MajorHavoc, (edited ) do games w “Literally just a copy”—hit iOS game accused of unauthorized HTML5 code theft

Misleading title -looks like all assets, functionality, and code were stolen, not just some HTML.

20,000 downloads at $3

The ripoff artist made $42,0000.00. Apple made $18,000.00.

The original creator made ~$2,000.00, after TikTok comments pointed people to the original.

And

“Apple encourages the parties to a dispute to work directly with one another to resolve the claim.”

Apple facilitated theft, and owes this developer $60,000.00 if they lose in court. But they know they don’t have to lose in court, because they can spend $6,000,000.00 or more on lawyers, forever, to set a precedent to discourage others from suing.

Not quite that much ;)

cocolowlander, do esa w When Europe needed it most, the Ariane 6 rocket finally delivered

Arianespace hasn’t publicly disclosed the cost for an Ariane 6 launch, although it’s likely somewhere in the range of 80 million to 100 million euros, about 40 percent lower than the cost of an Ariane 5. This is about 50 percent more than SpaceX’s list price for a dedicated Falcon 9 launch.

With more launch, the price per rocket should decrease, but making it cost competitive will be an important mission if EU wants to launch hundreds of satellites in the future.

threelonmusketeers,

With more launch, the price per rocket should decrease

Should it? Are you referring to amortizing the costs of development, or optimizing the production cost of each rocket? No portion of Ariane 6 is reusable, so it’s not like they can get more launches out of each rocket…

cocolowlander,

Are you referring to amortizing the costs of development

Yes, I was thinking more amortizing the costs of development which will definitely get cheaper the more launch happening, but I guess it’s also possible for optimization of production, although I’m not expecting much from that.

gravitas_deficiency, do astronomy w White House may seek to slash NASA’s science budget by 50 percent

Wow, the government agency with literally the best long term ROI by an order of magnitude is getting its budget cut. Cool cool cool.

derzeppo,

Well the IRS is about the same at $7 revenue per $1 spent, but yeah.

BigMacHole, do astronomy w White House may seek to slash NASA’s science budget by 50 percent

Woah! We just found a FREE half of Nasa’s Budget not being used! We should GIVE IT to President Elon Musk!

muhyb, do astronomy w White House may seek to slash NASA’s science budget by 50 percent

That should help to put a flag on Mars.

mindbleach, do astronomy w White House may seek to slash NASA’s science budget by 50 percent

Get rid of Elmo.

quickenparalysespunk, do games w Six ways Microsoft’s portable Xbox could be a Steam Deck killer

it will most likely run steam, so it will not be any kind of steam deck “killer”. more like “sibling”.

supersquirrel, do games w Six ways Microsoft’s portable Xbox could be a Steam Deck killer

lol fat chance Microsoft is capable of launching a new hardware line and having the competency and staying power to be sucessful in 2025, maybe 5 years ago, but not today.

newthrowaway20,

They couldn’t do it 5 years ago either.

epicsninja,

10 years ago Michaelsoft launched their own VR headset, which was such a flop you probably don’t even know it happened.

BroiledShit,

I think that was the thing that gave us Young Conker, ms really knows how to use those IPs it has.

DoucheBagMcSwag, do games w Six ways Microsoft’s portable Xbox could be a Steam Deck killer

Beware when sensationalized journalists use the word “killer” cause it usually means they’re full of shit

Remember how HAZE was going to be the “halo killer?”

Remember xDefiant was the “call of duty killer?”

Ars lost a fuck ton of points from me for this dog shit sensationalized title

LucasWaffyWaf,

How many Halo killers have we forgotten about at this point?

smeg,

Apart from the bait title it’s a reasonable article. If they’d have called it “Six things Microsoft need to do for their portable Xbox to compete with the Steam Deck” it could have had exactly the same content.

breadsmasher, do games w Six ways Microsoft’s portable Xbox could be a Steam Deck killer

It probably won’t look exactly like this, but could you imagine if it did?

yeah. its looks awful.

Kelly,

Xbox one era d-pad shows a real attention to detail

tacotroubles, do games w Six ways Microsoft’s portable Xbox could be a Steam Deck killer

Just a bunch of what ifs… that all hinge on Microsoft not doing bare minimum to get a product out.

aislopmukbang, do games w Six ways Microsoft’s portable Xbox could be a Steam Deck killer

LOL. Remember the Zune? Or Windows Phone?

What I am saying is it may be brilliant but Microsoft has a long history of being too late to the party for it to matter.

Good luck guys, do let us know how it turned out.

  • A bespoke user interface
  • A gaming-focused OS
  • [Play] More than just Xbox
  • Bring old Xbox games to PC
  • Multiple hardware tiers
  • “Made for Xbox”

Steam Deck already does 1, 2 and 3.
Now pair it with constant nags (Enhance your experience by signing into a Microsoft account, Subscribe to Gamepass! Have you tried Copilot???), and Microsoft’s inability to ever add anything new to their controllers (bye bye Gyro and Touchpads) and you’ve lost me.

I’m OOTL on the news around this device, but if the joysticks that they install in the thing are just as shitty as the joysticks that they put in current Xbox controllers then there’s no chance I’d even consider buying one

warmaster, do games w Six ways Microsoft’s portable Xbox could be a Steam Deck killer

I’m sure MS will shoot themselves in the foot.
