Last Epoch. The campaign isn’t anywhere close to as good as Diablo, but the crafting and end game is way, way better. Despite it being in early access, it’s very polished already. I’m having a lot of fun with it. I’m looking forward to 1.0 in December.

Just finished Sea of Stars on PS5, true ending. Loved the way they improved on most aspects of SNES era RPGs , I just wish the story had been as impactful as the awesome gameplay, but I compare everything to Nier Automata so the bar is high.

Picked up Star Ocean First Departure R, and almost immediately regretted it, especially in comparison to Sea of Stars. Wandering aimlessly trying to trigger the next event , talking to every NPC in the village trying to move the plot along with barely a clue on where to go, that old design may have worked in 1996 but it’s just not worth the time anymore.

I think I’ll drop it and maybe try Starfield on the PC, or I’ve got final fantasy stranger of paradise sitting in my unplayed collection.

ioslife,

I didn’t realize Star Ocean was out already. I really liked what I saw from the announcement in the NDirect. Shame to hear it doesn’t fix some of the outdated design of early RPGs. Guess I’ll check out some more reviews.

DarkMetatron, (edited )

I recently played Phantasy Star on the Master System (the original from 1987) and I really loved the game in general, story was fun and the characters (as little as you see from them) were cool. But I have two issues with the game

  1. The huge, multi level first person dungeons without a map and without any landmarks to navigate by.
  2. Hardly any information on what to do next or where to go, just walking over the map until you find, by chance, the correct place or NPC to get further.

Both points made me drop the game about 2/3th in. I don’t have the time for that kind of gameplay, I am not 12 anymore.

So yes, those old game mechanics are problematic. And it’s in so many old JRPGs, Star Ocean, Phantasy Star, the early Final Fantasy games. Really sad.

Doing the second run for Bg3. Prolly going for a third run after this one, the game is full of content and nuances to the story.

Remnant 2

So much cool stuff to do, so many things to try and glorious gunplay. Damn, I fell in love with that game.

I love that game. Last time I played I was finding it tricky to find a game though.

sandflavoured,

Servers are suddenly up again as of last week or so, and are pretty active. Great time to get back in :)

Awesome. I’ll have to check it out.

I liked but also kinda hated bioshock. All of them together. They are good games but all three show their age already.

Horizon was enjoyable enough but it’s the same post apocalyptic plotline I have seen in a few other games and movies, one I could list without having to look up if I knew how to spoiler tag.

GoW is excellent and it’s all about Mimir. I legit want Ragnarok on PC just for more Mimir. Please and thank you. My only gripe with the game is I went to do a bunch of side quests during the chapter where Atreus had his little shit phase and the dialogue became really weird and his attitude kept doing all kinds of flips and shit. My rec is progress main until he gets over himself before any backtracking.

Titanfall no idea, never heard of it.

Space Station 14.

Frontier station gameplay: This game is intentionally complex. Gettimg a space suit on? Don’t forget your oxygen mask. …and helmet. …and to make sure the oxygen’s on. …and that you have grav boots. …and that they’re on.

Grab an ore bag in one hand, pick in the other, and start breaking rocks. If you’re lucky, you can get with a good captain and make some dough.

But honestly, i usually get paid more working as a janitor for the station. Or as a bartender, mixing up various drinks, if it’s a good day and people are tipping well. I’ve been trying to run my own food truck, but it seems mostly what I do is die.

…but, then there’s sitting at the bar after a good run, drinking and playing music. You can join in a midi band, or play your own uploaded song. Dance with people, or drop banana peels and watch ‘em slip. It’s a good tune to be alive.

Regular SS14 play: Or, try to do the above. But the station is faced with some awful inevitable catastrophe. Serve drinks and secretly dose them with hallucinogens, until the zombies come, or terrorists with nukes, or alien artifacts that do… …Things. Or join sec and try to keep the station going by dealing with whatever threats there are (including errant bartenders slipping drugs into peoples’ drinks), or at least evacuate the people. …and anyone could be a bomb-packing terrorist.

Or be a hamster. Or, y’know… Anything you want to.

All amazing. God of War has such a wonderful moving story and great combat. Horizon Zero Dawn is an expansive open world game with also a great story. It also has a lot of additional info in discoverable content, like logs to read and sound clips. So, it depends on how deep you want to dive, but I’d recommend both those games. God of war is more challenging on higher difficulties. I loved them both. Probably Horizon Zero Dawn just a little better than God of War, but then, I loved God of War Ragnarok more than Horizon Forbidden West.

Wow, surprised nobody recommended God of War. It’s by a mile better than any other game in the franchise, won game of the year if memory serves right. And then when you play that one you get to roll into Ragnorok which is arguably even better.

paultimate14,

Do you need to have played the earlier games for it?

I got this with my PS4. I already had the GOW 1&2 collection for PS3, so I figured I’d beat those and maybe get 3 first. But the first game is… rough. I’d say it hasn’t aged well, but honestly I don’t think it holds up to its contemporaries well.

I played it on-and-off for a few years now and finally beat it a couple weeks ago. I’m debating if I even want to bother with the 2nd game now.

wcSyndrome,

It’s not required to play the previous games, there is some reference to them and the emotional impact of one scene may be diminished but that’s about it. I’m sure there are video recaps you can watch if you decide to skip the previous titles

LittleTarsier,

I would say no. The earlier games are very very different types of games. If you played the earlier games, I think you’ll appreciate Kratos’ journey more but it’s not necessary, imo.

TooMuchDog,

Definitely not, I played GoW 2018 first. I loved it so much that I went back and played every other previous GoW before GoW Ragnarok came out. The others are very different (but still very fun) games, and it definitely makes you appreciate Kratos’ story better, but they are by no means essential.

Wermhatswormhat,

Like everyone said, nope not at all. I played a couple of them, but there’s a nifty YouTube video chronicling his journey in Greece!

Just finished playing Dawncraft(a “souls like” Minecraft mod) multiplayer with a friend, and we called it a day after we killed >!notch!< and then got wrecked by >!“divine elementals”!<. Back to Disco Elysium now.

Im_Randy_Butter_Nubs,

I’ve installed this but haven’t touched it yet. It’s meant to be pretty good.
