Didn’t play Alan Wake 1 and 2 but I viewed the AW1 “let’s play” of @welonz and the AW2 “let’s play” of @coxclips. Just wanna share my thoughts re AW2. There are spoilers below.
So much reading. Yes, you can skip a lot of those. Yes, the title is Alan Wake 2 and Wake is a writer. But a gamer who very much dislikes reading may be turned off or think “I may be missing much by skipping most of the reading, so I’ll drop AW2.”
It seems Alice is alive. So she’s been living sans Alan for 13 years minimum. Extremely :(. I wanted a :) end for them. I can imagine an AW2 where the year is 2013 instead of 2023, and Alan was able to escape the “dark place” in 2013 and live with Alice happily. The writer (I dislike Sam Lake’s writing so I’m not saying Sam Lake) can figure out the plot gymnastics in between to make the game so interesting.
Scratch slew Jaakko Koskela so easyyy. So powerful. He could just slay Anderson, Casey, Cult of the tree and the Fbc at the start.
The Fbc’s light arrays placed far from each other outside the sheriff’s station were plot convenience.
Anderson aided Wake with writing the end despite Wake inserting Logan and David in the tale. 😑
Sarah and Barry were sidelined. :(
Sam Lake most likely disliked a fairy-tale :) end for AW2 but don’t say “In horror, the hero must pay a price to save his pals.” (or something like that) like it’s a rule.
I’ll have you know that I always use the Wii safety strap! Some call me weird for still walking around with that strap so many years after I sold my Wii, but I haven’t broken a single TV since then…
Jokes on you, I always used the safety strap on the Wiiz even if I was just in the menu. My neurodivergent ass brain wouldn’t let me hold the controllers without having the strap on
The secret trick was to play on a CRT. Wii could only do 480 output anyway, and there was the added benefit of CRTs having relatively thick glass so the Wiimote plastic would shatter first before the TV screen broke.
The people that broke TVs were either using LCDs or Plasmas.
This is gonna sound weird but when I game I don’t want to think about myself the in the corporeal sense.
Friends calling me by my name doesn’t bother me but I never tell online people my name and it feels weird if they find out and start using it.
Some friends do use my tag when they could use my name and it doesn’t bother me since we’re gaming, I guess it would be weird in a social context outside of the game
I play with a guy online games for over 10 years. I never met him, he lives on the other side of the planet. He knows my real name, my online name changes constantly. He still always calls me by the name i had when he met me. It’s pretty funny.
My name is one syllable, so hearing “noobmaster” or whatever to address me instead of my actual name is cringe. I prefer people just call me by my first name
I’m like the exact opposite - I never tell online-only friends my real name, but all my RL gamer friends know my gamertag and occasionally even use it. Hell, I like it enough that I used it here when I made the leap to Lemmy!
I generally really don’t like when people call me by my username in voice chat. Text is fine, but the moment I’m on a call with someone I’m telling em my first name because “hey flash” sounds really awkward
I’ve been called Seal Since the 90s, it seems natural to me.
The odd thing was back when my brother used my computer to play and everyone was calling him Seal. I’d hear that and it felt so strange. If the two of us were in a lobby right now and someone were to say, “yo seal!” we’d probably both reply.
I’d often hear, “who playin? Is it big Seal or little Seal?” “Umm, big Seal I guess.”
That’s pretty cool, had a friend have a similar situation where he used to play on his brother’s account (which had his brother’s real name) and he got pretty attached to it
The studio closed, alongside some major scandals about how badly they abused their employees. They were working on another game that ended up getting canceled when they closed down.
I believe Rockstar/Take Two still own the IP but have no interest in using it at this time, and it’s been long enough that not many people remember it or have much sentimental attachment, so I wouldn’t expect anything new anytime soon.
There was a VR version that came out a few years ago that sparked a brief revival, and initially it was really fun. But of course Rockstar doesn't care to maintain it, so now there's a ton of issues if you try to play it these days. Last I checked a lot of people who bought it where full on locked out because of activation key issues.
I’ve been to a convention before where someone has called out my online handle/gaming username. It was really funny.
The only time I was horrified was when I was requesting payment via P×ypal and someone mentioned my legal name. Felt like I was going to pass out for a second. I fucking hate P×ypal…
