I stopped playing due to all their stupid additions all the time. Like the sailing/whatever skills they want to add, it’s all bullshit and copium by and for adults wanting new stuff. Their “democratic” voting is an absolute joke; “oh it didn’t pass? let’s just poll it again with slight changes”. That’s a cheap and dirty way of pushing their own agenda.
I did the maths some time ago, a subscription to 1 Runescape character is 20 times more expensive than a WoW character.
does them adding new content somehow detract from your ability to do whatever it was you liked to do before said content was added?

There’s this open-source, Diablo-like game/engine, called FLARE, which I find interesting in that regard, because the basic gameplay is there. My monkey brain is having fun with it, i.e. getting an endorphine rush, because big numbers go brr.
But they obviously don’t have the budget of Blizzard, to try to hide that that’s what it’s doing.
I think, around 4 times throughout the campaign, you get the same spider model, but this time it’s five levels stronger than last time. 🙃
If you don’t mind gacha games, I’ve been enjoying Honkai: Star Rail. The battles are turn based, some of the puzzles and events are a bit reaction time dependent, but not difficult generally.
HoMM is a turn-based strategy game, not RPG (with the notable exception of HoMM IV where you had real hero development). That said, there was a genre of RPG’s, which used to be very popular in the 80s and 90s, and which all but disappeared. Those were party-based first-person RPG’s with turn based (or close to it) combat. Popularized by Wizardry, and followed by Might and Magic, they inspired other series like the Ishar Trilogy. Other games employed real-time combat, but slow enough or pausable, to mimic turn-based. Popular series were Eye of the Beholder, Lands of Lore, Dungeon Master, and others. Nowadays, I occasionally see one of these games from independent projects, but it seems that the golden age of this sub-genre has passed.

I fell off from the game for a number of reasons back when deimos was released. I went back to it to catch up on quests and a lot of original gripes of why I left in the first place were still firmly in place.
A really cool Shmup, it’s hype as fuck, the OST it’s a banger, the scoring system is pretty straight forward but with enough dept and is approachable for new player to the genre!
If you’re tired of your million-hour games where the gameplay is just walking forward, a shmup that’s just condensed gameplay can be your oasis in gaming.
Cult of the Lamb - Got this for my birthday from my buddy and it's been very solid. I see why the reviews hype this game up; it's a weird rpg with base building elements and that's right up my alley. I've been playing it on the steam deck with a conservative power profile and it's been a lot of fun.
Tactics Ogre Reborn - I'm a FF Tactics fan and I was told this game would scratch the itch. So far I can say it's at got a captivating story. It's great that my choices matter in this game and that character development is based on those choices. The gameplay is familiar and fluid. The AI also seems to scale well with the difficulty setting. I'd say fans of FF Tactics should definitely pick this up.
I think playing with them can be fun. And done right they usually have some counter. For example, foot archers being able to fire further than the horse archers so ample enough of foot archers should be able to cause them problems.
Finished Limbo after it was sitting in my library for years and it was really emjoyable. I did not expect to like it as much as I did but the puzzles were all completely doable (

Also played through Mouthwashing and was pleasantly disturbed. The lasst 20 minutes get a bit long in the teeth but overall a great experience.
Darkwood and Disco Elysium, as games recommended by friends. Darkwood scares the crap out of me, maybe because I’m more alert to sounds in general. Disco Elysium is very interesting, but a tad slow, and not as engaging as other games.
Most of ny playtime now is Dark Souls 3. I only played 1 and 2 before, and this is about what I expected, more, slightly better and different Dark Souls. I’ll probably replay it more than DS 2, but that depends, because I might prefer 2’s less linear progression.
Also, still grinding supports I want to see (which is a lot) in Fire Emblem Revelations on bus rides.
Working on a last hurrah for Diablo 4: Season 5, just finishing up max leveling glyphs for my Scorcerer before I completely set it aside for next season.
Right when I was getting bored playing Sims 3 in my current save, my eldest... disappears. I mean, I saw her die, the Grim Reaper showed up and got her, but that means nothing to this buggy mess of a game. She left no tombstone or anything. So, my current save now is now at four generations, due to an adoption. But, I'm at a point where I want to play other stuff, so this game's going back on the shelf for a while until I need another reset.
Finished Amnesia: The Bunker and managed to get a couple achievements out of it. I might do some serious achievement hunting, but I also kind of want to play a new game, so we'll see how this week goes.
