Netflix has games?

Thavron,
@Thavron@lemmy.ca avatar

On mobile, yes. You can even play GTA 3, VC and SA

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

they can be easily patched to bypass Netflix account requirements btw, you only miss out on cloud saves

Really? How? I’ve been wanting to play World of Goo again but the only version available is the netflix one

Link doesn’t work in Australia I’m afraid - lots of corporations have a big thing for giving us the shitty end of the stick.

vox,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

wait what?
the original port isn’t supposed to be region locked?
but also it doesn’t work on android 14 anymore, Play Store gives me an error saying it’s not compatible with the device.

Dalek_Thal,
@Dalek_Thal@aussie.zone avatar

Far as I can tell, the original port’s apk isn’t region locked, so much as the play store page is. Either that, or people who didn’t buy it before the netflix port went up can no longer view the page.

Kali, do games w Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 2 to be "chonky" with fixes for performance issues and more

I hope they fix that memory leak that makes the game impossible to play after 3 hours…25gb of ram used 😂

mothersprotege,

Weird that I’ve logged multiple 3+hour sessions on my low-end PC with zero crashes. I guess I’ve accomplished the impossible!

skullone,

The memory leak issue may only affect certain hardware or drivers maybe?

Kali,

I have 7800x3d 32gb ddr5 and a 3070 so pretty good setup…

fushuan,

it’s not really what’s good or not, some devices function weird with some stuff. I’ve had the game open for the whole day or more and the only I ssue I had, before upgrading to 32GB (Had 16) is that the game went to the swap after alt tabbing for some time since it seems like nowadays 16 is nothing if you have 20 tabs open (don’t judge me), discord, telegram, nvidia broadcast (takes 1 gig) and some other shit. In any cast, after switching back it took 2-3 minutes of moving stuff to the ram again and it all worked well.

Now that I have 32 GBs of ram I have had zero issues with the game, I believe it takes something like 6-7GB.

For reference I have a 5800 and a GTX 3080, but this is more of an issue with the API calls they are using and how is the processor runing those calls and how they interact with memory.

skullone,

It has nothing to do with the performance of your hardware and everything to do with hardware/firmware/driver/software compatibility bugs.

orbitz,

Here I am wondering when I’ll get three hours in a row to play a game. No kids even just life but wife around so things get limited compared to living alone. Mean if a safe and reload works, least that doesn’t take too long.

Kali,

I have a kid I am playing right when he goes to sleep then I forget that I need sleeping so I wake up extremely tired…repeat till complete shut down

lemillionsocks, do gaming w Baldur’s Gate 3 had to be scaled back for the Series S, but the console still has a right to exist
@lemillionsocks@beehaw.org avatar

Also while it’s neat that they made the game as pretty as they did, this is at the end of the day an isometric turn based crpg. It shouldnt be that hard to scale down.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

It’s not exactly isometric considering you can tilt and zoom the camera and get it all the way down to over the shoulder adventure style, allowing you to see off into those beautiful vistas. It has some performance issues even on PC in some places like the mountains and the namesake city.

rotmulaaginskyrim, do gaming w Baldur’s Gate 3 had to be scaled back for the Series S, but the console still has a right to exist

Article is well written, and I agree with most of it actually.

stopthatgirl7,

Microsoft did the right thing by softening their stance on system parity. Insisting on it would have hurt the Xbox further along the line, but now devs know they can still release on Xbox if they can’t get one or two features to run on the S.

Facebones,

I didn’t know it wasn’t on Xbox, that’s GOTTA be hurtin em. I’m sure they’ll learn from this and make whatever exceptions need to be made far earlier next time.

lemmyvore,

If I’m not mistaken the only reason it’s not already on Xbox is because Microsoft insisted it needs to have shared screen on all models, which proved to be problematic and eventually impossible on S, but they refused to release it on X in the meantime.

Basically it’s very much Microsoft’s own doing.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

We don't know that it's impossible on the S. It may yet happen sometime after launch.

lemmyvore,

Oh I see, I thought the dev team had pretty much given up on it.

stopthatgirl7,
!deleted7120 avatar

They’re still trying to get it to work and are working with Microsoft engineers, from the last I heard.

Spuddlesv2,

It’s not in PS5 yet either. Doesn’t come out for another week.

Facebones,

Ah, gotcha. IDK I’ve had it on PC for 2 years now haha.

VentraSqwal,

It’s already been hurting them a lot it sounds like. I don’t think Baldur’s Gate is the first game to not release on Xbox because they couldn’t achieve system parity with the S. If they’ve really softened on it, then that’s a good idea. Better late than never.

BlackSpasmodic,

Yeah feature parity made sense in the beginning so the S didn’t get left behind but at this point its place feels secure to me. It’s the cheap option. I think most gamers understand that and accept the trade-offs that are inherent in that choice.

Cowbee, do gaming w Starfield's latest update draws player ire by sticking a bounty hunting quest behind the Creation Club paywall

Scaldingly hot take: this is not a good thing, but one of the biggest criticisms of the Creation Club is that its content is just one off items and whatnot, and not enough quests. Well, there you go, a questline.

The Creation Kit might end up saving this game, too. I still think there are over 50% odds it pulls a Cyberpunk and is remembered fondly.

lvxferre, do games w Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's leads have some conflicting opinions on the term JRPG
@lvxferre@lemmy.ml avatar

[Nomura] And I’m not really sure what the intent behind that is.

You can’t be sure of the “intent” (whatever this esoteric word means) behind anything except your own actions and words. As such, it’s useless to ponder about it.

[Nomura] It just always felt a bit off to me, and a bit weird. I never really understood it – or why it’s needed

JRPG and WRPG are effectively two RPG subgenres. They could as well be called “storyline-driven RPG” and “mechanics-given RPG”, but given the relative prominence of Japanese designers behind JRPG, they ended being labelled based on being made in Japan vs. Europe+Canada+USA.

And just as any words referring to media genres, you aren’t supposed to take those as well-defined groups. It’s perfectly possible to get a bunch of Japanese game designers make a WRPG, or a bunch of Western/Canadian/American ones making a JRPG. In fact you’ll often see mechanics from one subgenre in the other. (Good examples of that would be Pokémon Red/Blue on one side and Undertale on another.)

[article writer] it’s always good to keep in these kinds of perspectives, and consider whether we need to drop it or not.

The association isn’t even remotely othering, given that it highlights the relative prominence of Japanese games in the RPG market.

[Nomura] Certainly, when we started doing interviews for the games that I started making, no one used that term – they just called them RPGs

And I bet that plenty people simply called it a “game”. Context. Use it, Nomura.

Sibbo, do games w A quarter of Starfield players couldn’t even be bothered to finish the first mission

Given that they have you meet a cowboy at the end of that mission, it is kinda understandable. I wonder who thought that having a cowboy as a main character would be a good idea for people outside of the US.

Sharpiemarker,

I wonder who thought that having a cowboy as a main character would be a good idea for people outside of the US.

What’s wrong with cowboys? The US was one of the first countries into space (2nd) and space explorers are often thought of as “space cowboys.”

🎵It’s been a long road🎵

pimento64,

Cowboys could easily appeal to people from Canada, Mexico, and Argentina as well. I’ve come across a disturbing number of British men who harbor secret fantasies of being wild west cowboys, so probably them too.

glimse,

I remember reading about a growing cowboy obsession going on in China a bit before COVID too lol

WarmSoda,

Oh shit, you’re right. They had a huge amount of photoshoots or ads or something all dressed up in cowboy clothes lol

glimse,

They were absolutely trying to appeal to Americans by making a cowboy character. Americans go nuts for cowboys. Everyone is downright obsessed with them. You can’t find a single home in the country without seeing cowboy memorabilia and they watch cowboy movies on the weekends, it’s crazy

bitsplease,

Be honest, do you actually live in the US? lol

I live in CA, literally entrenched in the history of “the old west” and I can honestly say not a single person I know has any cowboy memorabilia in their homes lol.

My dad had a little cast iron statue of a cowboy wrangling a bull on his desk at work growing up (a gift from a client) , but that is literally the only instance I can think of lol

And I also don’t know a single person who regularly watches cowboy movies, I can’t even remember the last time a cowboy movie was made in the US… I think that remake with Chris Pratt?

glimse,

I was being sarcastic. The guy is saying that cowboys don’t appeal to non-americans…as if Americans love to see cowboys or something

bitsplease,

Well shit, guess I got wooshed lol

WarmSoda,

Yup. Wednesday is national cowboy day.
Every week.

a4ng3l,

It’s a classic figure in western culture… and a fitting character given his story and the planet he’s from. We’ve had plenty cowboys in movies, comic strips and I’m from europe… Not my favourite setting but it works…

Zoot_,

Whats wrong with a space cowboy? His faction is often referred to as lawless and wild. They believe in a wild sort of freedom. Astronauts are kinda space cowboys anyway. Also space cowboys are not a new concept in media. What about a cowboy would make people not get the tutorial?

doleo,

It certainly put me off. Personally, I hate it when sci-fi writers use worn-out stereotypes in futuristic settings. Like the ‘Irish, but not Irish’ episode of StarTrek TNG.

I’d already seen a couple of streamers play random side quests, and this intro just made me definitively realise that this was not the game for me.
