Seems Pierre has struck down the steam deck update rumor:
“There is and will be no Z2 Steam Deck. Guessing the slide was meant to say the series is meant for products like that, not announcing anything specific.”
As someone who got a new release AMD card in late 2023, I am a bit disappointed that there’s no support of even the newest cards for this… I have also never used 3.0 because of the limited number of games that support it, so it’s kind of ridiculous they are already onto an even more exclusive 4.0.
They made FSR vendor-agnostic for reasons that turned out to be irrelevant in the long run. It was just couple of years ago when games supported DLSS only and engines weren’t ready for plugging multiple different upscaling solutions. Nvidia and AMD tried to get exclusivity deals and things seemed fire for a moment. AMD hoped FSR would be enough for smaller players to adopt it but being vendor-agnostic handicapped them so much that everyone developed their own solution anyway (PSSR, XeSS). Not that it really matters that much because in the end modern AA gives similar results to old FSR and game devs will use what works best.
I use optiscaler to use dlss on amd it just converts it to fsr 3.1 or xess. I use the experimental release with frame generation to manage to play games that dont quite have a stable fps on my minipc as well as my steam deck.
What even is the point, though? The number of games made specifically for the PS5 can be counted on 1 hand and it’s not like those have significant performance issues that warrant even more powerful hardware.
Do any of these bigger numbers mean one would at least be able to play an existing game in 4k with ray tracing at higher than 30fps?
At first I thought, they’re releasing this news now to drown out the Concord news, but 30 year anniversary, maybe they did have this planned a little longer. 🙃
would really love playstation to come out with a hybrid switch/steam deck design because i honestly can’t comprehend having a console that i can’t take with me and play on the go anymore.
