As a kid I’d always go to the appliance section at the thrift stores my family would frequent to see if I could forage some batteries left in the products. They are almost always nearly dead, but I’d take 15 minutes of Gameboy time over nothing.
My parents rarely bought me batteries, and when they did they’d buy the big packs of off-brand ones that only lasted an hour anyway, so I had no power more often than not.
A little while after the Gameboy color came out, I was able to get my hands on a rechargeable battery pack, and I remember thinking that was an absolute game changer.
I don’t miss the days of everything running on batteries.
I do. I have rechargeable aa and aaa batteries. When a battery pack goes bad it’s a pita to order/buy/replace. When my rechargeable AAA battery goes bad…“oh, look. I have a dozen more and they were like a buck a piece.”
When I was about 10, my mum was addicted to tetris on the GB. I’d get home from school and literally every battery in the house would be completely dead…
I talked to her about it a few years ago, she told me that for about 5 years after she stopped playing she’d dream about tetris more often than anything else.
Love my 2DS XL. I’m sad that Nintendo totally shelved their mobile line since the switch is portable. Battery life on the DS line is incredible. I still get long hours from my DS Lite
I’m new to the hacked 3ds world and I absolutely love it! The last gameboy I owned was the advanced sp and the 3ds is like a time capsule of the best period of gaming history. I desperately want to start building shell mods fix their wobbly screen though.
I absolutely agree with you about it’s place in gaming history. The wobbly screen definitely takes some getting used to. I’m not exactly sure why they decided to design it that way. I know the DS Lite models were prone to hinge cracking so maybe they left the slack in them to reduce that issue? Either way I sympathize with ya!
I’ll need to crack it open and look at it, but from what I’ve seen I may be able to slot some rubber gaskets into the hinge to hold tension. It will feel more like modern laptop screens that way.
What? Zelda and Mario have coexisted since 1986… The first game for each was only released a year apart (the first Mario game came out in 1985, first Zelda game in 1986). The Mario reference in this is from Super Mario 64, which was released in 1996. I don’t think there’s any specific Zelda game being referenced.
Everything you’ve said barely makes any sense. And there’s no LotR reference, you can’t just say “uuuh, they eat food in this too!!” and say that’s a reference.
The root question of my comment is, why is Zelda’s saying her cake is bad vs Peach’s whose is delicious? I had to assume it’s from some newer iteration of the Zelda franchise that I’m not familiar with since the image of her appears newer than Mario 64. So if someone (me) did play Mario 64 and understood that reference, but doesn’t know the newer Zelda entries then this doesn’t entirely come together for that person (me again).
Then my mind jumped to- assuming that there is some zelda-franchise lore about her making a shitty cake, well, here is another franchise with another female character offering food to a male character with humorous undertones, and that could be used to riff on this meme that OP (or whoever) could make. “Dear Aragorn, Please come to Helm’s Deep. I’ve made a delicious stew for you. Yours truly, Eowyn” etc. Not really a stretch unless you’re artificially limiting yourself to nintendo franchises.
I may have been a bit buzzed when I posted my previous comment but I really don’t think its incoherent enough to be raked over the coals for.
Adding a second image for texture. I’m not sure if links are allowed and don’t want to come across as a self advertiser. I was just so impressed I had to share with someone. This is one handsome 2DS XL!
