A fun little 2000 era RTS with customisable mech chassis units/base building/multiple fighting levels per map (separate air/land/underground maps). In hindsight, it has a fiendishly difficult campaign which I remember it being a lot easier than I find it now…
Yes! Great fun game. Crashes for me every so often in Windows now, which is a pain especially for skirmishes because you can’t save. Have installed in Linux now but haven’t tested much - maybe it’ll work better!
I always loved the combot customisation aspect, but it seems my favourite load-out and team has changed since I played so many years ago, back when one borrowed a friend’s CD.
Vangers is a postapocalyptic and fundamentally strange top-down driving/exploration/mystery/action-RPG.
It has a unique back story, hostile worlds and an intriguing and expansive vocabulary that helps tell the story. If you are the type of person that appreciates poetic neologisms because they get your brain going, guessing at the etymology and sucking up the layers of connotation, this is up your alley.
Even if you manage to complete the game, you’ll be left wondering whether what happened was even meant to happen. It’s sort of post modern with deconstructed words, rituals and behaviors all jumbled up and muddled together as a result of a great and important event that once had meaning to creatures that may no longer even exist.
Tabula Rasa. It was a first/third person sci fi mmo shooter/rpg with craftable mechs, It lasted for a bit more then a year before it shut down, and no private servers have ever been created.
Gundam : Universal Century Online. Picture Star Wars Galaxies with combined arms mecha warfare. Start on foot, buy a jetpack, mine some ore, built a tank/jet/mech, fight in the war. It lasted about as long as tabula rasa before it shut down. It currently has no private server.
Firefall. First/third person sci fi mmo shooter/rpg with craftable mech suits. bla blah, shut down no private server ever created.
tl/dr: I want a new mech mmo. Or even just to be able to play my old favorite mecha mmos.
Mercenaries. Made by dice would be killer, would be a great opportunity for them to explore different mechanics and maybe even inspire a better battlefield.
The first game plays so much better than the 2nd! Never finished the 2nd game, now that I think about it.
Another thing that I have a (possibly fake) memory from the 1st game is, near the start, with those carnivorous egg-looking-plants and farting peaches, I remember once managing to get one of those plants to go up right as the peach farted, which triggered a small event and turned the plant into a mini thing-item to collect. Maybe it was only in the demo and scrapped for the full game?
I’m so disappointed to see how successful Gamergate was in poisoning people on games journalism. The reason I know this vitriol isn’t organic is because it far outstrips the stakes.

i want the Just Cause series to continue on from the second installment but instead of focusing on the movement, focus on the world building and setpieces. the plot in JC2 is completely batshit insane and ends in a fistfight atop a speeding ICBM. they kinda just forgot about that part in the sequels in favor of adding tornado guns or whatever.
I was just thinking about Splinter Cell the other day. It’s crazy how every single third person game turned into a “souls-like”. It seems like we used to get such better diversity in game genres.
