NocturnalMorning, do games w Just beat Lies of P and I love it!

I don’t understand the obsession with super difficult games. I can get plenty good at them. But I don’t enjoy getting angry at videogames when I die 14 times fighting a boss.

I’d love to play Lies of P, but no difficulty level means I’m not playing it. I tried Elden Ring as well, and Bloodborne. These kind of games just aren’t for me.

FooBarrington,

The trick is learning not to be angry. It usually takes a while to beat a boss, but from then on it’s suddenly easy (especially on replays), and that feels really, really good.

NocturnalMorning,

I wish I was like that. It might be an adhd thing. I’d love to play some of these games. It’s just not worth my sanity.

FooBarrington,

Definitely not! I used to get pretty angry too, though weirdly Rocket League fixed that for me. It turned my anger at the loss into anger at the pressure of performing in a multiplayer game, which isn’t a factor in Elden Ring.

Dyskolos,

Me too. Would love to play all those, but my tries were just frustrating. And it’s not just difficult enemies. But that artificially inflated difficulty like all enemies reset when i fail.

There’s motivation to beat a tough enemy, and then there’s motivation to beat 30 enemies again for 30mins just because i made a tiny mistake.

Maybe it’s a generational thing. I grew up with very difficult games, i just grew out of it. Newer generations only had these honey-drenched easypeasygames the industry came up with. There really is a hard challenge to beat anymore. Then came fromsoft and reminded me of how nasty games were 😂

@Xylinna@lemmy.world avatar

I felt the same way when Dark Souls (and subsequent sequels) came out. Sekiro was the first game I had ever refunded on Steam when I rage quit it after couldn’t get through the tutorial level. I’ve since tried it again and made it to Genichiro but couldn’t beat him as it doesn’t let you grind to level up. It’s truly a game where you have to “git gud” and I’m simply not that good at parrying.

Honestly the only reason I gave Bloodborne a try was because I saw someone else play who was a much worse gamer than I was, it was included on PS+, and I thought the world seemed really interesting. I absolutely do not think this genre is for everyone but when you can beat a boss, the rush is intense and addictive.

herrvogel,

It’s one of those games that do a magic trick and make time go poof. Very deep, tons of things to do, and extremely moddable with a rich ecosystem. Something you can easily sink hundreds of hours into without even realizing it.

Excellent game overall.

Bratwurstboy, do gaming w Cyberpunk dlc sucks. 10 side missions and like 5 story missions for 30 bucks.

Who asked?

sederx,

Nobody? In just telling people to save their cash.

What’s wrong with you?

madkarlsson,

We get it, you are disappointed. But if you are concerned about saving cash you should’ve probably waited to buy it yourself this close to release.

But it doesn’t objectively suck, it builds on the world, and does so decently. If you liked it before you are probably going to like this DLC.

sederx,

1 didnt buy it

2 i like the base game, this dlc is a joke for this kind of money. this is a 9.99 dlc at best

Bratwurstboy,

What’s wrong with you ? Go enjoy that steam free system of yours. I hope you get over the emotional pain caused by a failed cloud sync.

sederx,

Bratwurstboy,

You’re the one ranting about shit for no reason lmao

sederx,

you dont understand forums do you?

did somebody force you to reply to this post? is somebody forcing you to be a cunt? did somebody force you to check my history and get butthgurt because i dont like the same stuff you do?

no, you took each of those choices and then acted like i took a shit in your porch.

voluntarily seeking things you dont like is a problem you should discuss with a professional.

best of luck, im gonna block you now for your own good.

iforgotmyinstance, do games w What games have you been playing recently

Bloodborne has sucked me back in. Super satisfying gameplay.

I also replayed Re7 and Re8, just fantastic together.

iheartneopets,

I love both of those games so much. RE7 as the spooky RE experience I was too young to have when the first 2 came out, and RE8 as a campy horror movie (that spawned amazing memes on the subreddit before reddit went to shit) that is extremely fun to play. It’s also short enough that you can blast through again and again trying to beat your last time or trying out different guns… Loved it. Though it was cheesey, I did love the Winters’ story by the end—even made me tear up a lil

version_unsorted, do gaming w The gaming industry needs to become more like holywood

Heck yeah, game industry workers are long over due for unionization. CDPR developers just had a headline in the news about unionizing after this latest wave of layoffs.

Callie, (edited )
@Callie@pawb.social avatar

absolutely. Blizzard just had major layoffs to their Esports league, Epic had more than 800 layoffs, Naughty Dog laid off 25 or more developers and Ubisoft let go of 6 more employees after axing 60 earlier this year. and ofc the 9% of layoffs coming from CDPR this year.

The gaming industry absolutely needs union protections to protect their jobs, especially since a job should be steady income, not a volatile workload like developing seems to be in gaming right now. another benefit might be to making big execs actually have reason to listen to workers when it comes to cases of sexual harassment like what we’ve seen at Zenimax and Blizzard

Never buy a AAA game on release. They’re all buggy messes until a year or so in.

Definitely easier said than done, but you’re right - if you’re not enjoying the games, try something new to give them a break.

xyguy, do gaming w Current PC is too bad for Cities Skylines 2. Can anyone judge the PCPartPicker list I've put together?

Looks good. I’d go for 32 gigs of ram though if you can swing it. Also is there any reason why you want a 22" monitor specifically?

The reason this one should last is because ddr5 is new and so is the AM5 socket for AMD. AMD supported the previous socket from 2016-2022 so many are speculating that you should be able to do CPU upgrades for the foreseeable future without having to change the whole platform.

Suck_on_my_Presence,

2x22" is what I have already and it fits my desk well and it’s not too much, if that makes any sense. I’m going to also look at an ultrawide physically over the weekend and see how it feels, but i like to snap windows to the sides of the screens and I don’t know enough about ultrawides to know if you can do that easily, haha

Franzia,

Ultrawide monitors often come with extra software to help you enjoy it more like built in KVM functionalities. There’s also window snapping managers on Windows like WiLMa. I’m similar to you though, 2x24" mounted to the wall.

irasponsible,

If you’re using Windows, then get PowerToys, it has FancyZones for customisable window snapping. The closest thing I’ve found on Linux is gTile.

docRekd,

@irasponsible @Suck_on_my_Presence also has a similar functionality built in

Suck_on_my_Presence,

I’ve pulled out an old laptop to try Linux Mint because I’m really over Windows’ whole thing and I just need to get my hands on mint before I fully commit. But thanks for the shoutout!

xyguy,

I can personally guarantee you how nice ultrawide is and beats 2 small monitors every day. I have had one for 6 years and can’t go back. Windows makes it easy to snap left and right.

I use a program called PowerToys FancyZones to divide my ultrawide monitor into 3 equal sections that I can snap to as well. I suggest checking that one out no matter what you end up going with

PrivateNoob, do gaming w Current PC is too bad for Cities Skylines 2. Can anyone judge the PCPartPicker list I've put together?

Looks cool to me, if you’re not planning to upgrade to more power hungry components. Actually I bought a new PC too in early summer partly for C:S 2 too, and your specs are pretty similar, although you should consider some things.

1.: Assuming that you will utilize a lot of mods and custom assets, a 32 GB RAM should be needed

2.: Since C:S 2 is finally multithreaded, you could also check out Intel (if you don’t care about consumption), since theoretically it offers better multithreaded performance.

(Gonna post my build in the morning)

4am,

Is Intel still on top? I thought AMD had swept away multi core since Zen 2 and recently has beat equivalent Intel CPUs in single-core as well?

GrindingGears,

It’s all just a giant pissing contest at this point. Both are good. I prefer AMD, but Intel builds are cool too.

PrivateNoob,

Not really tbh, but Intel has adopted the little.BIG architecture which means those CPUs are have high and low performance cores, just like in the ARM/mobile CPUs. Currently these low perf cores aren’t detected correctly in Windows, and as a result it actually worsens gaming performance, but I assume this will be corrected? In synthetic/theory 13600K is better at multithreaded (cpubenchmark.net/…/AMD-Ryzen-5-7600-vs-Intel-i5-1…).

This is my build:

https://sopuli.xyz/pictrs/image/ba50e8f8-2ff0-4dd1-862f-3bbc3dd2d954.png

plotwatcher,

The E-cores (on existing Intel chips) aren’t going to help with gaming ever, there’s just too much latency communicating between them and the P-cores. That said, performance is similar to AMD with Raptor Lake often slightly edging out Zen 4, albeit at higher power usage, but this can vary game to game. Until Cities Skylines releases and we have third party benchmarks, it’s hard to say which will be better, but they should be close either way. Raptor Lake refresh is also about to release which will probably add another 5-10% single threaded and a bit more multithreaded performance.

I don’t know where you got the idea that they aren’t detected correctly. Intel and Microsoft worked together on the thread director for Windows 11. There were some teething issues in some games and apps early on but it’s been 3 years and most of the biggest issues were fixed in the first few months. They even work decently well on Windows 10 (I have a 12600k on 10). You can also disable them if you run into any issues.

bermuda, do gaming w What's the most surprising facts about a game you've gleaned by reading a game's achievement/trophy acquisition percentage?
  • Half Life 2: Despite Zombie Chopper only having 6.9% of steam players actually get it, including myself, it’s arguably the more famous of the Half Life 2 achievements.
  • Please, Don’t Touch Anything is a puzzle game where the player is presented with an empty room and a button, and pressing it unlocks more knobs and switches and levers that they have to figure out how to press to unlock endings. When it comes to the achievement for simply pressing the button, only 96.6% of all players have gotten it. That means a shocking 3.4% looked at the button and decided to just not press it and then didn’t continue playing the game.
  • The Talos Principle: About 20% of players have gotten the achievement for getting the “canon” ending of the game, but only 6.1% of players got the achievement for going up to where the canon ending takes place, changing their mind, and walking back down.
  • Myst (2021): In the 2021 remake a shocking 32% of players made it through Selenitic, but only 4.6% got the “Never Lost” achievement. This is a bit of a big leap in logic, I’ll admit, but I’m willing to bet that means only 4% of players actually know how to solve the mazerunner puzzle. It’s a puzzle you must solve to complete Selenitic. Without going into it too much, you control a train going through a maze of rails and at each junction you can spin to go to a set of different rails. Each cardinal direction corresponds to a series of 4 sounds you were supposed to have memorized from the previous age (level), the Mechanical age. If 2 sounds happen, then you have to go in the direction between those sounds. If you play the game in the non-randomized state then you can just look up a walkthrough of this puzzle, which is what most people did in the 90s and what most people still do because guaranteeing good sound quality for everyone is still difficult. Most new players might even play with the sound off just because they don’t know about this.
sadbehr, do gaming w What's the most surprising facts about a game you've gleaned by reading a game's achievement/trophy acquisition percentage?
@sadbehr@lemmy.nz avatar

Path of Exile on PS5 (I don’t have access to PC/xbox).

According to the trophies, only 8.8% of players complete Part 1, with 4.4% completing Part 2. For context, Part 1 would take a new player maybe 20 hours, with Part 2 being a tiny bit shorter. Imo the most likely reason for this is new players bricking their characters. PoE is extremely complicated and if you don’t know what you’re doing you’ll build and gear your toon so wrong that you’ll get to a point where you can’t progress and you don’t have any way of fixing it.

2.3% of players reach level 80, with 0.9% reaching level 90. Context: After completing the campaign you’ll be around level 70, getting to 80 isn’t difficult, long or hard. Level 90 requires a slight investment of time and effort.

If you’ve never played PoE before these stats might seem low, but for people that have played it I’m sure it makes a lot of sense! It does to me anyway.

Ahh… I remember simpler times when we had proper handheld devices… and not having to deal with ads bullshit (shovelware was a thing though).

Perhaps the Nintendo Switch might be a good option down the road?

If not I agree about Chinese handhelds, there are so many out there and they keep improving over time.

sylverstream,

Yeah was thinking about a switch, but I’m a bit reluctant due to high cost of games. They mainly use the tablet to game while traveling, at home they play with their toys or on the xbox.

theterrasque,

Maybe steam deck could be an alternative? Hardware itself is more expensive, but there’s so much good cheap or even free games.

I think the category you’re looking for is premium games. On mobile it appears to mean that the game is complete and not sold in pieces.
