just beat a difficult game about climbing and i loved it! it’s the only other game in the genre that has risen to the heights of getting over it in terms of gameplay mechanics and level design.

if anyone reading this knows about a community for these types of games (foddian? getting over it-likes?), please send it my way. i love these games to bits and have so much to say about them but to my knowledge basically no one cares about these games outside of watching people on twitch get angry at them.

looking forward to playing return of the obra dinn, then i’ll probably start speedrunning the climbing game until baby steps releases lol

I'm kind of in a gaming slump right now and nothing has really grabbed me for a couple of weeks.

I'm still doing runs in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, which is fun for the most part.

Then I think I finished the campaign in Kingdom Rush, a Tower-Defense game, which unlocked a bunch of super hard bonus levels, but I guess you're supposed to clear all the challenge modes for the regular levels before that, for upgrades, but I'm not really interested in that at all.

I also tried getting back into Dyson Sphere Program, Last Epoch, and Satisfactory, but nothing really stuck.

A few days ago I started Solasta: Crown of the Magister, and played through the tutorial, but still need to start it properly, but who knows if I'll do it.

I tried to buy physical PC games as recently as 2014, and what i got was a steam code and and 8 DVD’s, and the game still needed a patch to work. So Physical on PC games to me is DRM free. I can put it on my own thumbdrive/USB to make it physical if I wanted it to be.

As for my preference. It depends on the game and deal. If I know I want the game, and I’ll buy it no matter what, then I’ll aim for the DRM Free copy.

Otherwise it depends on the sale. I mean for $3 I don’t mind loosing access to SimCity 3000, $3 is a good price even for limited access. Let alone free.

What I refuse to buy is a offline game like GTA 5 that requires a proprietary launcher and account to even play. Here I will just abandon PC gaming entirely and go to consoles. Rock Star, Ubisoft, EA games in particular I primarily buy on consoles.

aaaaaaaa Persona 3’s remake finally came out!!

I was a little too young to be playing the game when it first came out, but it really left a mark on me and I’ve always wanted Atlus to update the game. I started with FES on the playstation 2. and when I tell you I was so excited for Persona 4 that I called every video game retail store in the city until they said they had a copy and immediately went and bought it, I’m not lying.

so far really loving the remake! I’ve been busy with another hobby so I haven’t gotten to finish it. the voice acting is great (Akihiko is really the voice I felt strongly about out of the entire cast that I liked, and I know the voice actor from work in Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, and of course he knocked it out of the park. so did Allegra Clark, as my favorite character in the game, Mitsuru) and while I know reviewers complained about Tartarus being copy paste environments with the same enemies over and over, it really hit good for me and brought back memories.

other than that, playing Honkai: Star Rail (taking a long break from Genshin, because I’m really frustrated with how it’s being handled overall) and trying to pace myself with the content since Sparkle’s banner is going to last for another ten years. I’m so excited for Acheron (also voiced by Allegra Clark!) that I’ve prefarmed almost everything for her, short of her relics. there’s a reason my Discord status is “I love you in every universe” with a Raiden Ei emoji, hahaha.

I find it unfortunate it’s not on PC. But that developer seems to not like PC’s.

Depends on the system’s media for me.

Cartridge-based? Physical for all 1st and 2nd party titles, digital for indie/3rd party unless I really enjoyed it or it had a worthwhile collectors edition. I’d say about an 80-20 split due to some games not releasing physical, and some that do but I also get digital for convenience.

Disc based? Probably just digital these days. Exceptions for worthwhile collectors editions and special runs (indie games etc.) Roughly 10-90 split because PC/steam is in this list and despite owning a launch day disc model PS5, I just ordered my first physical copy of a game (Baulder’s Gate 3 collectors) and the other collectors edition I bought was God of War Ragnarok which came with everything except a game disc (steel game case, digital code… sigh).

I think the last console game I bought was Metroid Dread, but I leaned physical for those as well, because their digital storefronts are a single point of failure. I've witnessed first hand a friend of mine getting frustrated with a now-sunset Xbox 360 store, a problem I could see coming a mile away even when I was in high school when the console launched. On PC, if Steam disappeared tomorrow, I could pirate my entire library. If GOG gives me a week of lead time on their store going away, I could legitimately back up those games.

Digital is more convenient. I have shelves of old games and consoles that I'm working on culling rather than expanding, especially as someone who tends to move to a new apartment every couple of years. Physical often tends to be a false sense of security in the modern age of day 1 patches and other kinds of server dependency. DRM-free is actually what you want, unless you really, really enjoy the tangible aspect of the game. Outside of nostalgia, I don't think it matters to me.

Caliper, do gaming w Let's discuss the 3ds family?

Bought a New 2DS XL for my oldest son when he turned 9. Bought a second one for myself not long after. They were cheap secondhand, so it was a quick decision. I love the games and I used to play on my commute. Now it is mostly played on by my youngest. We’ve got a shit load of games, most also bought secondhand. And they still play on them anytime we go for a long drive! It is definitely the best system I’ve owned. Massive bang for buck.

sleepybisexual,

Yea, the ds family is good

Apparently they also hackable :3
