This is what I’ve been saying. We don’t even own digital products, all it takes is a server to be taken down or an account to be lost and all you bought is taken away. Pirating also can’t be stealing because we aren’t taking something away from someone else, other people are not deprived of the chance to have this just because we downloaded it.
Major reason not to buy ebooks from amazon: you can’t lend, give, exchange, sell them and you may lose all of them if you anger the right people. They are not yours, you are not buying them, you merely paid for conditioned access to them.
This whole thing is especially heartbreaking because at its core, the game is great. Running around and shooting feels better then Halo has in a long time. It was just ruined by corporate fuckery.
In a nutshell: corporate greed. The only part of the game that was live service was the paid cosmetics.
At launch, their entire idea of more ‘content’ was just visual cosmetics. If you look at their communications at the time it will all make sense.
They constantly referred to an internal ‘live service’ team separate from the rest of the game, and that team was effectively the ‘cosmetics team’.
People talk about contractors, but this was the real problem. They thought they could get away with barely adding any real content and selling tons of cosmetics.
I switched to pop os recently and I’m never going back to Windows. It’s easier now than ever to switch to Linux, even for gamers. Steam, proton, and wine have made running your Windows apps and games in Linux so easy. You’d have to have a very specific use case to justify staying with Windows now.
Here’s a fun one: I own two video capture devices, an Elgato HD 60 S and an Avermedia LiveGamer Portable 2. Both do not work in Linux. I found a simple USB HDMI capture device that works in Linux and cost a fraction of what thosmother overhyped ones cost me. It works way better than they ever did. That was one of my last adjustments. I can still stream my Switch and PS5 on Twitch, no problem.
Reminder that Microsoft is trying to shift Windows to be entirely cloud based, so this can easily happen overnight without your consent. You don’t own your OS. Linux is the only way, unless you’re one of those strange BSD folks.
paragraph where I tried to remember the name of dude stopI started writing this comment to ask about a specific itch.io or gamejolt game, but I can’t remember the title, it was a downloadable point and click game similar to There Is No Game, it had a narrator, several trophies that the narrator would give you, (including bad ones for disobeying the narrator) and I think a demo. I remember it being popular around the time of the original There Is No Game and
Ah. I’ve had a lot of fun in Sea of Thieves. It was hella fun on launch, albeit quite unfortunately lacking in content. I’ve heard it’s gotten much better since, basically a different game altogether now.
There’s a lot of content now but I feel it being a bit disconnected from each other as if it was many minigames inside of a pirate game engine (not that this is a bad thing but it never captured me)
Fucking weebs always thinking it’s about them. Never has there been another group of people that mistake references as much as weebs. Throughout the years I’ve seen replies thinking references from The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Halo are actually references to some anime crap, when the things from the anime crap were actually a reference to the originals mentioned.
