I don’t wish for game developers at Ubisoft to lose their jobs, I want them to be employed somewhere that doesn’t torpedo the end product of their talent.
Took me a sec to find it on first scan of the article, so highlighting this bit for those curious about the other games:
. . . Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake has been cancelled, as well as four unannounced titles, including three new IPs and a mobile title. The identity of the sixth game has not been clarified.
and the delayed games have not been clarified yet either. From the related article:
In addition, Ubisoft said it’s delayed seven games to ensure they meet quality expectations. It did not say which games had slipped, but confirmed that the seven titles include one title that was planned for release before April 2026, which will now be released before April 2027.
Crazy that the Sands of Time remake was supposed to come out early 2021… Remakes are supposed to be quick projects for easy money, how could Ubisoft mess it up that much? Sands of Time isn’t even a long game!
One was a cancelled mobile game but now I’m curious what the other 4 were. I guess we’ll never find out as they funnel all that money to their successful live-service stuff.
to save you a click: the “problem” that was “fixed” is that the new joycons weren’t colorful enough. so dbrand (the “peripheral firm”) made decals with more prominent colors.
They do seem to have quality products though. Got a Steamdeck skin from them and it fit really well.
Will however never order again because the import tax I paid on it was ridiculuous, not dbrands fault, I just hadn’t ordered anything from US Canada for a while… and now won’t anymore.
I agree with the fact that they aren’t a great company, but anyone who’s shopped around for skins/decals knows that dbrand is a cut above the rest in terms of quality. I’ve stopped buying from them due to how they run things, though.
