pixel, (edited ) do gaming w Videogame fantasy settings are staler than mouldy bread right now
@pixel@beehaw.org avatar

I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 a ton over the past two years and honestly I’m really glad I’ve spent so much time in the setting, it’s so not traditional fantasy and it’s richer for it. I wish that more fantasy played with the expectations of the genre. Tolkien-esque fantasy is a great jumping off point but I wish authors/creators did more with it than just start and stop there

Really wish this game had controller support. I want to try it on the steam deck but only community bindings are available!

pixel,
@pixel@beehaw.org avatar

Yeah I agree, especially bc it’s on steam now and the steam deck puts a premium on games with controller support. But even on PC sometimes I feel like I’m short on buttons, but there’s probably some way to play comfortably on a controller and anet really aught to invest in it

Maven,
@Maven@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I got a Logitech MMO mouse, and it’s great, I can play onehanded for most things!

TowardsTheFuture,

With action cam it’s definitely playable with a controller but I doubt they’ll put in controller support because like… there’s a billion different bindings and everyone rebinds everything in their own so there’s not much point? Browse community bindings and find one that works for you/your character(s).

Maven,
@Maven@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Yesss I’ve been playing since Guild Wars 1, I was there when the last day dawned on the kingdom of Ascalon, and I looove how they’ve evolved the setting over the decades! I’ve run D&D games set in it, and it’s a great great time

Katana314, do games w Hero shooter Highguard reportedly didn't even pay for the Game Awards slot that's earned it so much preemptive hate—the showrunners thought it deserved the spotlight

I’m ambivalent on it, but definitely not negative. I hate that everyone watching big game shows is hoping to see “Ratchet & Kratos 7” or “Dark Lore 5” or “Metal Gear Sonic 11”. Especially since, as you know, every decent mid level game developer these days has been fired at least once by morons with MBAs, and so the industry must make new IPs from the scattered devs.

Its art doesn’t speak for itself, I think on multiplayer it usually doesn’t. We’ll have to see how it feels later.

We’re screwed.

panda_abyss, (edited ) do games w After Black Ops 7's weaker launch, Call of Duty will no longer do back-to-back releases in the same series

I saw it had robots and shit and noped out of even thinking about buying it.

I can’t keep up with what the current cod game is, they’re wannabee super hero babes games which bear zero resemblance to the original games. It’s a characature at this point.

Edit: fixed autocorrect typo.

Anything that pisses off milsim obsessed manchildren is a win in my eyes. You have hundreds of games at your disposal, go play them.

panda_abyss,

Huh?

I just think the game looks and plays bad. I’m clearly not the target demographic, but the older COD games I grew up with are a completely different tone/style/game to the modern arcade shooters.

I said I noped out of it, not that everyone should.

SalamenceFury,
@SalamenceFury@lemmy.world avatar

Here lies the problem: A lot of FPS players literally only want ONE fucking tone for EVERY FPS, which is like. Serious-looking milsim appearance that takes place in the present day. That’s it. They’ll literally attack any futuristic game as “it’s a mobile game” and “not realistic”, as if that should be the only thing that dictates if an FPS is good or not. I for one am tired of it, especially considering most of the people who are extremely anal about that are either chuds or fascists who want to roleplay as a super soldier fighting for the good ol’ US of A. So when people constantly talk about how “ah this thing has robots I don’t want to play it” it immediately triggers that suspicion in me.

Not to mention, this whole obsession with “realism” to me is absolutely stupid. I don’t need to see literally every pore on an old man’s face for my game to feel good. Hell, you have games like Hades II, Silksong, MOTHER 3, and a fuckton of other games that are just extremely good that none of those people try because they’re not realistic.

Krompus, do games w It turns out Saudi Arabia will own 93.4 percent of EA if the buyout goes through, which is effectively all of it
@Krompus@lemmy.world avatar

EA (Respawn) peaked at Titanfall 2 and hasn’t released anything good since. I set them to Ignore on Steam a few years ago.

zaphod,

Jedi Fallen Order was good though (also Respawn).

Krompus,
@Krompus@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah Respawn is a good dev, just a shame they got bought by EA and scrapped Titanfall 3.

real_squids,

And even then they massively fucked up by ignoring all the ddosing for years. It gave us Northstar but it’s a paid fucking game, come on man.

savvywolf, do gaming w Valve responds as indie horror studio accuses Steam of 'censorship' for banning its game about nude human 'Horses' (Update)
@savvywolf@pawb.social avatar

“It’s just horror, bro” with the same kind of energy as “it’s just a prank, bro”.

I’ve not played the game, but “person riding another person in horse gear” is absolutely a fetish thing, intentional or otherwise.

I think it absolutely would fall afoul of kiddie porn laws. Honestly, I think any depiction of a child in proximity to nudity probably would count.

FarceOfWill, do games w Uh oh: Ubisoft postpones its quarterly financial report at the last minute and halts stock trading

A lot of very confused people here who think an earnings delay means ubi havent made much money. Cant say if they have or not, but if they havent thats still not a reason for this kind of delay

MolochAlter,

It’s not that, it’s the trade halt that points to something major (and bad for them) happening.

Alaknar,

They haven’t been doing too well recently. The trade halt is because they’re afraid that everybody would read the halting of the report as admission they’re barely afloat and start dumping shares, killing the company.

FarceOfWill,

Right, If the truth is theyre barely afloat theyre not going to change anything by delaying the report. The time its reporting has passed.

Alaknar,

Which is what leads me to believe that they caught an error in the report and needed to re-print it. Halting it now wouldn’t change anything financially.

pinball_wizard,

If the truth is theyre barely afloat theyre not going to change anything by delaying the report.

Sure. Long term.

But I can’t help but wonder how much a motivated executive could embezzle using some additional time…

  1. I need help with Final Fantasy 7.

Buddy recommends this site I’ve not heard about, Game Facks.

It did not contain game FAQ’s.

Also, whitehouse.com, as was the style of the time.

goombakid, do games w To the rapidly aging person reading this: GameFAQs is 30 years old, and people are sharing their memories of the venerable guide hub

I remember being the first one to make a guide for the game “Bust A Move” (Rhythm dance game). I think it’s still there. My own little contribution to the gaming world.

kurushimi,

I feel this; I did the same but for Summoner 2. Man I loved that game. Tried getting back into it once and it was tough :(

kaklerbitmap,
@kaklerbitmap@lemmy.world avatar

Waa there a Bust a Move rhythm game? Are you thinking of Bust a Groove?

goombakid,

Yes and no. In the US, it was released as “Bust A Groove”. The original Japanese release (first release) was “Bust A Move”. That’s the game I first played and based the FAQ off of.

Had a binder for FFVIII. Printed the entire walkthrough from GameFAQs. Fond memories.
