Actually, it seems really well themed, a messed up reality show is exactly the kind of thing you might find in a vault. The thing to remember though, is that Vault-Tec is supposed to be satirical… Bethesda should not become Vault-Tec because that would be unethical… Right Bethesda… Right?
I don’t even get it. Everything after fallout 1 has no bearing on fallout 1. It’s exactly the same as it was when it was released. It’s not hard to not think about things you don’t like lol
It’s like how I can’t stand to watch Kevin Spacey movies after we all found out about who he is.
Does it mean he’s no longer a talented actor? No. Does it make his movies suck? No. Does it taint everything he ever did and now seeing him reminds you of how shitty he is as a person?
The crime doesn’t have to equate? Why bring up Kevin Spacey’s crimes at all? How is that relevant to not liking the direction a franchise went?
I don’t feel that “this franchise went in a bad direction, so now I can’t enjoy the previous works” is anything like “this person is a sexual predator, so now I can’t enjoy their previous works”.
It would be really awkward to watch a known sexual predator in a movie, even if the movie predates the crime. The existence of the Fallout TV show has no effect on Fallout 1 as a game.
I guess I’m truly not understanding the comparison. I do not see the similarity between having a series ruined because an actor is a sexual predator and having a series ruined because you don’t like the sequel. Not sure what part of those scenarios you were comparing, but I’m just not seeing it.
I’m half expecting Peter Thiel to say “maybe we should build a bunch of fallout shelters and then initiate a nuclear holocaust so we can outlast all our enemies, and also run some experiments while we’re at it” in an interview tomorrow, wearing a vault suit and giving a thumbs up.
Just get people to agree to live in crowded vaults and have them sign a waver accepting any and all psychological torture performed on them. That’s a functional Fallout reality show.
What if we made it Vault 68, 69, or 43. No psychological torture required for any of them. That or if you really want to fuck with someone we have Vault 77 or Vault 12, Vault 12 would be particularly vile since then you’d have to be in Bakersfield.
This is like designing a Game of Thrones fighting game.
You can throw all the clever nods you want into the product. You can read the source material to high heaven and spend all the time in the world perfecting it. You can hire the best and brightest fighting game devs to come in and design the best game ever.
Fundamentally it will never work. Game of Thrones’ charm is in its politics, feeling of isolation, and world building. There’s no way to bring anything out of that in a fighting game. As soon as you put Renly against Joeffry in a match to the death anyone that’s a fan will just look at the product befuddled.
For this reality show you’re taking a franchise that’s known for its single player experience and tight top notch writing for both the games (at least 1 and 2) and tv show and stripping that away in favor of a format that encourages none of that. All it’s going to be is some weird challenge with loser kids going “OMG I WASNT EXPECTING THAT!!” and “What. The. Fuck. “ for 30 minutes. It’s not going to be good. And it’s gonna be a shit stain on the franchise.
I think there’s a real angle there for something, in regards to the various vaults and what they are for. But I can’t see how that would convert to anything practically doable. But imagine squid game, basically, with each season being a different vault and a different experiment. Of course it can’t work as a reality show for obvious reasons, but I really do think it could be a hit show as a seasonal anthology series.
The tests and the vaults are a big part of the fallout lore after all, and part of it’s charm. I think there’s a lot there, even something that could work as a reality show were we not civilized and peaceful and instead allowed something like real life squid game concepts in reality shows.
What the hell? Premise they’re going with just makes it any other gameshow. Missed opportunity to have each “Vault” have some kind of unique experiment or twist.
That's fucking stupid. Why? Who asked for this? Just make the damn games. Maybe I'm biased because I think this sort of thing is unentertaining trash, but I legitimately don't think that Fallout fans like this sort of thing.
This isn’t for Fallout fans. It’s for people who watch Netflix/Prime and saw the Fallout show. Reality shows are pretty popular on these platforms (Beast Games is #2 on Prime right now) so that’s who they’re going after.
I mean, the show is decent enough, it was the first Fallout related thing I ever consumed, got me to play the games. Still think that this is pretty unrelated to that though. Not sure it'll succeed.
