trustnoone, do gaming w I watched 2 hours of starfield gameplay and an hour of review

Eh, for me, it has story and apparently I can romance people and shoot stuff. So it’s already up there for me. But can totally see how people will feel different. Especially if you felt any hype for this. Me however has had no hype for Bethesda games after fallout 76

What kind of firewall do you have? (Not on the VM, though something similar might work there also)

I use OPNSense and have an allow rule for the specific IP and port my VPN uses from that VM’s IP. Then a block everything from the VM IP after the allow.

I can connect to the VPN no problem, updates and everything work through the VPN. When it goes down it trys to connect normally and fails.

DNS can be a problem when trying to connect to the VPN so make sure to use the IP

RxBrad, (edited ) do gaming w What games have you played due to FOMO?
@RxBrad@lemmings.world avatar

I bought every FromSoft game up to DS3 during various sales because I’d heard unanimously how amazing they were.

Then I eventually played Bloodborne. Haaaaaated it. Never touched any of the other games I bought, and never plan to.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

For what it's worth, I'd say Bloodborne is like Dark Souls but with less variety. There are a bunch of play styles you can utilize in Dark Souls and Elden Ring, but Bloodborne really only lets you use one.

deksesuma,

What did you hate about it? That series is great for the people it clicks with and fans are very vocal about it, so I totally understand.

I went the opposite direction in that it took Bloodborne for the series to click with me. The other games (this was pre DS3) didn’t resonate until after Bloodborne.

RxBrad,
@RxBrad@lemmings.world avatar

I guess I sucked at it. I played for 10-12 hours and didn’t beat a single boss. Graveyard Werewolf Dude and Weird Bridge Monster would just wreck me on the rare occasion I could actually make it to them.

After giving up, I learned online that shooting your gun is not actually a range weapon, but it’s meant to parry. Stuff like that – unintuitive mechanics you’d only know about if you were nuts-deep in “the community” – I have little patience for.

And mostly, I’m not playing videogames to prove myself to anyone. I want to have fun – not torture myself.

deksesuma,

All fair criticisms. It’s not for everyone.

I don’t understand why people like Animal Crossing so much as it seems very dull to me, but I can’t hate on anyone for liking it either.

The variety is what makes gaming great.

Cethin,

One thing to know about FromSoft games if you ever try again is they really want you to pay attention. They don’t baby you with telling you what to do, but there are hints all around. For the bird on the bridge you can use fire for a ton of damage (molotovs are dropped by enemies in the area). I’m pretty sure item descriptions tell you, but also it tells you in the environment. In the street going towards that bridge there’s a beast tied to a post that’s being burned, for example.

The games really aren’t that hard (except Sekiro), but they do ask you to participate. You have a lot of options to make them easier though, like using their weaknesses that are normally told to you, or summoning other players, or leveling up, or many other tools.

gaael, do gaming w What games have you played due to FOMO?

Yeah, I’ve got the same thing with playing previous games in the series. This summer I’ve tried playing BG1 and then BG2 prior to BG3’s release - and I did not go very far (did not like the UI).

sub_, do piracy w Anime/Manga Content ( Spanish)

There’s a site called mangadex that has scanlations translated in many different languages, you can use the filter on advanced search to narrow it down to manga translated to Spanish (ES) or Spanish (Latam)

It’s also quite a good way to learn foreign languages (open up chapters translated to English and other foreign languages and read them like a polyglot book)

ryper, do piracy w How to transfer a save file between pirated game versions.

If you’re playing on Windows, the saves are under your user profile so you shouldn’t need to do anything.

Schmeckinger,

Creating a backup never hurts tho.

7Sea_Sailor,

This is only true sometimes. Some crackers will change the save location for some games, and the location where the save will be stored is entirely dependant on how the cracker has removed or emulated the DRM. I’ve also had the pleasure of the crack-save not being compatible with the genuine-save, meaning I couldn’t transfer my savedata after purchasing a game. Though I don’t know how frequent that is.

I don’t know how it works for this particular Cyberpunk crack.

splendoruranium,

I don’t know how it works for this particular Cyberpunk crack.

Why would there need to be a crack in the first place? Cyberpunk is released DRM-free, isn’t it?

7Sea_Sailor,

Yes and no. If you get the DRM-free GOG release directly, you would not have this problem. Since this person stated they used the DODI repack, they’re now dependant on which release DODI used for his repack, since it may well be a Steam or Epic Games release.

I quickly looked it up, and the repack is based on the InsaneRamZes release, which in turn is based on either GOG or EGS, depending on which forum post you go by. So I’m not 100 % sure what’s actually being used here. According to the PCGamingWiki, there’s no difference in save location between the different stores, so best case scenario, OP can simply update the game to V2 and everything should be picked up.

It’s OK but nothing spectacular. The further you get into it, the more repetitive the missions get though.

On top of the other comments, your private tracker will have a tutorial/rulebook on exactly how new content should be labelled. It's worth checking that out before you start experimenting with encoding quality options.

I use proton with a decent amount of success, although I have had trouble with connectibility.

meiko60,
@meiko60@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

do you find the protonvpn server is quite unstable?

pbjamm,
@pbjamm@beehaw.org avatar

The speed can fluctuate as users pop on and off a server, but in general I have gotten excellent speeds (100mbps+). If ever I am getting poor throughput I swap to a different random server until I get what I need. I do not torrent with it though so I am not sure how it fares with that use.

retrieval4558,

I have not. Especially with the desktop client, which automatically will switch to another server if you get dropped. As far as speeds, I’ve also never noticed a problem but my bottleneck is my ISP so it’s hard to know.

Reverse Image search.

Scrollone,

It’s been quite limited by Google recently, because Gettyimages and similar services got angry.

TinEye and Yandex reverse image search work a bit better.
