring has been hard to get into. The open world really detracts from the game which is disappointing because everything else is really polished.
I also hate souls games and Bloodborne didn’t feel much different.
I think the key issue is that Hidetaka Miyazaki is a masochist and I’m very much not. I don’t enjoy fighting the same boss dozens of times being taken down in 3 hits. Even when I win, I feel more tired than satisfied. I’d rather play a more traditional hack’n slash or some other action RPG where if some boss is too much of a pain I grind a little then stomp them.
I enjoyed Dark Souls 1 and 2 a lot, having played through the first one multiple times. I never tried the others with the exception of Elden Ring, and the difficulty just put me off. Something about the first game made it much more tolerable for me. I think it was the overall speed at which enemies move and their combos being more predictable.
They are extremely tedious, needlessly arduous games.
I think that is in part why I loved them all. It brought me into a different mental state where I wasn’t going to be able to rush. I enjoyed that aspect.
My mind can often wander on to various subjects as well, so there was this perverse meditative aspect because of the tension of knowing that I had to constantly focus on the game or it would just kill me in one of its various, unfair ways.
